  1. I am not so sure that the crown of the road can cause that much more wear on one side of the tire. I think I would look for a bent axle or possibly a front fork tweeked or maybe a steering bearing wore out just to make sure. I am surprized that you would be going to the dunlop 404 after running the Avon. I am pretty sure you will see a difference in the handling of the bike. Good luck and I hope you find the problem and it is not serious.
  2. Right now, I have Mobile 1 20-40? 20-50? (Not sure) Mobile 1 first time I tried it...not exactly sure of the weight I was using 20-50 Amsoil thought I would try the Mobile 1. Final Drive...first change went with amsoil then tired a differnet amsoil (heavier)....then went to a valvaline 90 wt dino about 100 miles to see if that quite it down.. Now have a quart of Yamalube in it. I will get back to you...when I get back from Ark. Be gone 3-4 days starting at 6aM. We will meet up at my house, your house or on the Natchez trace somewhere. Ratliff Ferry. Take care and see you soon.
  3. I think I got the loudest whine...But I have never rode another RSV to compare. I can hear the chirp...as I ease into her from a stop up through about 3rd gear...but the whine takes over to dominate the noise. I always thought the whine was coming from the rear end. At highway speeds it is dominate. When you are in hilly country, climbing the hill you hear the whine as you reach the top of the hill and head down the other side...it sounds like a 5 ton truck with the geartrain meshing in and out. You can hear the chirp on the 650 custom I got. I know what it sounds like and it does not bother me. I put amsoil synthetic in the final drive...Not much difference. I tired dino valvoline for a couple of hundred miles and went to 90wt gear lube. Not much difference I did the TSB to align the final drive and seems everytime I do it...the sound changes some in pitch. I did it at 800 miles when I had to lube the drive pins and again at 5400 when I changed the tires. I actually thought maybe the Dunlop 404's were causing some of the noise. I could get the bike off center and hear the tire roar. Right now I am running yamaha lube dino in the final drive. Each time I change the final drive oil...it is black and nasty. I use Loctite 65% moly paste on my drive pins and all the splines. Availible at WW Grainger. When I change the final drive on that 650custom...the oil is so clean it is like new. Maybe the moly is getting into the final drive from the rear drive shaft spline on the venture. As I understand the drive shaft alignment can change with the way you ride the bike. In other words you can jerk and shatch it around to get the alignment to change. I will probably carry it to the dealer this winter but do not want to be without my bike this summer so I am gonna live with it for now . They are aware I have some issues...and are ready to do what ever I want them to do...I even tried to record it with a voice recording device and got most of it but there is some wind noise in with it. Bigboy you need to ride my bike to listen to my noise as well I need to ride yours to see if it is the same. WE need to get together to get this done one day. This weekend we are headed to Ark for 3-4 days...so this weekend is out. Let me know what you find out and maybe we can work together to resolve our issues.
  4. IF you are replacing the stock 404's...here is my 2 cents I just replaced the both front and rear Stock 404's on my 07 Midnight. I thought a lot about going to the smaller front tire just like you due to the clumsiness at parking lot speeds. I went with the Dunlop E3's in the stock sizes and did notice improvement in parking lot speed handling. Also better handling on the road. I would also recommend staying with stock front tire. I never imagined a tire could make such a difference in the handling of a bike. Although I have never run an Avon but I think either the Avon or E3 will be a good choice and you will feel the difference over the 404's. I was sold on both of them and the E3's were a little cheaper at the time I made the purchase. That is the only reason I have an E3 and not an Avon. I am very satisfied with the E3 and looking forward to many miles on this set. I do not think you can go wrong with either in stock sizes.
  5. I had to cut a shim out of a beer uhhh coke can to get those clamps to get tight enough to not slip. On the first set the pegs would bounce up or down if you hit a bump...they would not stay where I put them. I kept tightening them clevis bolts till I got them so I could easily flip them up or down with my toe and they stay where I put them. Took a spin to check to see if the adjustment was right for me...of course it was not exactly where I wanted them but I found the clevis cracked on both sides. They were less than a week old so I got the replaced under warranty. The new ones I have not had a problem with them. First I put the clamp bolt to the rear of the lower fairing and angled them back so they were comfortable. The clamp interfered with shifting. I then moved the bolt to the front and got them where I wanted them or close and they interferred with my lower fairing vents. I trimmed them off so all works together. Take a look. No change in lean angle. I let it over easy to make sure...floor boards then front highway bars touch first.
  6. One more thing you may consider. It really depends on where you fill you tank as to how much you are gonna put in it. I know you see those calibration stickers on the gas pumps most of the time from the deptment of something from the state you are in. I have several gas cans I use and one that I haul Race gas in. Most all have incremental marks that show how many gallons are in them. I have put 5.5 gallons to the 5 gallon mark in that thing at some gas stations and 5.25 from other places. something is wrong here. Also I have put over 16 gallons in the 14 gallon tank of my diesel car. Maybe a gallon in the nect but not over 2 gallons. What I am getting at...I do not believe the calibration is absolutely correct on these dang gas pumps. Either that or after they get the yearly calibration sticker on that pump...they go and tweek the gallons afterword.
