CMIKE replied to SilvrT's topic in Watering Hole
How about a link to the assembly manual. Sounds like a great document to have. Again...this forum has increased our knowledge about the great RSV. Thanks in advance. -

I was in Gatlinburg Tenn last week and found a pair just like this for $109. http://www.openroadleatherandaccessories.com/product-2452.html Also this may be an option also. http://www.bikersden.com/shop/shopexd.asp?id=1805 I have not delt with either of these vendors so I do not know how good or bad they may be. I never owned a pair of chaps before last week... Now both the wife and me have a set. I tried on several pair till I found this type. I wear a belt all the time anyway and this type seem easier to get on and off. At first I thought I may be sacraficing some of the protection but I am not sure. What do you more experienced guys think about the protection provided with this type?

Watch out for the windshield as you load it in an enclosed trailer. I borrowed a Halmark Cycle hauler enclosed trailer to fetch my 07 midnight from Kentucky. I thought I had went over every thing that could possibility happen. I had padded straps, extra straps and a plenty of help with me My buddy hauls Harley Ultra classics in this trailer regularly, so I thought the RSV would slip right in there. I got the dealer to run her up in the trailer and the windshield hit the top of the trailer as it went in. OUCH. Luckly it did not break it, but it did flex some as it went in. Small scatch on the top of the windshield now. That RSV filled that trailer up... It seemed a lot bigger than the Ultra Classic. Unloadinging it, we had to take a rachet strap and compress the front supension to get her out and still had to lean her over to get away from the top of the trailer as it eased out of the trailer on to the gate. I would not try to haul a RSV in a pickup truck. To much can happen loading and unloading. AS you probably know...the bike is balanced well but If she gets going over it is all over. I know a several folks that have messed up thier bike coming down the ramp of TOY hauler campers. Usually the ramp gates are a little steeper on these. This can cause some stuff to happen that will make you sick.

I want to go on a ride like that. The photos are great. I just need to get the wife to agree to it. She has not been on the bike for more than a couple of hundred miles yet. But she is a good rider. Just need some time to work up to it. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Ladies recommendation for the pillion seat?
CMIKE replied to a topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I put a set of Mustang Seats on my 08 VStar Custom...much much better than stock. Not as comfortable as a RSV. I found these on Ebay for a pretty good price. The wife now can ride 80 miles without a break then we have to start stopping about every 50 miles or an hour, which ever comes first for a 5 minute break. Keep in mind this is pre RSV purchase. Now she is not interested in going anywhere on the VStar Custom -
Shot bearings? I am very surprized. It is possible... but I just wonder if the dealer took it apart to come up with this diagnosis? Or just listen and look? It very much sounds like a bearing problem. My 07 Midnight started making that noise at 800 miles... I losened the 4 acorn bolts on the final drive and spun the rear wheel. For some reason the noise just about stopped. I am pretty sure my noise is not a bearing. Yeah I know it is covered by warranty, but If I do it myself I will know it is done right. I guess I do not trust folks to do a good job anymore. I got the Moly grease on order got most of the stuff off of it already and plan on tearing it down Wednesday. I will let you know of the results

WANT TO TALK TO ANOTHER BIKE w/o AUDIO
CMIKE replied to TESchoener's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
We race motor cross and we use a thoat mic from Fire Fox. This is a band that goes around from the back of your neck to your thoat and has a ear bud for your ear. I use it to talk to my kid while he is riding on the track as a coaching tool. It mates up with FRS motorola walkie talkies that have voice activation on them. This a really cheap way to do it...Motorola makes some thoat mics also. http://firefoxtechnologies.zoovy.com/ You can see them on ebay also. No wind noise or bike engine noise, just voice. The mic picks only the virbrations from your thoat. They are very confortable and you forget you have them on.. We put the radio in your pocket or inside the motor cross pants. They tell me a lot of paint ball folks use them cause they are hands free. They have several different models...they work great. I got them off ebay and think I have about $50 in the two sets, radios included. You can use them for other stuff also...not just riding. We used them for hunting last year... -
I got a 07 a couple of weeks ago with 19 miles...now 879 miles. I have a 30" inseam and I cannot flat foot the bike either...but it is so balanced I have no problems. I would leave it alone... It slow speed handles better than other big bikes I test road.

If Yamaha would get with the times I think they would sell more Ventures. Like the VMAX. That bike will never die. Muscle bike with a big price tag. To me the VMAX is like the Venture...they did not redisign it for many years...it was time to do something. I think the Venture is next. That VMAX is got to be fun to ride but for how long. Long enough to go to the store and back home before the cops get after you. They spent tons of money redesigning that bike...and it is still Mr MAX. My dealer told me they are suppose to redesign the Venture for 09. I asked for details of the changes and he said wait till Sept 13th and it will be on the factory website. He said he was sure they got rid of the cassette deck. I could not tell somebody my new 2008 bike had a cassette player in it. He said it is suppose to compete with the Gold Wing...not sure I like that... He also said there has been a big jump in street bike sales industry wide. He went on to tell me all manufactors are down in sales but street bikes are up in all manufactors lines compaired to four wheelers, dirt bikes and side by sides due to the fuel cost increase. I am really hoping for a upgrade 09. I want a new one. I want to see the 09's and if they don't set me on fire a 07/99 or 08/99 will do. I will be willing to paint an 08/99 to get away from black cherry or the gray since they have not did a major upgrade since 1999. I rode a harley ultra classic for a day last week. Was not impressed. It is time for a upgrade...bigger engine, fuel injection, new radio. Keep what is working and get rid of what is not. Get it into the year 2008. I am hoping for it to look like a Stratoliner with a corbin fairing on it, with hard bags, no leather covered stuff. Smooth as glass. Keeping my fingers crossed. and hoping. You guys keep your eyes open.
