  1. I really hope you get a good report. Prayers in for you.
  2. It appears his hand was in his lap till he turned trying to look behind him...twisted a little to his right to look... causing his hand to move up toward the top of his thigh. Something anyone here could easily do without realizing it. Certinally not an agressive behavoir.
  3. No problem...it is really nothing to it. While you are in there...why don't you get some of that dielectric grease and dab some on all those connectors and plugs in there. And you could take some tyraps and secure all that wire so it don't bounce around and get in your way going back togehter with it. Look nicer also. I blew a fuse on my running lights up in the Tenn mountians once...I split the faring in the parking lot of a hotel cause I suspected the wires were pinched in the driving light bracket. The guys with me were amazed how quickly I got it back together, actually but the time they got one beer drank. Problem was a shorted diode under the seat I had installed to prevent some LED's from leaking into the brake circuit.
  4. Should be nothing to it... Easy as pie...you can do all that in less than 1 hour and be back on the road.

    ABS mandatory?

Yep...I have never understood how by simply getting elected to office you become the smartest people in the world. They do not take into those unintential consequenses that cause other problems that are worst than the problems they were trying to fix.
  6. I deleted what I was going to write here 3 times...for the reasons it may have been to political... I just wish I could have stubled apon them ripping up that flag. I just hope they get what they deserve for doing that.
  7. http://www.jakewilson.com Has a pretty good deal right now... Front 150/80H-16 (71H) Avon Venom AM41 125.99 Rear 150/90HB-15 (80H) Avon Venom AM42 $125.99 Plus you get the $25 rebate per tire... AND FREE SHIPPING. I just bought a set for the VStar Custom that my son rides.
  8. Yes a midnight RSV looks a lot better without the chrome pieces on the faring. I agree...it is a job to remove the left over adhesive. I found 3M makes an Adhesive Remover that did wonders helping removing all that sticky stuff. It is not suppose to hurt your paint and did not bother mine. They sell it at the NAPA store here. White can with Red on it.
  9. For 2 up touring... Probably a... 1. Stratoliner Deluxe and add a top touring pak. I think I could figure out how to add a cruise on it...Although I bet Yamaha does all this for 2011. IF I could afford it and justfy another bike in the barn...(4 in there now) I would own one of these just to ride on Sunday or Monday-Friday. 2.??? Not sure... Probably a BMW 1200LT...but I am not sure I could or would want to afford the maintenance cost... Does the warranty stay in place if you do all the maintenance yourself? 3.?????? maybe try a Wing...but last time I could not find a dealer that would let me sit on one, must less take a test drive....in Lafayette LA or Merdian/Jackson MS area. Yep they are idiots...if 50 year old guy comes in asking 100 questions about the Wing...you would think they may want to encourge a sale a little so they could take my money. Not these Morons. Maybe I looked homeless? I was drving a 6 year old VW, but it was clean. Maybe they thought my legs would not touch the ground anyway, so why bother... Solo Touring 1. FJR..I wanted one of these bad before I bought the Venture, untill sat on one and it really scared me how top heavy it felt...but understand I was used to a 205 lb racing bike so a little weighty feeling scared the daylights out of me. I probably would not even notice it now... 2. 2010 VMAX...bad MAX. That other company and I have a love/hate relationship. I will resist to the end to succum to their marketing practice and follow the crowd. I would probably have to fall on my sword first...or bump my head.
  10. Those look great on that Midnight bike. I have been looking at those...they are not too pricey. I saw them on Ebay once. My buddy has a bubs Rhinehart racing true duals on his ultra classic. They sound great but very LOUD. The black tips turned purple over time...I guess the heat and sun??? He had them powder coated back Black. You may have this same trouble here. He is talking about removing them cause they are getting louder over time...wearing him out on those long trips. I may try to borrow them from him to see what they will do on BLACK BETTY.
  11. There is also a braided wire ground under the passenger seat kinda under the front edge of the top trunk that is grounded to the hardware there. I think it is the CB ground...not real sure. Easy to get to. I had rather ground all grounds to the battery....sometimes those bolts on the frame grounds get corroded easily and over looked if you have a strange problem. On battery usually you expect them to corrode and you can watch them closely or treat them to prevent it.
  12. This is NOT a true statement. I have been working in the industry for 30 years and can tell you they are in place and tested regularly as required by the US Mineral Management Service. You have to submit a plan on how the well will be drilled...what equipment you will use and it must be approved by the MMS before you are allowed to start drilling. MMS inspects on a regular basis...and gives surprise inspections at a rather frequent intervals. You can face a big fines for sometimes relative minor infractions. Some of that is a good thing but sometimes it is up to the interpretation of the rules by the inspector and he may know nothing about oil/gas wells, drilling rigs or oil/gas production. You can get a hell of a fine for something as little as House Keeping. Now how do you define house keeping on a rig or production platform with tons of equipment sitting around? I could go on and on about this with examples. Many of these infractions can cause you to be shut down completely. Some have fines to your company...some have civil fines to the persons in charge. They can and will put you in jail if things are not according to the regulation. USCG also inspects all oil drilling and production platforms, not necessarily the drilling or production part but for Safety at Sea. Coast Guard wants you to fight the fire to the end to save the vessel. Most companies want you to abandon to prevent injury to persons. USCG can also fine you for infractions and shut down all operations till they are satisfied. The fines are the same as MMS...they both can put the person in charge (and sometimes others involved) in Jail for a long time. These inspections and fines most of the time are a good thing. If a company wants to drill or produce oil/gas they must follow them or they will be forced out of business with fines and jail time. Some of these smaller companies try to cut corners to get more bang for their buck and usually get caught and pay dearly for it...get thier permits pulled and loose the lease they are working on. Bigger companies do what they are supposed to do and go beyond the standards set by the Government to give them room for error in the standards. Kind of a cushion to prevent problems with the inspections and regulations. Deep Horizon/BP had equipment malfunction that was recently tested.
