  1. Custom dynamics. Best LED tail lights I have seen so far. They also have LED turn signals and load equalizers. Check out this link http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=32917 Read down in this link for web links to purchase parts.
  2. The bag makes it nice...other than that...it comes ready to go. You will need a really long screw driver to reach across the engine from the right to left. You also need a TACH.
  3. I check air pressure before each ride (daily if riding). I am very religious about this on my bikes and my cages. Use a digital gauge and ocassionally verify with another gauge. ( I got over 87000 miles on a set of tires on my car now) Thanks for the comments though. I think it is just the rear tire or at least it sounds like the rear only. I am a little skiddish on scrapping the floorboards just yet...maybe later...but do not want to take a chance of a crash right now. But I have noticed the sound decreases after hitting some curvy roads. At first I thought I had a bearing out and there may possibly be one out. I should be able to confirm that in a few days cause... I Got a set of E3's (both front and rear) on the way now. Anybody need a good pair of OEM 404's let me know. They got plenty of meat left on them. I will sell them cheap.
  4. 250-280 depending on what size you buy (some go smaller on the front) I just purchased a set of Dunlope Elite 3's in stock sizes for $257 delivered. Avons are a little higher Look at post #3 above and try those links to see what the actual totals will be. Southwestern Moto Tires http://arizonamoto.com/Merchant2/mer...Code=MTCYTIRES Motocycle superstore http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/ Sale going on now at Motorcycle superstore...Venturerider gets a good discount from them.
  5. You hit that one right on the head...had a time getting it all back together...another set off arms will help a bunch. Got a lot of folks that think on this site...all kinds of different solutions to common problems. Cool idea you had there.
  6. 170 is really really wide...the Vstar custom I have has a 170 and it is a wide wide back tire or at least it looks wide on that little bike.
  7. Search on this site for the Metzler tires...there are some post about more than one of them chunking rubber... I do not know for sure but may have just been a bad tire... or tires. It was enough for me to be scared of them. Seems the tire of choice here is Avons, Dunlope Elite 3 and Mich Commanders.
  8. Man...that is a tough one. According to the AVON website...they do not make a WWW in orginal front size for our bikes. Neither does Donlop in the Elite 3. Some folks here go with the smaller front tire and say it helps low speed handling...but some say it they see a degradation in handling at crusing speeds/windy conditions. Some swear by the smaller front tire...some do not like it at all. I do not have any experience with smaller front tire yet. I am staying stock sizes....as I have a new set of BW tires on order today. Southwestern Moto Tires http://arizonamoto.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=SWMT&Category_Code=MTCYTIRES does not seem to carry white walls on thier website...you may can call them to see if they offer something in WWW that will work. I think they are about the cheapest I have found. Right now Motocycle superstore http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/ is having a sale on some tires and with the Venturerider discount is a pretty darn good deal that is hard to beat if they have what you want. I purchase where they had the size I wanted. I know you are going for that certian look... Hope this helps some...Good luck finding WWW
  9. I would recommend with any portable air pump you buy especially for emergency road side use...that you test it fully before you load it on your bike. Whether it was inexpensive or very expensive. I got one in a emergency roadside kit and was using it to air up a tire once...I had it sitting on the tool box of my truck while it was working...Most of them are really slow so I was doing something else while it was running doing its thing. One thing I have learned they all get hot...some very hot. Next thing I know it was a ball of fire. It had got so hot it ingnited the plastic housing and was burning...on top of my truck tool box. Scared me to death...so leason learned...test any small portable pum before you comit to hauling it all over the world expecting it to get you out of a bind. A good test would be let the air out of one of your tires...then pump it back up with the pump...that way you know it will work when you need it. You are checking the electrical circuit (fuses correct size and wiring is ok) and the pump That way you know what to expect at least if you need it. I carry one now...and it has been tested already but I hope I never need it.
  10. Looks like it worked good...I used 1/2 aluminum for mine...little bit easer to bend. Seemed to firm everything up in there.

    LEDs and Strobe

[quote=ken;320547 Listen!! I was not trying to be an A$$, I just wanted to be sure you and other here were aware before they get in a pickle. Gosh! Sorry I did not mean to offend anyone... I didnt take it as you were trying to be an $$$. I appreciate your pointing this out. PEACE...I do not want to make any enemies or make someone feel thier opinion is less than anyone elese...we value all opinions. but...I see in the law you posted "This section does not prohibit the use of warning lights required by law or the simultaneous flashing of turn signals on disabled vehicles or on vehicles being operated in unfavorable atmospheric conditions in order to enhance their visibility. This section also does not prohibit the simultaneous flashing of turn signals or warning lights whether on farm machinery or vehicles escorting farm machinery when used on a street or highway". Do you think you might could squeeze by on this statement? Do you think maybe you could say the motorcycle is operating in unfavorable atmospheric conditions...sometimes the atmosphere we have to operate in is full of crazy cage drivers that act like they cannot see a Bike is trying to stop? I know it will get them off your tail when you touch the brake. I am trying to help where can... I am not impliing anyone should break the law.

