Down here hockey pucks are kinda hard to find as is the ice to use them on. The Baron 1" riser extentions work good for me, lot more comfortable...I am a small guy with short arms. 5'7" 185lb I did have some problems with the throttle cable routing. It was not really sticking but it would not return on its own when turned all the way to lock. I re-routed the throttle cable several times till I got this fixed. Also the bar clampss hit the black plastic around the ignition key when you go left or right to lock. The only time this is a issue most when parking. I think I found a link on this site about using some car spring expanders to rebuild the rubber that supports the fairing. It evads me now...I found a set of 4 at Autozone and they are really easy to shape with a course file. I had to modify the orginal just a little to fit at the higher level and then made an extention to raise the orginals up in to position. I found a peice of metal to act as a strap to hold them together and painted it black so it would not stand out. Atached it with a couple of sheet metal screws. Fairing is proabaly tighter than it was from the factory and does not move untill you get in those really big pot holes. Take your time and build some thing that looks as close to factory as you can.

I think you need to really do some research on this before you jump. I know some guys that used these on racing dirt bikes...(not this particular brand) sometimes they have a mind of there own. I know the newer FJR's have an electric shift which pulls the clutch and shifts the bike for you and some folks I talked to say they are really unpredicatable in parking lot handing speeds. Definitely something to get used to. Most of the time if I see a FJR in the show room it is a Electric shift left over and seems they are not catching on because of this. Manual shift bikes sell a lot better. Something to consider.

Not trying to start a big argument or get something going about politics. But I know you like myself always hear about these polical polls and approval ratings of who ever is in office and wonder "who did they ask to come up with this information in this poll?" mostly cause everyone in our private circle may have a totally different opinion. Well here is your chance... MSNBC has a poll on a website about the performance of our president. Check it out and you may want to contribute. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/29493093/ Again we do not want to get into the good, bad or ugly discussions...Keep your ratings to yourself, cause everyone is different and may not see it as you do. Remember we are a very diverse group with all kinds of different ideas about religion and politics...and that is OK. One thing for sure...we all like to ride and that is what has brought us here. Plus the Boss says don't start no junk.

Southwest Moto seems to be the best I found until recently... http://www.jakewilson.com -$10 when you buy 2 or more tires This is a kick off of Rocky Mountian ATV/MC which I purchased most of my motorcross gear, and accessories due to the selection and great prices. I checked the other day and surprizingly the Big bike tires with the -10 off for 2 are $2-5 cheaper than Southwestern moto. Free shipping for orders over $100 and you get credit back based on amout you spend with them for the year. I got over $60 last year I could credit on an order. They do not have a big selection on the website for a lot of big bike accessories but are gaining everyday. They have a good reputation with me for I have been buying from them for close to 5 years for motocross. Some of the sites listed in previos post...most of the time I have a really hard time finding exactly what I want quickly and prices do not match what the catalog says on some of the stuff. Tires is pretty easy to find...but look for a Chain tention idler for YZ250F. You will waste a lot of time looking. One thing for sure...you have to watch all websites to get the best deal. I to have notices prices going up and down from week to week and month to month. I am trying to decide if I am gonna pull the 404's off prematurely (only 4K now) to get some Avons or E3's installed to improve on the handling of Black Betty.

Turn signal problems
CMIKE replied to trickster_mo's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Maybe get the right bulb...maybe it got damaged when you did the mod. 7507 or a BAZ bulb for turn signals on the newer Ventures. Hell just install all LED's and forget swapping bulbs. -
I have installed full LED's on 3 bikes now. 07 RSMV, 05 RSMV and 08 Vstar Custom. The first was my 07...I used those Kuryakyn talked about above...had 2 of them. One for front and one for rear. They did not work at all. Turn signals flashed at 145 flash per minute with or without them. Emergency flashers flashed at the normal rate. DOT requires 60 to 120. Called Custom Dynamics and they recommened Metric Load Equalizer. This one does not require you to mount it on the frame for heat disspation. Those that require mounting on frame can over heat and fail if used for extented lenght of time. (like a parade or something) Worked like a champ cancelling worked also. Did the same thing to my son's Vstar Custom...again perfect. Next my wife's cousin. (week ago) All work perfect. IF you still have some incandescent bulbs...it should not matter...that load equlizer fools the system to think it has a load. You are just adding more load, so it really should not matter. Make sure you got good connections and are connected right. Power - Left - Right and Ground. I did not use those twist on connectors...solder them and heat shrink them down. I am not sure about a whining noise...never had that happen. MAny of us have used the Metric Load Equilizer from Custom dynamics and had really good sucess with them. Check your connections and make sure you have a good ground. You can probably experiment wth all kinds of stuff and finally get it to work. The loads we used were a sure thing for most of us. I hope this helps. Good Luck. Sorry you are having trouble.

