Whinning Sound Downshifting
Highway Star replied to Highway Star's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Spent yesterday afternoon removing the rear tire and greasing everything with Moly...still the noise when throttle closed. Performance not affected however...I will just enjoy the ride and turn up the tunes for now!!! -

Whinning Sound Downshifting

Hello again, I do not know the condition of the rear splines or the maintanence on them. The sound only occurs when in gear rolling with no throttle. The faster the speed the louder the sound seems to be. Please reply! I am not a mechanic at all, but want to take care of this if needed.(without a trip to the dealer if possible!) Highway Star -

Thanks Guys!! Like I said I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something... -
Hi! I know this has come up several times here...but I just wanted to clarify. My 2000 RSV makes a loud Whining sound but only when throttle is closed...that is once i give it gas or steady gas the noise goes away. Is this the sound I hear so much about that is inherent in the machines or should I be concerned? Thanks in advance for your responses, Highway Star

Thanks!!!!! Not much of a "Tour'er" per say, 'cause of young children still at home...But can't pass up any thing FREE!!!! -
I still prefer my 2000 RSV! You can't get any better looking and low maintenance than this!!

New looking for direction on pipes
Highway Star replied to Billie's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have a set of Road kings and they provide a great low, Rumble. Especially since I also punched out the baffles in them. Previous to this mod I rolled with the original pipes with the rear baffles drilled out with four 1/2 inch holes. This procedure is somewhat described on the "other site" except that I did not removed the rear cone...I simply drilled through it. I really like the sound of these but my wife did not! I actually have these on E-Bay...Best of luck! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=010&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&viewitem=&item=200252682042&rd=1 -
Saddlebag Quick Removal Bolt Set
Highway Star replied to Highway Star's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The caps fit onto socket head bolts and our RSV are rounded...the total cost for me was about twelve dollars and took about 5 min to put the caps on. -
I found this tip on the Venturers site...ordered the caps from Reidsupply and aquired the bolts from local Sears hardware...works great!! Inexspensive alternative to more exspensive mod seen on e-bay and other sites... You can easily make your own quick removal bolt set for your saddlebags. No tools needed to remove the bags for service or cleaning. Parts needed for 1-bike are 6 ea. M6X36 and 2 ea. M6X55 socket head cap screws with 1.0 thread pitch. The t-cap heads can be ordered from Reidsupply.com and the item number is SLK-1200. If you want to see the screws the item # are brb-532086p and brb-532094p and there is a limit of 100 each on the bolts, but not on the plastic T-heads. I was able to find my cap screws locally and I didn't have to buy more then I needed. Check with your local hardware store, Lowe's or Home Depot. Just press the T-Caps onto the bolt heads in a vice or small press. I used a drill press to push them in. Also thanks go to Gunny (Butch) for his help to me......Ken http://venturers.org/Tech_Library/attachments/Bolts&Caps1.jpg http://venturers.org/Tech_Library/attachments/DrillPress.jpg http://venturers.org/Tech_Library/attachments/Bolts&Caps3.jpg I used a large C-clamp to press the caps on the bolts...works well...I hope that this helps someone!
