  1. I think I have one just like in the photo that i am not using. I will look tomorrow and if you will pay the shipping...you can have it IF I can find it in that dang shop. It was to big for my antenna...I use the XM Roady ll with the small antenna.
  2. The exact opposite happends to me but I do not own the other brand of bike. I have noticed folks who own harleys, they actually talk to them like they are human. They have always treated me as the enemy not a potential customer. I almost owned a 2008 Screaming Eagle White Ultra Classic, but they treated me like I was a homless guy cluddering up their show room. I had already secured the funds to purchase and was planning on purchasing it. My wife loved the bike but we had only looked at it. The bike had 3500 miles on it and they were asking over retail for the bike. They told me I could not afford it and really insulted me when I went down to see about purchasing it That is when the hate relationship started for me and it grew when I visited other dealerships and got treated like trash. I would probably consider owning one and may own one in the future but as a customer I will not be treated like a second class citizen from anyone that plan to take my money. They act like they were doing me a favor putting me on a bike that had a price tag thousands over retail plus shipping, set up fee, documentation fee, tax and title. Seems around here this is the norm, they must go to a school to learn how to be snobby and very rude to folks that come in to the shop...2 closest dealers are aXXholes and there only to take your money and put you on a bike. Screw if you are satisfied or having a problem with the product. Take it or leave it, don't like it go somewhere else as I have been told before. I have had several other instances at the dealers since I have been riding my Midnight RSV...you know if you ride with harleys you have to stop at every dealership and I pull in with them. The corporatoin does a real good job of marketing their bikes...you can see that by how many is on the road. Most folks buy them just to follow the crowd or maybe they like dressing up like pirates when they ride. I do not like their sales tactics at all. To me if you could move on the price a little...to at least make folks think they got a good deal...you would sell more bikes. Folks tell me all the time...you need to get you a harley. Why so I can take all that abuse from the dealers...no thanks. I have yet to find one that treated their customers or potential customers like they want their business. I am not going to beg nobody to take my money...they will have to earn my business, so I guess I will never own one unless I buy one from an individual.
  3. Glad you got the right color... I am sure you will get many enjoyable miles out of it... Oh yeah just in case you do not know...the black ones are the fastest.
  4. RAM also makes nice mount for the XM Roady... http://www.ram-mount.com/Products/MotorcycleMounts/tabid/128/Default.aspx
  5. Does the Zumo plug into the bike's existing sound system? If so, how does it connect? A = Yes you can connect it to the exsisting sound system through the jack in in the cassette player or put a Y under the fairing... I choose to not use the Zumo 660 sound into the existing sound system. I actually keep the sound turned down while traveling. I do not use the MP3 player section much and sure do not want to hear the GPS telling me it is recalculating everytime I make a wrong turn or take off down a road I want to travel on that is not on the route...I glance at it once in a while to see when i need to make a turn..."next turn 10 miles" If so does it then play through the AUX function? A = Yes it would play on the Aux function. I use the Aux port through a splitter under the fairing and use a Ipod for my MP3 music...IPOD has more memory for MP3 storage. I like to carry 5-10 days of tunes. I understand the Zumo is Bluetooth compatible. Is that correct? Can you receive calls through your helmet headset? A = It does have blue tooth but it takes a couple of minutes for it to sync up with your phone. I do not use a headset with my helmets, have yet to find one comfortable to wear for days with out problems (have no use for the CB either). Also could not get a straight answer on how you control 2 devices to the head set, or which one is gonna be heard over the system also found out that in some states it is illegal, but that is up to you. You cannot syn blue tooth to 2 devices...only one device. I do not receive calls with it...I use it in the evening when I am looking for a hotel room. I stop...search for closest hotels...touch which one I am interested in, turn up the speaker volume on the Zumo...and it dials the number and I talk to them about room availability and room cost through the Zumo 660...Kinda like a hands free phone...the phone stays in my vest pocket. Very useful with your helmet still on. I also use it while traveling...it will display you have a incoming call...I know the next time I stop...I need to check my phone to see if the call needs to be returned or ignored. From reading the various threads about the Zumo it sounds as though the newer version may be significantly improved over the 550. Any thoughts on that? A= I never had a 550 and do not know much about them, but I hear they are nice units. I already have a XM radio which i understand the 550 has it included. I move my xm from bike to car to truck to office...one unit to do all that...I mounted my XM on a RAM mount on the opposite side. The 660 is a great piece of equipment in my book. It comes with software you can map out your routes and take those little back roads if you want, not have the GPS wants to you get from point A to point B. You can also use a website Harley Trip planner BETA...but it is kinda buggy and you get a strange route sometimes. I usually map out my routes before a road trip...1400 1500 miles in advance. I travel mostly off the interstates and off the 4 lane roads, this is where you can see the real country side. When you get the routes you like then you transfer them via USB to your 660 and call it up as custom route and never have to worry about it. This is what makes the Zumo 660 so great to me, I pick what route I take. I carry a small Netbook with me in the event we want to change the route or change directions due to weather or see another site we might have missed otherwise. The Netbook is great fro check mail and the venture site while at the hotels at night. I never have to worry about which road to take or stop to look at a map to determine if I need to take hwy 6 or 23 north cause I forgot after lunch which way I was going to take...I get senior moments trying to do this late in the day. As far as playing the MP3 music, do you load the Zumo from your computer at home or does it have a jack to plug an iPod into? A = MP3 are loaded buy the windows explorer drag and drop files into a specific folder via a USB cable. I use this sometimes with an ear bud on some electronic books while my wife wants to hear the radio or tunes from the Ipod which is connected to the AUX port on the existing sound system. It also has a picture viewer you can look at your photos on a mini SD card or in a specific folder on the Zumo 660. Thanks in advance for any information you might have to share. A = I love mine...and would buy another one if something happens to this one...well worth the money in my opinion. It comes with a nice RAM mount for your bike and a windshield mount for your car of truck...so it can be used everyday. It is water proof for motor cycles and if you calibrate the touch screen it work great with gloves. It is very easy to see in bright sunlight...Also I would recommend purchasing the lifetime maps from Garmin...4 updates a year and be sure and keep the Zumo software and your computer software updated from the Garmin website...they have added several nice features since I purchased it through these updates. If you have any other questions please let me know.
