  1. I hadn't seen this guy since high school, but the thing that got to me was that he was exactly where I would have been on my way home at about exactly the same time, if I hadn't taken a detour to the local Harley shop. I knew him when we were kids, and he came to the house to look at a bike we had for sale a couple of years ago. I was at work at the time, but my wife talked to him and let him ride the bike. The road he was on is always slow moving due to traffic. Especially at that time of day. It can happen any time. Be careful out there. It was a red Harley, and my wife got a couple of calls from her daughter and a friend asking if she had talked to me that evening (Tuesday) so she called me to make sure it wasn't me. http://www.wbir.com/news/local/story.aspx?storyid=131720&odyssey=mod_mostread
  2. I'll probably need some help. I don't even know how to change the oil in this thing yet.
  3. I come from a poor background, and have struggled to get by at times. At one time, the only thing I owned was a junky old S-10 pick-up truck and was trying to raise 2 kids. During that time, I never took money from anyone and I never lied to people to try to get ahead. I say all that just to say that in my mind, being in a bind is no excuse for taking money from someone and not doing what you say you're going to do with it.
  4. I was 15 and didn't have the money to fix the rear brakes on my Kawasaki 90, so I would stop it by down shifting to 1st and popping the clutch. The back tire would slide me to a stop. WAIT, that's not the dumb part! The girl who lived across the street from me had invited the whole cheerleader squad over to practice in her front yard. I came home on the bike, turn into the driveway and pop a wheelie. I ride the wheelie almost to the end of the driveway, bring the front wheel down and down shift to first to stop, problem was I down shifted to neutral instead of first. I pop the clutch and it felt like I sped up instead of stopping. I rolled through my parents carport, into the utility room and stop when I hit the washing machine. The cap on the gas tank catches me by the genitals and my nose on the window sill above the washing machine. I was so embarrassed, I opened the window and climbed through it into the back yard and laid in the grass until I could walk again.
  5. Clutch basket.
  6. My last 2 bikes were black. That was the one requirement I had. My next one would be anything but black. This thing is smoother than the RSTD. Karen even said so. It does shake like crazy at the lights. We try to avoid riding where there are red lights It rides real nice, but it doesn't have a cassette player
  7. I thought I'd show you guys my new ride. It's not a Yamaha, but it's still a bike and it's still fun to ride. Okay I should have sucked my gut in a little...
  8. I got 12,000 out of my rear. Still running the front.
  9. Ok, you had told us before what a smooth talker he was. I thought maybe he sold you on another fairy tale.
  10. So you still haven't received anything from him, except a promise? Just wondering...
  11. I've never ridden one, but I still love 'em. If I could have found a low mileage interstate, before I found the Ultra I would probably be riding one. I don't know why they quit making them. Congrats on the new ride!
  12. When I "pick" something, it's usually picked for $80. Price to repair $200. Value after repairs $175. You can do the math.
  13. I can tell that my front tire is a little out of round, but only when pulling up to a stop moving very slow. It doesn't bother me, so I never jacked it up to check it. It's a Dunlop E-3 also.
  14. I checked with them a year ago, and they didn't make one for the TD at the time.
  15. ut vols
  16. My '05 RSTD must be different. It is an allen bolt and screws into a rubber "wellnut". If it doesn't unscrew then the wellnut must be turning. You might try pulling out a little on it while you turn it. Just enough to cause some friction between the wellnut and the fairing.
  17. I bought a motorcycle the other day. I had the money in my savings, so I transfered the money to checking while standing in the guy's driveway, and wrote him a check. I know I could have waited until I got home, but it's nice to be able to look right then and verify how much is in your account, no matter where you are.
  18. I did a test ride a couple of months ago and came to basically the same conclusions you did. The things that impressed me about it were the smooth ride and the brakes, and the low speed handling. I ended up buying an Ultra Classic, just because I wanted a bike with a trunk and the radio fairing and I found one close by. After you get used to how to ride it, it's really pretty strong. You don't have to keep it revved up like the V-4 and you can pretty much shift into 2nd as soon as you start rolling, but when you hit 2nd and roll on the throttle it comes on strong. I still wish it was water cooled, and hate the way the Harley riders at work are all of a sudden buddies with me, but otherwise I like it.
  19. I always use Firefox or Chrome with no problemo..
  20. I don't know if that's a convertible, or a motorcycle, but it's cool
  21. The cop was totally in the wrong. He should know the law and the consequences of impaired driving better than someone not in law enforcement. This makes it obvious that he just didn't care. His department is in the wrong for not taking action prior to this happening. With his record, it should have been apparent that he is a problem behind the wheel. They are also slow about prosecuting him, which is an insult to the public they're paid to protect.
  22. I've got a pair of RSTD bars, and I live in TN.. How far are you from Knoxville?
  23. My daughter used to do everything with me. She'd look at me like I was her hero, now she looks at me like I'm a senile old fart, and I'm just 53.
  24. The number is... 53
  25. I think they should have left the Led Zeppelin song all Led, but it was a good video.