    LEDs and Strobe

Strobe - http://www.customdynamics.com/led_strobe.htm LED tail light - http://www.customdynamics.com/Yamaha_tail_retro.htm Turn signals - http://www.customdynamics.com/yamaha_turn_signal_retro.htm Just about everytime you see a post that shows LED turn signals or brakes in action...somebody jumps in with "Against the LAW" In some states it may be against the law...in my state it is not. I studied it before installing. I think anyone can interpet it a certian way and decide it is against the law. LED lights are becoming more and more prevelant and most are DOT approved now. The stobe unit is programable...you can flip a switch and make it like a back off module...blink 3 times then steady if you want. You can change it in a second no problem. I will take the ticket rather than get run over. Most states that have laws like this do not enforce them since the cop knows you are trying to be as safe as you can. If a cop stops you for this...he is just looking for something anyway. You all know it is all about being seen on a bike. A freind of mine got hit from the rear while sitting at a red light. The light changed green and the dumb ass behind him just drove over him. This is not supposed to fix stupid but I think it will wake them up.
  14. I have the stock 404 on the rear with only 4000 miles on it and it sounds like a ground grip tire on a 4 wheel drive in the curves. Mostly if you get the tire off center it is noisy. It does not seem to be scalloped or nothing. I look at it all the time to figure out why it is making that noise. I thought something was wrong with the bike at first. (Bearing or something out) I cannot wait to get these 404's off. I am probably gonna changed them before they are worn out.
  15. I got a bottle of Loctite Moly Paste from Grainger 65% Moly $30.75 8 oz brush top can. Grainger # 5E200 Loctite number 51048 Worked really good. Got plenty left for tire changeds.
  16. Great to hear from you. Glad you are hanging in there and are OK I want you to know...we all really appreciate your sacrafice for our country. Those guys in that photo are America's best. We thank each and everyone of you and pray for the day that you all come home safely. Hang in there and stay alert. Keep your focus on what you are there to do. Many many thanks to you all. Ps we are all praying for every one of you every day. BE SAFE.
  17. My experience with race fuel We run 114 octane in our YZ250F race bikes. Usually with a straght race fuel without high compression pistons you will not see any real increase in performance with the higher octane fuels. We mixed some race fuels with perminum gas in some stock engines and had pretty good luck with them. Not that much power gain but better throttle response out of the curves or off the line. Seems premium gas is not consistant. Some race gases use alcohol to increase octane...some use LEAD. Look at the MSDS sheet to determine how they are making the increased octane. I do not like an alcohol race fuel. Now Oxygenated race fuel is a different story. It has been banned by the AMA for Motorcross due to the advange gain for the 4 stroke over the 2 stroke engine. This really makes a 4 stroke sing. But it is a nasty stuff. It is hard to store and will loose all its go really fast if not kept in a tightly sealed steel container Most of it is corrosive to aluminum and if it sit in the carbs it turns to a glue like substance overnight. We ran it for a short while and it would make a stock bike go...and go hard. But it took a while to get the fuel system straight afterwards. AMA checks oxygen content at the pro races...and standard pump gas has a slight amount of oxygenate in it and lots of pump gas will not pass thier test. Pistons melt? In my experience with dirt bikes that turn 14500 RPM if you are not using nitro or some other really bad ass stuff...I have never heard or seen a melt a piston. You will probably gald a piston first. It will look like it has melted but friction caused most of the damage not the heat from the gas. Of course you need to tune the carbs for the race gas...jetting and fuel/air mixture so and not run it to rich. A rich condition (they say) can wash the oil film off the cylinders and cause the piston to gald the cylinder. It kinda makes sense but I cannot verfy this. In a 2 stroke a lean or rich condition will take out the crank or ruin the cylinder or piston quickly. I have seen this happen on a 2 stroke many times espcially on some other brand race bikes that come from the factory set really lean. I have one of those non contact infared temperature devices I use on the starting line to check temp of the engine and radiators before and after a race. You want the engine warmed up good but not too hot. It has no fan so sitting and idling with heat it up quickly in the summer. Anyway...I have found the engine actually runs cooler with a good high octane race fuel. Surprized me also. I found this on a 2 stroke and the 4 stroke bikes. IF I were gonna dyno a RSV...I would get a good premium gas like maybe that AMOCO White gas...BP ultimate I think and try that...or what ever you have good luck with. I got a drum of 114 leaded if you want to add some to the mix just to see... $8.50 gallon it is a pretty blue color and smells funny. I would really like to hear the results of this...very interesting.