  6. About the same as Sling. Couple of screw drivers Phillips and straight blade, full set of ball metric allen wrenches, few open end/box end metric wrenches (8 10 12 14 17MM), 6" and 4" adjustable wrench, cutting pliers, small Vise grips, T handle with 8 10 and 12MM sockets, fuses, small coil of wire, wire nuts, tape, tyraps, tire plug kit, small DC air compressor (make sure you fully test it before you load it) and a small bottle of Slime... And a prayer everyday that I need none of it. All the tools and stuff I can put in a pouch 4" x 7" x 2". The compressor and slime came in a pouch about 6x6x2 If I cannot get it back up with this stuff...call roadside assistance or a buddy and wait.
  7. No...I would not take the shoulder or emergency lane. But in some states it is perfectly legal due to air cooled bikes need to be moving to keep from over heating. I would be afraid I would encounter an idiot that did not know that LAW and act a fool toward me cause I was getting ahead of him in line and possibly hurt me or my passenger...then the gunfight would start. (just kidding)
  8. Chief...Thanks for what you are doing, I know what you mean about the devastation. You need to make sure you are taking care of yourself so you can continue helping out down there. Slow down a little cause you ain't as young as you used to be.
  9. Test on 3 tire gauges...filled an air tank to check the pressure...I think some of this is the little bit of air you loose each time you check the pressure. 39.6 first one 38.9 2nd one (-.7) and 38.6 third one (-.3)... I suspect it is not likely they are all off by the same amount but it is possible...they are all the same brand.
  10. Hey what kind of trouble you been stirring up lately...I know you have been up to no good... I have a couple of digital gauges here at the house...they are pretty close last time I checked them...I use the same one on my bike. Maybe I need to check these gauges again. I try real hard to keep 40 PSI in the rear. I am kinda ANAL about tire pressure. Thanks for the input I may got get them all out now...
  11. You must be living right, holding your mouth right and paying the preacher extra on Sunday... I have heard as low as 3500 miles on the famous D404, but I have have heard about over 12000 miles on the original 404 that came on the bike...but the next 404 lasted only a short while. I would be willing to bet you will not get that on the next set, but I hope you do if you like the 404's. Tip: change to Avon Venom or Dunlop E3 and get better mileage PLUS better handling.
  12. Ummm...sounds like I may need to get some warranty work...or maybe work a deal so they at least supply the parts. Thanks guys for all your input.
  13. Got find you another dealer...that on is to stupid to have customers.
  14. I took a good look at the play on the swing arm and shock. I have a magnetic base Starlet dial indicator and I found +/-.20 in (total .40in) side to side motion...and .60in up and down slack. The up and down slack is at the top of the shock...is there a bearing where the top shock bolt goes through? It seems the bolt is smaller than the hole in the shock and it is moving. The side to side may be some deflection from the steel swing arm since I am measuring it near where the axle bolt goes through just behind that last weld. The book says 0 in/mm play in either direction... Re-torgued all bolts on the shock and lnks…took another reading Now it is at +/- .05 side to side and .20 up/down slack. Lot better but still not as the book says. 0 in/mm... what do you all think? I looked at the two lines around the bead you talked about above...you can clearly see where the wheel was on the tire...looks like it was seated good on the rim. I looked at the tire really good...seems even wear on both sides of the tire...no noticable difference between left and right sides and all the feathering seems to be pretty close to the same all around the tire...looks like the photo may have been misleading. I appreciate the advice from all of you.
  15. I use a Loctite Moly 65 paste...if you want to use Moly on the drive pins on the RSV...use this. you can find it in many places...mostly industial supplers...Grainger, Wilson supply...MSC supply. Here is a link for the MSDS to this stuff...note the 60-100 Molybdenum disulfide. http://www1.mscdirect.com/MSDS/MSDS00014/00270256-20051026.PDF Also the link to purchase http://www1.mscdirect.com/CGI/NNSRIT?PMPXNO=1659540&PMT4NO=88703457 but like has been said here already...I think if you do regular maintenance...any good grease will work. I use this cause I had a problem at 700 miles with drive pins clicking...