  13. Here is what you look for... Just happend to have one right here...
  14. The dealer told me Yamaha wants to see the old basket...I do not think he would pull my tail on this one... I am gonna try to do what he ask...he always does what I ask of him. He knows he can be straight with me. He has worked several warranty issues for me in the past...all handled the same way and some were maybe even out of the warranty period. I have bought about 14 units from him in the last 7 years... I don't think he would want to piss me off. In fact he sends me T or polo Yamaha shirts on my birthday. If I had another spring so I could double up...I probably would. SkyDoc asked that we send the wrong parts back to him. I did as he asked. I agree that all cats in the repair bays are not YOYO's but I have encountered more YOYO's than real techs that do quality work and can troubleshoot a problem. There are plenty of parts changers and some that cannot do that right. Maybe I need to come buy your dealership on one of my trips just to check it out. May need a tire or something on the way. Thanks for the info. I will have to remember Paris TN...
  15. Thanks a lot for the offers... I ordered one last night should be here Tuesday... I figured I would damage something trying to rig up something. I took them off those 250F racing bikes with a tool I made using the bolts in the clutch hub to hold the tool on...but I did break one once...I always kept plenty of racing parts around...and always had a back-up bike. No extra parts for the Venture laying around. Scared to risk it.
  16. Jack the front of the trailer up and find a high place to lower the ramp on to. Should work perfectly.
  17. Rear tires...sorry i should have specified
  18. One more question...I do not have a Clutch holding tool and cannot find one anywhere in town or in the area...do you think I can hold the clutch basket with a strap wrench. I can order one on line or get the local cats to order it...may take a week to get it...
  19. I would not exceed the operating pressure on the tire...under any condition. Keep in mind...Avon venoms usually have a higher pressure marked on the side wall than a Dunlop tire...I have yet to own a set but from all accounts they are good tires with a long service life. There has been a few folks with sidewall cracking... I have run the original 404 that came on the bike...hated it...took it off at 5424 miles to upgrade to the E3. So far over 11000 miles and still got almost 5/32 tread left of the rear. 11/32 tread is new. Dunlop 404 rear tire says (If I remember right) 41 max pressure. Dunlope E3's say 40 MAX pressure
  20. Got my last 2 E3's from Jakewilson.com 3508 on the ground now with about 11000 miles...new one 4509 not installed yet...
  21. Well there is other parts to swap out when you do the upgrade. I have those other parts and was hoping to do that part of the upgrade at least till the new springs come in. You right about the dealer letting me swap out the basket. Not SOP.. We have a long standing relationship from years of buying at least 2 racing dirt bikes a year from him and no telling how much business I sent him and he knows how I am about my stuff. He is a really good guy and always takes care of me...so I do not what to cause him any grief from Yamaha. So unless I hear other wise...I guess I will omit the clutch upgrade and just swap the basket, simply cause I am not sure if the clutch upgrade will work with the stock spring. Last I heard from the Skydoc...they are having a hard time getting the material for the new thicker heavier springs or something. It may be a while...but that's OK.
  22. I got one of those Skydoc clutch upgrade kits and thought since I was going into the clutch I would see if I could get the dealer to get me a new "I" basket to try to quieten the Jensen mobile chirp down some and do it all at once. I have a new I basket and convinced the dealer to let me install it (cause I do not want some Jack Ass messing around with my bike). Now I have to get the old clutch basket back to him pretty soon. Poor Skydoc is having a rough time with the clutch springs he got for all of us and I know now he probably wishes he would have not got his self into all that... I know he is doing all he can. I know I could probably use my original and the .60 spring but...I have already sent my .60 spring back to him for replacement when the replacements arrive. I was wondering if I could do the Skydoc clutch upgrade (pull the 1/2 disc out and replace with the full disc...trash the extra parts etc.) except use my original spring...and install the I basket so I can get it back to the dealer. I do not have any slippage so far on my clutch, only 17000 miles on the bike. I just wanted to make sure I do not have any slipping in the future. When Skydoc gets the new springs in...all I have to do is pop the new spring on to complete the upgrade. Help me out here...the dealer called again today wanting the old clutch basket back...so I need to move pretty quickly on this. If I have to swap out the I basket and put all the original parts in...that is ok...just trying to optimize my work on this clutch. Also planning some big trips here soon...so I do not want this clutch to go south on me while on the road. No risk taking here. Please I need some advice here...
  23. I agree it makes sense to try to use the VMAX engine in other bikes, BUT...the Vmax as it rolls off the assembly line now is pretty close to $20K, but so does the 2010 Venture. Take the new VMax...go add fairings, bags, trunk, radio, navigation systems, CB radio, build a frame to haul it all... add far amount of chrome and you will probably come in close to $30K. I think Yamaha has realized this and knows that since they Venture does not sell many bikes now...you price it out that high...they will sell even less. I would love to have that beast of an engine in touring bike that looked like a real motorcycle, not a space ship, not so sure I could get a second mortgage on the house to buy it. Also not so sure I could convince the wife that we need to spend that much on something you could get wet driving to work. I hope they can find a way to do it and not break the bank in these economic times.
  24. Drill the head off and go to Lowes and buy new bolts. Simple, quickest way to deal with it. You need to go buy some bolts anyway if you are installing a adapter to move the passing lights out away from the fairing. Good luck with it...
  25. Cool...it took a little bit (almost a minute) for it to connect but seems to be fine They talked about VentureRider.org What you workin on now?