I have both...I bought the Motion Pro first. Easier to get and cost a little less. I could set the carbs at Idle but not much over idle....it would try to suck the fluid out of it. Calibration is a pain with the Motion pro to me. The Motion pro got to where I could not calibrate it after about 3 times to use it. I cannot calibrate it now...one channel is screwed. I am probably gonna throw it in the trash real soon. I fully prefere the Morgan. I purchased mine off Ebay and Pay Pal made the converstion for me. It arrived within a week no problems...Plus if there is a problem Pay Pal will fix it and if you have Pay Pal hooked to a Credit card that is another layer of protection for you. Mercury is the best of all if you could ever find one that you could get your hands on.

Ahh you see what we see. Now you see why I searched all over the USA back in Sept of last year to find a 07 Midnight still on the dealers lot with 19 miles in Murray Kentucky. Took off a day of work and 14 hours round trip straight driving to pick it up. I think they made a bad mistake discontinuing the Midnight bikes. Some folks do not like a black bike but to me they really stand out.

From racing the Yamaha YZ250F all these years we checked and adjusted the valves on our racing bikes. They to have the shim and bucket with dual camshafts. The Yamaha 250F is a tank of a engine and has a reputation of staying together with its 5 valve design. In fact just like the Venture...rock solid engine. I ran a 06 250F almost 100 hours before the bike indicated they needed adjustement. Power usually stays the same...the only indication you get...it will all of a sudden begin to be hard to start. You may have to push it off to crank it first thing in the morning but after that...all will be well for the rest of the day. The intake valves stretch causing them to tighten up. You could physically measure them and see how much they stretched after removed. These are titanium valves. I ran that 06 engine till I ran out of tolerance and added all the shim thickness I could. It was always a strong engine. I sold it before I had to install new valves and seats. I was afraid I was gonna snap off and ruin the engine. Unless you run the snot of it all the time...usually the valves would stay in tolerance. I have an 07 250F now with a lot if upgrades in the engine (different cams, high compression piston, inginition box) and the valves get checked regularly just to keep it in top running order. With a engine that has a rev limter set at 14500 RPM...and hits it regually what do you expect. Since I have only owned a Venture since Sept of last year I was wondering where do you get the shims to adjust the valves on the Venture. For the motorcross engines Hot Cams makes a shim kit, (two boxes of every shim you could posslible need $85 - 250F shims 7.48 MM dia.or 450F 9.48 MM diameter) so when you take it down to check them if there is a problem you just took care of it while you were in there. I also have a spread sheet where you record the gaps along with the shim installed and it will tell you what new shim you need to get it in tolerance. Is there a place you can buy an assortment of shims you need to do a valve adjustment or do you have to tear it all down to check them then order which shims you need to get them in spec then tear it back down to do the work. Do most dealers keep these shims in stock? I know you need some special tools to remove the shim/bucket but I have always did this in the past and why stop now? Warranty...may be an issue but...I think I would do a better job on it than most dealers mechanics I have ever dealt with. On the 250F all I ever seen only half assed done the job right. Give me some input on this.

If you are talking about a replacement bulb for the RSV... $70?? I can say I do not know of a $70 bulb. Yamaha has them on the website for $9.31 Any H4 bulb will fit, but I would recommend staying with the same wattage to keep from overloading your charging system. 60/55 H4 Halogen Some Stealers will knock you in the head for a replacement bulb for the bike when a H4 is a pretty common thing. Sylvania Silverstar cost about $19 WALMART...Pretty good improvement over the stock bulb...Silverstar Ulta...AutoZone...even better replacement about $25. I replaced mine with an Ultra and it was a great improvement...lot more light to the sides of the road. I removed the stock bulb just looking for more light out front. PIAA or what ever make some that I think is not DOT approved but is probably the brightest around. They are about $50

Oh no...I would be sick. There is hope... If it is not cut down below the paint and even if it is...you can probably polish it where it will look pretty good. Go to the NAPA store...I guess any parts place or most any place that mixes paint for cars and has paint for cars. They should have a white finishing compound made by 3M. Shake this stuff up really good. I would not use any electric buffers or anything like that cause you can do more damage that good if you do not know what you are doing... You could cut the rest of the clear coat and color coat off or make some bad swirl marks that no wax will take off. It will burn the paint off. Take one of those micro fiber cloths and put a little bit of this stuff and lightly rub this stuff on till it gets dry and then keep rubbing, circular motions. Do small sections at a time (3-6 inches) overlapping. Take your time and go slow. You are actually removing layers of clear coat and paint to smooth out all the scratches and shine it back up. If there is any clearcoat left and even if there is none left, It will shine like new money. After you are satisfied and finished with the whole area, Get 2-3 good coats of a good wax on top of that and you will be surprized at the results. If this does not work...get you a good painter to repaint it. Do not use this stuff on a regular basis..emergency use only for scratches or destruction of the paint finish like this. Do not do that any more. Soapy water like mild dish washing liquid Palmolive/ivory (anything that is supposed to be good for your hands) or a good car wash (armor all or blue coral) will desolve bugs when you wash it. Always use only a soft cloth rinsed regularly when you wash. THROW THAT SCOTCH BRIGHT SPONGE AWAY RIGHT NOW. Best thing to do is treat the paint finish like your plastic windshield. Nothing...nothing abrasive or that is not really soft may scatch it.

