  1. You know, we just got back from Orange Beach (I saw very few tar balls, and all the beach, water and rest of the area was beautiful) anyway...I noticed it seems my gas mileage was way worst than I remember it last year on the long trips. I had to swap to reserve as I past the 150 mile mark on the OD and GPS (I have a Speedo healer). The trip was a nice hot 672:scorched: miles and we did run 75-80 on the 4 lanes 2 up with my wife of 110 lbs on the back. WE basically had no cargo as the boy was following in the Jeep hauling most of the junk you need at the beach. Last year when I made a one up, heavy loaded 1400 mile trip to the Smokies with my buddy that has the 06 ultra classic, I could run him out of fuel. I like to refill at about 150 just to be safe and he would sometimes run to the 180-200 miles before pullling in for fuel since he would get a fuel lite. My tank would take a little over 4 gallons to top off. He always beat me on mileage but I have a bigger tank. I might put .3 or .5 gallons more than him in my tank each fill up. That was not a problem. But this year seems Black Betty was sucking it down if I did not get much over 150 miles on a tank. Bike seemed to be pulling good so I do not suspect coil problems but I will check the temps on my headers to double check. I did not have another bike with me to compare the consumption with the speeds we traveled. I did not calculate the mileage since there are so many varibles...Gas pump accuracy and Speedo even with the Speedo healer, but the GPS and Speedo pretty close. I will check the carb sync and I have a new set of plugs I had planned to install along with a change of the fuel filter...for we are headed back to the smokies around July 5th and maybe hit the Blue Ridge park way this time up into Virginia. We will see what happends. I figure it may be less than before running the two lane roads at lower speeds but we will be heavy loaded and 2 up this time. Wife would bring the kitchen sink and the ironing board if she could. I do not have a trailer or we would be hauling the bedroom suit with us also. I will be looking at it close over the next month and will try give a good report of my findings.
  2. Say what?
  3. Hey I like that guy...Come get it...I had rather do the work on my bike that somebody I do not know or don't know their skill level. I would always wonder...did they tighten all the bolts to spec?...or cross thread about half of them. Hope it comes together for you. Good luck.
  4. Oh...:think:I was wondering why you guys did not email me or something. So the trailer goes to the winner at the international rally. OK...I can wait till then.
  5. Who won the trailer from the 2010 Freebird MD???????????????????????????????????????????
  6. Jake wilson is where I bought my last one...103.99 front 125.99 rear stock sizes Free shipping. http://www.jakewilson.com/productDetail.do?&navType=type&webTypeId=440&navTitle=Motorcycle+Tires&webCatId=57&prodFamilyId=16940 I got over 13000 on a set so far and probably can get another 3-4000...if I wanted to push it. I may swap out the rear next week (already bought the tire) cause we are planning a 2-3000 mile trip. I do not want to chance having to change it on the road.
  7. Tires make a difference how these bikes handle...Most of the stock brickstones and Dunlop 404 have been proven to hinder the rider. I went back with stock size and the Dunlop E3 and it made a world of difference. I think with the Avons you will get the same results. A big plus of this mod...these tires last a lot longer than what comes on it stock. Practice and seat time is probably the best thing you could do. A few thousand miles will make all the difference in the world. Welcome to the site...I think you will like it here if you just hang around some. :TEAL::welcome1:
  8. WE need to thank him for his service at least.
  9. That is great Buddy. I am so glad to see things turning around for you and Peg. Great looking bike...and I hope you have many many enjoyable miles on it.
  10. I love the E track. I put 3 rows in a 14 x 7 enclosed trailer I used to haul motocross bikes and then when I bought my toy hauler camper with the 13 foot cargo bay. Put a screw in every hole down the E track and it stays in place not matter what. I could put the bikes straight or kick them around at a 45 degree angle and put 6 bikes in that 14 x 7 with that e-tract when we would go to the amature national qualifiers. They have so many accessories for that stuff it is amazing. It did not bother a thing when I used the trailer to move a buddy or haul something other than bikes actually it helped me tie that junk down so it would not get banged up. IT is very versitile. Only thing I do not like about it...mud and dirt gets inside the Etrack and it is a bixxch to get it out. Vacuum after it dries works.