  16. Wait Goose... what do you see besides feathering?
  17. I appreciate it... I guess if it was the shock...or balance...why would it do it only on the sides? Middle smooth as can be...wouldn't I feel the out of balance condition? The tire appeared to run smooth...only indication was the noise when you got it off center. Ummm...bike has only 18K miles...I know it is possible but I would not think I have worn swing arm bearings so soon...huh? Loose shock mounts...I do notice when I have it on a lift...then let it to the ground...when I first put my weight on the bike, I feel it drop about 1/4 inch. Only if I have had it off the ground. No oil on or around the shock...

  19. We have a big trip planned for the 1st week of July so I am a little concerned about the rear E3. Got to looking at it real close and it is scalloped on the sides. UMMM...what caused that? This is a rear tire and I run 40 PSI in the tire and check it regularly. I ride 2 up about 1/2 time and still check the pressure regularly. As you can see I do not ride the twisties much cause there just not that many roads here that have twisties...Mostly straight road with slight curves compared to the smokies. I got 13700 miles on it so far...still got about 4-5/32 tread depth but it is kinda noisy when you get it off center. I am well pleased with the performance of this tire and feel I have got my money's worth, although i could probably get another 3-5000 miles out of it...why take the chance. You know what they say if you are thinking about changing a tire...you should go ahead and do it...if you are going on a road trip. See attachments for photos...43 and 44 is the same tire looking at different directions...the other one is side view you can see the slight raising at the tread grooves. I am gonna change it just in to be safe for the trip, since we do not know how far we will go and really have not decided how long we will be gone. The wife and I are off from work for 3 weeks and we plan to ride till we get tired then turn around and head back home. The rear wheel is at the closest dealer swapping the tire now. Just wondering...What caused this??? What do you think?
  20. Yep that is the same thing Yamaha told me back in 08...about the new 09's coming out... I guess I was surprized about he colors...no Midnight edition for 09 and still got the cassette player as it does also for 2010. Where do they find these casette players to put in these bikes???...are they recycling them from wrecked bikes? I often wonder if they have some old guy building them in his garage cause I do not think anyone offers one for sale now days. I think they might have lied to me. again. I am hoping for that new VMAX engine...but I am afraid it will be the Strato liner deluxe with a tour pack and full audio package. I think they are testing the water with the Stratoliner deluxe. Strato liner very very nice bike... Most of the upper line bikes have that 1854 CC V twin. Raider, Stratoliner, Roadliner and Stratoliner Deluxe...I saw one at a dealer recently. I had looked at the photos a lot before I actually saw one...and I guess I had built my expectations too high. It was sharp but it did not cause me to want it like the photos did. I was surprized that after I sat on it...and looked at it real close...it did not bother me to leave it sitting right where it was. I did not even ask what they would take for it. I guess I surprized myself on that one. 17490 retail...and I could have a VMAX got $2K more. I think the VMAX would be a lot more fun. I hate to see them use that VMAX engine in just one bike. All them horses wasted on one bike...
  21. Oh...that is what the RSTD did this year...and what the VMAX did before the beast came out. If all indications of the past are true...then 2012 will be the 3rd Gen Venture...it will probably look like a Wing in front...have a tank and seats from a KAW...and the back end of a Harley, with the engine from a Toyota Supera V6, boss hog style. Saddle bags that have a capacity of 16 gallons each. 144 inch wheel base and come in just under 2000 lbs (1987 lbs)
  22. I can bring it to Lafayette to cut some of that down if you are interested. I am in that area every other week. I would go a little further to meet you if you want.
  23. You did not mention anything about getting some sugar as you dropped her off...why did you leave that part out? Hey I got the perfect starter bike for her. 2008 VStar Midnight 650. Got mustang seats, sissy bar, luggage rack, windshield, air horn, LED tail light and turn signals, with a brand new set of Avon Venom tires front and rear. Bike has about 7700 miles on it...it is a clean bike...never dropped or abused. IT would be a great starter bike for only $4800 OBO. IT has $1960 worth of accessories on it. Check the classifieds out...or PM and I will send you the full resolution versions.
  24. I looked at one at the Little Sturgis ralley in Sturgis MS. The bike has a lot of nice features, that anyone would enjoy. I think the price is a bit high, especially if you are exceeding the Ultra Classic. I was very disappointed in the saddle bags and some parts on it seemed kinda cheap. Polarus is a snow mobile company, right...maybe they need to stick to what they are good at. I am not sure I could pay that much for so much Ugly. All I can do now is hope Yamaha takes notice of the nice features it has and does not see the bike to possible duplicate that funky look.
  25. Pretty good tube video... I know it is very very beautiful up there... No thanks...not loosing my guns, and I like to ride more than a few months a year. I will keep my constitutional republic, south of the Mason Dixon line.