Looks great...it is all about being seen... You did a good job.

Show Chrome "plastic" gas tank cover
CMIKE replied to jryan's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I like chrome as good as the other guy but...I get a reflection on the windshield from my gas tank lid. I put a leather cover over my gas cap to stop that reflection on the windsheild. I can just about expect what that chrome cover would do to me. That chrome reflection in the windshield makes me think I am looking at a holigram. -
LED's in the tail light of a 1st Gen
CMIKE replied to Saddle_Bag's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Woooohhh... I am not so sure I agree with all of that... Take this into consideration... 1. LEDs are not as bright as incandescents yet. I installed LED tail light board in my 2nd gen and it is a lot brighter than any 1157 incandescent bulb I ever seen. It will blind you to the point that you see red spots after you look away. LED technology is moving fast..they are getting brighter and brighter...I expect them to be able to replace all our lighting needs in a few years at 1/5th the power useage. From headlights to the lights in our homes. I agree those little 1157 bulbs with a few LED's on the end of them are not there yet. I purchased 2 of them and quickly put them back in the bags and they are now hanging in my shop. 2. LED's give off directional light where incandescents spread out in all directions. LED's are getting better and better. Used to they were like a pen light less than a 15 degree light pattern but now they are some 120 degree LEDs and the manufactors are using multiple 120 degree LEDS and pointing them in several directions to cover most of the needed area. 3. They set off the computer monitor because there isn't enough resistance. You may try using one of those metric load equalizers that I used on my bike to fool the turn signals into thinking they were still incandescent bulbs installed and blink at the normal rate. It is a black box that does not heat up...so I do not know what is inside it. I read no resistance on this box and it needs power to make it all happen. 4. I wasted $10 too I wasted $24 on 2 of those 1157 LED bulbs. 5. Gave up and went back to regular 1157's Don't give up. I installed a led tail light in my sons Vstar custom. I was nothing more than a board with 132 LED's on it with a 1157 plug on the end of it. You simply hot glue the board inside the tail light lense. It is really really bright. plus it has some clear LEDs pointing to act as a tag light. 6. LEDs give off weird colors. RED is RED. Amber, now that is a different story. I have some yellow looking turn signals and replaced the yellow front reflectors that were all the same color. I ordered some accent lights that were supposed to be amber but they were more orange. 7. Could try a 5 ohm resistor in the brake circuit. I think you could call Tech support at Custom Dynamics http://www.customdynamics.com/ and they could come up with a solution for you. I am not associated with them but have purchased a lot of stuff from them and their products are great. See this short movie of the back of my 2nd gen. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=32917 You can see the orginal yamaha LED's in the trunk wing and the LED's under the bags are not near as bright as the tail light and the light on the license plate frame. They are strobing also but you do not notice them since they are not as bright. Don't give up...I believe there is something that will work for the 1st gen bikes. -
I cut up an empty beer can into shims to fit the inside of both halves of the clamps. They fit tight now. I could not get the clamps back together with the rubber...maybe my rubber was to thick. I also had another issue. I carried my 3/4 wrench and a hex key set to make adjustments if needed on my first ride with them. The peds flipped up and down really easy...in fact they would flop down while not in use during the ride. I tightened the pivot point till I could easily put the pegs up or down with the tip of my boot as needed. I got back home and the clevis was cracked on both sides. . I did not really get rough with them but they are both cracked. I installed a set on the VSTAR custom and had no problems with them. I contracted the seller about warranty replacement and have not heard of the results yet.

1st ride with K&N air filters.
CMIKE replied to Joopster55's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
OK Let the cat out of the bag...what else did you do? I to have recently installed K&N air filters along with the chrome filter covers. I did not really notice any great performance gains worth writing home about. Not like I did when I installed a K&N cold air on my 4x4 pickup. I also have stock mufflers but did the drill modification for a little more sound out of them. What gives? -
See this thread the discussion covered installing a relay to carry all the load and remove it from the ignition switch. I also posted a drawing of what I did to essetially bypass load from the key switch. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=31394

New Orleans is not that far for me at all...Great I guess we can load up all our spare magazines carry our back-up guns and go on down...after all they are one of the highest crime cities around. My company moved completely out of that city due to employees were getting mugged going to the parking garage on a regular basis. This was going on almost 2 years after the Katrina and they gave them plenty of chances to get a handle on it including giving them millions of dollars. Had folks refuse to be transfered there. I refused to go to meetings down there. They built a new office and moved to the north shore. If you do go...stay alert and STAY SAFE.

Did I make a BAD mistake?
CMIKE replied to big mike's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
When I had my bike all apart installing LED light and new passing lights...I took every connector apart and applied dielectric grease on every one I could find...lower fairing, fron fairing, side covers, and under the tank. No problems at all. -
