  1. My front brakes sound awful. Almost like a grinding noise. I took it apart and the pads had plenty of wear left, so I put 'em back in. I don't know what causes it.
  2. I would like to try a set of quieter mufflers on my '05 RSTD. If anyone has a set of stock or maybe a set of Road king mufflers laying around that you trip over every time you walk through the garage, I might buy them from you just to help you get rid of them.
  3. Well, I don't understand it but on the way home from work yesterday I didn't notice the vibration. When I got home my new air filters were on the porch where the UPS man had left them. I changed them out and put on my newly reworked seat which I also got on UPS from Rick. I went for about a 20 mile ride and I'm in love again. I don't know what I did, but the vibration is gone. I would say it was the air filters, but I noticed it gone before I changed them.
  4. I really like the looks of the Strat Deluxe.
  5. I just live a few miles from the Dragon (Knoxville). My wife Karen and I would like to meet up with you all that weekend if everything works out.
  6. I'm confused where do you go, and what do you do after you click on the link???
  7. Welcome Alan, We have something in common, I was a truck driver when I was younger, and my Dad before me, and his Dad too. I remember when I was little we went with my Mom to take Dad to his truck, he had it parked on top of a hill at a small truck stop on the side of Clinton hwy. He got out of the car and took his suitcase to the truck and started the truck to let it warm up, then came back to kiss our Mom goodbye. While they were saying their goodbyes the tractor/trailer started rolling and he had to run it down, jump in and stop it. This was probably 45 years ago, before they had spring brakes like they do now.
  8. I have tried and tried to shift with my heel, but it feels very awkward. I cannot do it. I'd like to get rid of mine too, but not $100 worth.
  9. Every RSTD or Venture I've ridden or ridden with had the rumble you're describing. That's a total of 5 different bikes. It's more noticeable with loud pipes of course. I don't think you have anything to worry about.
  10. I'm very thankful you're well enough to come here and share it with us. It never hurts to have a reminder of how quick these things happen. Just the other day I was daydreaming and looking off somewhere and the cars in front of me came to an abrupt stop. I just barely stopped in time.
  11. If I had my gloves for "many years" I wouldn't expect them to replace them either, but they were brand new out of the box and they wouldn't even check them out.
  12. How do you check the coils?
  13. Just as a warning, if you go with Gerbing ask before hand what their policy is if you have a problem and make a note of who you talk to. I spent over $200 dollars for a pair of gloves and had a problem that I never got resolved. You can click on the link in my signature line to read the details. I'll just say I was very unhappy with their service after the sale.
  14. I ordered a set of K & N air cleaner elements. I don't know what it would have to do with causing a vibration, but I'm sure it won't hurt anything to try them.
  15. That's a good question. I don't know, truth is I don't think I trust dealerships enough to work on it. I haven't seen many of this kind of bike in the area, and I would want someone who has worked on this particular engine enough to know a little about it before I would trust mine to them. That's the reason I posted it here. I know there are thousands of people here withis engine, and I'm sure I'm not the only one here who's had this problem.
  16. Well you could look at it like you just did it on purpose to flush out your crank case real well. Of course if it had been me, I would have burned myself real good and saved the $60. Then have to go to the doctor for burns, and that would cost a couple of thousand.
  17. Do you all think I could take it to a dealer and get it fixed without having to pawn my wife and the dog?
  18. It's not the road or the forks. I can pull in the clutch lever and it's smooth as glass.
  19. I changed the plugs, I bought my own carb sync tool and have checked it a few times. They are still in sync. I changed the oil, I have new tires, and have checked for anything loose on the bike. I also spayed a mist of water on the header pipes after I had ridden a few miles to see if all 4 were hot. I got steam at all 4.
  20. No, it's not a whine, it's a vibration. I am familiar with the whine. I test road a couple of RSTDs before I found one without the whine. This is a vibration you can feel in the bars and the floorboards.
  21. I've never overdrawn. I always keep enough cushion in there to cover it. I'm not going to pay a bank $30 when I need it worse than they do.
  22. The vibration I'm experiencing is not on acceleration, it's a high frequency vibration at cruising speed. Kind of a buzzy feeling.
  23. Ok I thought I could fix it myself, so I kept putting off asking here. I've developed a vibration in my '05 RSTD. I can feel it in the grips, the tank and the floorboards. I asked for help syncing the carbs and was helped by Ken (slick97spirit). He was nice enough to do it for me and show me how to do it. It seemed better for a few days, and the got worse again. I bought my own carb sync tool and have checked it a few times. They are still in sync. I changed the oil, I have new tires, changed the plugs, and have checked for anything loose on the bike. It definitely feels like it's in the engine, and only does it a certain RPMs for instance in 3rd at about 40 to 55 MPH. I have also ran some Sea Foam through it a time or two. It only has about 10K on it and at this point I'm ready for any suggestions I can get. I'm not a mechanic, but I can do whatever needs to be done. I am back riding after a 20 year hiatus, and I'm probably overlooking something simple. TIA, Jim
  24. That's impressive!
  25. What everyone else said. I will add that if they offer rider safety courses in your area, they are a good investment. They make you realize that you can handle a heavy bike in tight situations. With that said, changing to Dunlop E3s really made a difference in high speed handling on my bike.
