stock exhaust mods
CMIKE replied to krotchrocketgrampa's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I did the stock exhaust mod on my 07. Took the dremel tool and removed that outer cone adn then drilled 4 -1/2 holes in mine... Now at least I can hear it running while going down the road. It worked out alright but not very loud. When I get some money I am planning on going with either some Baron Slash cuts or BUB sleepers. -
Thanks...I have completed the sync job already but could not do one off idle, thats when my Motion pro POS showed its real colors. They are pretty close to perfect at idle but rev it and I do not know what is going on. I saw found the website from over seas but was not sure how the money exchange would happen. I have heard scary stories where folks get these large and strange fees converting the currency. Thanks again.

I got about 3300 miles on my 07 Midnight...when you lean it off center you can hear the rear tire noise. I do not notice it all the time...just when I hear it...I can do a little zip zap in the lane and confirm that it is tire noise. Cannot wait to get them 404's replaced.

Where do you get the Carbtune Pro. I got one of those Motionpro POS...IT seemed to work fine but then I could not get a reading above idle... IT would try to suck all the fluid out. Ah...yes the Restricters are installed in the hoses. I looked on the web...seems you order them from overseas somewhere... Where is the best and cheapest place to get a Carbtune Pro?

If no one here has a set for sale...Watch Ebay. I have noticed several sets of pillow top seats on Ebay for the 2nd gen. I do not see none there now...but keep watching I am sure you will find some there if you keep your eyes open.

Yep Scott2007 hit it on the head. My 2007 Midnight had a bad scatch on the trunk when I bought it. You now the 2007 midnight has that metalic type paint. I ordered the touch up paint from colorrite it worked great...If I show you where the scatch was...you could see it...other than that..you would never notice it. It is kinda expensive but what ain't now days

I mounted a set of these inside the lower grill of my VW Jetta. I hooked them up at first to come on as fog lights with the low beams... I figured they were way to bright since every car I met flashed me. I adjusted them down several times and finally had reconnect them to be used with the high beams only.

We left this morning at 6:30...made a couple of stops for Fuel and to eat. Really had no destination...just riding. Traveled 384 miles my face got wind burnt or sun burnt...my tail in good shape. Thanks Rick. Best Money I ever spent. Now if he can come up with a mod to keep my face from getting all red.

I got mine back yesterday...putting them back on today and hopefully if the weather holds...gonna try them out tommorrow. I can't wait. I really appreciate Rick and him doing this for us.

I just love my XM...I move the one XM reciever on my bike, in all our cars, in my shop, and use it 24/7 at work. Always got it on. I am a talk radio addict. I usually sign up on a yearly thing and I am good till June. I got an email Sunday that said if I want to continue my online listening, I would have to pay an addtiional $2.99 to continue... What? I paid for a year...included in that yearly subscription was on line listening. I send them a email asking if they were planning on sending a refund for the remianing months of on line listening, if that was gonna be removed for my services. I paid for a year with that feature...Don't seem they could take it away. I have not heard from them yet. I do know one thing...during all that merger with Sirrius...It was really aggrevating to find my favorite channels off line for 6-8 hours at a time. I know they were moving channels around and all but I can get service that good or better on FM. They heard from me on that to. I hope they stay up. I am hooked now.

I have thought about it...but where do you get them...I have seen blanks on Ebay but are they correct blanks. If I could find a source for the correct blank...I would have one cut locally. My dealer is 2.5 hours away...not much worth the effort to go there...

Need Some thoughts on gauge problem
CMIKE replied to bikenut's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If you can get to a shop manual page page 8-80 or 465 in the PDF file... http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1828 This talks about Self Diagnosis of fuel sender and fuel themistor It talks about the fuel gauge full bars blinking on and off at 0.5 seconds then all off for 3 seconds 1 cycle repeated 3 times. OR the last bar indicating empty blinking on/off at .05 seconds. OR the far left full bar blinking on/off at .05 seconds They go through checking the harness, checking sender for continuity. You can get to the plug for the sending unit by removing the black plastic on top of the tank, around the key switch. Hope this helps...I know it has to really stress you out being on a trip and having trouble. -
I think I would sign up for one...Catch me if you can. I have been wanting one of those ugly bikes anyway...just knew they where not comfortable to ride. Heck it would be going so fast who could tell what it looked like. Can you imagine what that would cost? Bare bike $18-19000 - fully dressed with all the bells and whistles...$30K or more?

Blue huh.... Oh yeah...Gambit...there is always a battle on 1st Generation owners verses 2nd Generation owners. Stick around...you will enjoy it here for sure.

IMHO...A Midnight is a very special bike. It has chrome fork tubes and wonderful black paint job. The Midnight editions usually bring more resale value. BUT I may be partial since I own a Royal Star Midnight Venture. WELCOME to this site. You will find so much information about Venture that we love so much, it will make your head spin. There is a huge wealth of knowledge here in text and from the members experience owning the Venture. Ask any question and you will have an answer pretty quick. AGAIN WELCOME to the Family.