  11. I know what you mean...if my bolts get a little loose..I have lost one already while running down the road...if it moves just a little it really unnerves me. Especially if I am in some twisties. I put some stainless fender washers and went with some nylon insert nuts to prevent mine from getting loose. I got mine from Lowes. It has worked for me.
  12. Looks great...TIP...I put some of them tank bracket chrome covers on my...one of the phillips head screws that hold it on...and the tank... broke after about 10,000 miles and I lost my little chrome cover. I tighted it only with a phillips screw driver. I am not sure what happend. If you loose one. I got one, since I took mine off after one fell off.
  13. I'm 5'7" with a 30 inch inseam. Midnight RSV(the Quickest/Fastest ones). At first the bike seemed to be a hand full. This was my first big bike over 500lbs. Slow speed manuvers kept me on edge. It takes practice...the more you ride it the better it handles. Removed the stock Dunlop 404's and installed stock size Dunlop E3's. This made a world of difference to me. Got the Butt Butler to redo the seats and told him I would like to touch both my feet on the ground flat footed. He improved the seat comfort and I think both feet on the ground gave me a touch of confidence. Also purchase you one of them Ride Like a Pro DVD's. That will help a lot also, but don't go around scrapping the floorboards like they do... With a little seat time...you will have no problems at all with the beast of a bike. :TEAL:
  14. Don't exactly know a lot about the early KAWs...just like Monty said...most of the oil injections usually fail over time. Don't forget to make sure there is motor oil (not 2 stroke mix oil) in the tranny for the clutches Hope you get all the issues worked out...the kid will have a blast on that bike
  15. Glad you are OK... I park my bike before the sun starts to go down...way too many critters out there to surprise you...and sofa's too. I came upon a tanker hose in the road once. If you leave early...you will have get enough miles in for the day by the time it starts to get dark...and a lot safer.
  16. Could be leaking through the LED's giving you that voltage while it is off. I got a set like that once. I had to install a diode to block the running light voltage from interfering with my brake like functions... It was about 7.5 volts just enough to make my Knight rider sequential LED to think the brake was one.

  19. Yeah right...we all know what you was trying to do. You ought to be ashamed kidnapping that girl like that...all day long. What do you expect her to do... jump off while you are running down the road... I must admit you got a good story...just remember to stick to it. Well at least you had a good time.
  20. I saw that on the MSF website a couple of years ago...seems several states require relective material on the helments. I found some black reflective tape for my black helment. IT only apprears when it is dark and light hits it. My son has black flames on his black helmet. It looks good. I did that just in case some LEO wants to hassle me for something else, like speeding or riding a wheelie in the middle of town...I am covered on the reflective part at least when I get a ticket. Here is where I got mine. http://www.bikerhiway.com/reflective-motorcycle-products-reflective-motorcycle-decals-and-stickers-c-244_292_70_91.html
  21. You already had 2 that chunked off rubber and you have another one on the bike?
  22. Dunlop Web site says E3 rear..11/32 tread E3 front 6/32 tread depth. If you have ever used a tread depth gauge...you can come up with all kinds of numbers if you do not really pay attention where you are measuring. you have to make sure it is square with the tire and the probe is aligned with the tread to get the best measurement. Run the tires...there is nothing wrong with them. They will serve you well if you keep the pressure correct and take care of them a little bit. Wait till you get around 10-12000 miles then lets talk about how much tread you have left.
  23. Me and several of my buddies were headed that way last week but the weather was bad so we canceled...we have been there before and are coming again soon.
  24. Mineral Managment Service has suspended US drilling in the Gulf of Mexico. Hopefully this will not last too long. 77 rigs under contract right now in the GOM. another 46 not on contract as of this week. They are going to allow work over of the current wells. Also other countries not under MMS control can continue... If this last very long it could mean around 15,000 or more folks will be layed off. This could very easily cause spikes in Oil prices and we could see it at the pumps... No word on when it will be lifted. BTW...not trying to start an argument about whether they should or should not drill in the gulf after the on going disaster...just wanted to let you good folks know what is going on if you see a spike in prices.