  18. Really cool mod but it is obvious you have not really looked at the Midnight RSV. They look faster just sitting still. If you try to follow one for a few miles...you will know exactly which one is faster...
  19. I think you could squeeze one inside the fairing...BUT. I would be careful. Any use for just a few minutes causes most I have seen to get hot. I had one that came with a emergency road side kit that I was using to air up a tire on my truck after I found it flat at work. Dumped some fix a flat in it and was gonna fill it up enough to get it to the tire shop. I got it running and was putting the jack that I did not use back in its location. I walked back around the truck and it was in a ball of flames sitting on top of my tool box. It had got so hot it melted the plastic around it and caught fire. Now imagine that inside you fairing or mounted somewhere on you bike. If you do this make sure it is a damn good one and run it a while to make sure it does not get hot like this one. I am not sure I would trust one mounted anywhere on my bike.
  20. WHERE DID YOU GET THAT PHOTO OF MY WIFE? I KNEW SHE WAS RUNNING AROUND ON ME... You tell Marthanel to call home right now and that I am coming up there to git her right now. Man...you better becareful..you gonna get somebody in trouble...
  21. Would you like to purchase a set of OEM 404's with just about 4000 miles on them? I read here that folks get really good milage out of the first set anyway. My wifes cousin got 18K out a rear tire and 21K out of the front on a 05 RSMV. I did not believe him till I read it here also. I will take $175 (Negotiable) for the set... you pay shipping. I would be glad to get rid of them cause I think I'm about to remove them for replacement.
  22. I have a 07 RSMV with the 404's on it. From all I read here...I cannot wait to get those tires off the bike. Only got about 4K in them now. If fact I am thinking about going ahead and swapping both now. Elite 3's or the Venoms I am going back with stock sizes. Tonight I was doing some research on which tire should buy. I have used Dunlops religously for years on all my racing bikes and had really good luck from them (we don't care about longivity dirt just don't come apart and get good traction), but I feel there is not as much infor on the Elite 3's to just go with them. Avon's have a lots of information from this site and others that indicate good luck they are a good choice. I do not know anybody personally that is running nothing but the stock 404 or Brickstones. One concern that I could not find any information on... WIDTH?... Stock tire width according to manufactor... Dunlop 404 Front and rear 6.06" (white walls are a little bit wider 6.08 and 6.05 ???) 150/80-16 71H BW 32KY-91 3.50 25.43 6.02 6/32 761 @ 41 150/90-15 74H BW 32NI-50 4.00 25.60 6.02 9/32 827 @ 41 Dunlop Elite 3 front 5.97" rear 6.02 150/80-16 71H BW 4079-89 3.50 25.54 5.97 6/32 761 @ 41 MV85B15 77H BW 4079-45 3.50 25.50 6.02 11/32 910 @ 40 Avon Venom Front 6.20" Rear 6.30" 150/80-16 71H MT3.50 3.00 - 4.00 157 6.20 637 25.10 150/90B15 74V MT3.50 3.00 - 4.00 159 6.30 645 25.40 Now that is .28" wider than stock rear. about 9/32" (over 1/4") wider than stock. I know a little over 1/8" on each side. I know there is very little room now between the stock tire and drive shaft tube. Anybody had any problems with the tire rubbing to drive shaft tube? This has me really scatchin my head. It seems they be too wide and may rub or is it the way the measure the width of the two different manufacters tires? Anybody have this issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated. What gives?
  23. I had to run over to the Parts place cause i am working on little project on my bike...Autozone...had 2 of the 6 circuit aux fuse blocks. I picked up one. $8.55 tax included if anyone is interested...I will let you have it for what I go it in...plus you pay shipping. LEt me know.
  24. I found a Buss 6 circuit fuse box that fits very nicely under the seat next to the battery...less than $10 AutoZone. JP cycles has the same aux fuse block for $44.99 ZZ38165 is the catalog number...website may have a different price. NAPA has a 10 circuit I bought. Kinda pricey also. They can usally order it over night. I have a 10 circuit that I did not use... It is a little big for under the seat. I do not need it...if you are interested.