LED Brake Light and LED turn signals
CMIKE replied to Maritimer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Hey Mike That is kinda strange...Custom dynamics folks told me the turn signal LEDs were supposed to fit down inside the lense covers and just seem to fit too tight down in the lense covers. I was afraid I would never get them out again... I installed them on my son's 08 Vstar along with the brake light... It has 132 LEDs for the brake light. Instruction on this one said hot glue the LED board inside the lense cover. Looked good but did not like that install much. On the turn signals again...I filed the edges of the turn signal boards to get them to drop down inside the lense covers. They now fit snug as do the ones on my venture. I guess what made me real cautious about this...I had a little bit of wax that I had not removed on the brake light lense...it was hidden till I removed it. I installed the rear LED brake light and that little bit of wax was visible...then I noticed the lense cover did not seem to be fully seated in the rubber gasket. Seems the LED board was in between the lense cover studs and the studs coming out from the brake light assembly holding the lense cover off the gasket. I guess I could have drilled the holes out in the LED module but they were not as close as I thought they should be to the right size on mine. I ground off the 3 studds inside the brake light lense just enough to allow the lense to fully seat against the rubber. That is what made me really want to make sure the turn signals were sealing off to the rubber. Hell I usually over analyze stuff anyway. Good that you got them to work as they were. Good to hear about others experience on this great aftermarket stuff. Love my LED lights. Thanks for backing me up. I think we need to get a discount on our next order from these folks. What do ya think...probably NOT. Mike C. -
Lights under the bags are dual density knight rider with flashing brake alert from Custom Dynamics. Those are the ones I talked about above that the flashing brake alert does not flash at the same rate so I am going to replace them the kinght rider non sequenctial, non flashing brake alert...just dual density. I plan to strobe them with all the brake lights. I swapped my headlight bulb to a H4 Silver Star Ultra. This is the brightest light Sylvania makes at this time.

Recommended Tie Down Procedure?
CMIKE replied to GG54172's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I would prefer some soft ties...preferably some with some sheep skin/wool or really soft stuff on them...http://www.tie-down-straps.com/images/motorcycle-tie-down-sling.gifhttp://img.jpcycles.com/product/940-070_A.jpgfor 2 reasons...one to keep the metal hooks away from the bike and two to wrap them around the hooks so they will not bounce loose and really 3 to not scuff the paint or chrome with the steel or rubber coated hooks. Even slight vibration can cause straps to vibrate and scuff up your new scoot. I prefer the rachet tie downs so I can get them really tight. I am always nervous about hauling a bike. Becareful loading and straping it down...remember the RSV is a heavy bike...They are ment to be rode...I hope the weather holds so you can ride it home. Good luck with the new bike and take it easy getting her home. . -
Look at these photos. I have a knight rider license plate frame...heavy chrome with the night rider LED on the back...with flashing brake alert. Really bright and gets your attention. I installed the non-sequential knight rider LED 3" bars with flashing brake alert under the bags... BUT they did not flash at the same rate. I am swapping them out with non squential, non flashing brake alert (just dual density LED) and installing a strobe unit for all brake lights including the LED;s in the trunk fin and LED tail light to work with brake applied...work in progress right now...should be finished about Thursday or Friday of this week. I hope to strobe them 3 times really fast (3 flash in one second) then hold steady. I may have to play with it to get it like I want it.

Yes I replaced both front and rear. I did use a load equalizer due to my turn signal cancel acted kinda funny...not consistant and turn signals blinked at about 145 per second. DOT says...60-120 per second. I installed an aux fuse box around the battery so not much room there now and I had to mount the load equalizer under the trunk. I replace stock side reflectors with LEDs I found at JP cycles. Added more LED strips also. STill working on something with a strobe unit and the brake light...not sure hoe it is gonna work out just yet so will not say much about that now. I got some photos but plan to take some good ones outside later this week. I will post them in my profile when done with all of it.

Just in case Brian D. has not had a chance to take his photos yet...here is mine with LED turn signals...all from Custom Dynamics. One word of caution... The tail/stop lamp that I installed from Custom dynamics... The LED tail light is a circuit board that fits between the lense and the lense base. The thickness of the circuit board kept my lense from fully seating on the lense cover gasket and I did not feel it was making a good waterproof seal. I ground off the three studs inside the lense cover to allow the lense to go all the way back into the gasket for better sealing. The unit plugs directly where the old bulb was plugged into...very easy to install. Looks great and really bright. Photo is with the running light on...not the brake light...and I had the 4 way flashers on to show the turn signals. Hope this helps

Stadium Yamaha is some good folks to deal with...I have made several purchases from them... http://www.stadiumyamaha.com/pages/catalogs/detail/26/198/398/20151/3/0/0/1/4/90/69/338/trunk-rack.aspx South seattle Yamaha is also some good folks to deal with...I have delt with them also. http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/pages/catalogs/detail/26/198/398/20151/3/0/0/1/4/90/69/338/trunk-rack.aspx Motorsports Super Center in Alabama seems to be the cheapest by a couple of dollars. http://www.motorsportssupercenter.com/pages/catalogs/detail/26/198/398/20151/3/0/0/1/4/90/69/338/trunk-rack.aspx All of them have been easy to deal with and have good prices.