  7. So far I have only used this paint for minor scarches and stone chips with out the clear coat. It matched so well I would have considered using it in a bigger area if needed. I am glad you shared this with us...again we learn from others experience. Thanks for the info.
  8. Welcome to the site..I am sure you will really enjoy this place....so much information shared here it will make your head spin. Rules say you need to post photos or the shiny new bike...we cannot wait to see it. WE all hope you get many smiles and many miles out of it...I am sure you will. IF you have any mechanical ablity at all and a little bit of electrical...you should be able to install these yourself. I would not let the dealer install nothing on my bike. You will have to remove windshield and split the fairing. Wire up the lights to either the high beams or low beams the choice is yours. I like mine on the low beams with a switch to run them on high beams if needed. Most here recommend installing a relay to handle the load and pick up power straight from battery (if you do this you may need to pull the tank to run the wires to the battery)...this keeps the extra load off the key switch which some has had fail and we think this accelerates key switch failure. IT is not that big of a deal...there are shop manuals here that show all the wiring diagrams so you will know what you are hooking into...high beam or low beam...and lots of post on how to split the fairing. You may want to search some of the post on the passing lights...and see some install different lights than what comes with the Venture passing light kit...some use some other Vstar or Road star lights that look better and are brighter. I am not real sure about this. Again welcome to the site...we are all family here...you included. :TEAL: Oh yeah...remember the Midnight bikes are the fastest
  9. Sound like the famous dry drive pins in the rear end. Mine made that noise at 700 miles. You could hear it also when backing into a parking place. Pretty easy to fix just have to remove the rear wheel and thier are lots of post here on exactly what to do about it. Put it on a jack and roll the back wheel and see if the sound is coming from the rear wheel. you need to get that resolved...riding season is apon us.
  10. I can imagine it is like herding cats most of the time.
  11. You ought to be able to use an amp meter to find this...I mean digital ampmeter not one like you see in the dash of a car but a test meter in series with the positive lead from the battery or a clamp on that will read a really low scale of amps or milliamps in DC. You ought to be able to see if anything is draining the battery while it sits. Finding where the drain is coming from may be more of a problem. I am just wonder if your key switch is not causing some of this problem. Do you remove the key when you park the bike for a long time? I know I have left mine in the ACC position not realizing it...and killed the battery. IT could be there is a short in your key switch also. You know they are a known problem with the RVS 2nd gen but they are mostly just make it not start. That amp meter will tell you if you are draining the battery. Find that out first then go look for the problem by pulling fuse till you find the circuit that is draining it.

Check the AMA website http://www.amadirectlink.com/legisltn/laws.asp I am not positive it is all correct but do not know any instance where it is wrong. Most states talk about "communcation only" like GA, " No Restrictions" like Alabama and some say something like if they are "Helmet mounted OK"
  13. Violate the gun safety rules...good chance you will get hurt/killed if you do. Never never point a firearm and anything you are not wlling to destroy. He must of wanted to destroy his head if he pointed it at his head. Keep your finger off the trigger till you are ready to shoot. I do not think that guy was ready to shoot hisself in the head. Modern firearms that are in servicable condition do not go off by theirself. The trigger has to be pulled for it to shoot. Most modern servicable firearms will not fire if you drop them. Must pull the trigger for them to fire. Know your target and what is beyond it. This means clearly and positively identify your target. Not shooting at shadows or outlines of what you think it your target. I do not think he thought of his head as a target. Treat all firearms as if they were loaded. Treat them all this way whether loaded or not. You always win if you do this. There is another one that says "always keep your gun unloaded". I do not agree with this one cause if you need a firearm...an unloaded gun is gonna get you killed. If you have small kids then do what you need to protect them...lock it up or something. I had an unloaded gun with me and a guy jumped in the truck at a red light in New ORleans. He could have killed me before I got the gun loaded. Luckly he got out when the gun came out. Never again will that happen. I could tell you some stories that I have witnessed involving LEO and firearms that would surprize most of you. Many of them do not know how to properly handle firearms. Not bashing LEO's just I guess I expect them to know how to handle firearms since they carry one for a living. They are supposed to be professionals with a gun so I expect it.
  14. Seems if you do not have a supply of ammo now...it may be a while before you find enough to do any stocking up for yourself. Primers and bullets for certian calibers are kinda hard to find in my area. Loaded ammo for certian calibers can be found but others are kinda tricky to find. (45ACP) If you do find those tricky ones they are asking 2 prices for it. I have enough to do me but I am having to split between maintaining my skills and depleting my supply. Seems I shoot more than I can easiliy find to replace my stock right now. You gotta to maintain your muscle memory or you loose the skills.
  15. Check this link out... Good info here. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=30996
  16. REALLY nice. I never thought I would look at pulling a trailer...you guys keep showing me stuff like that...I may dive right in. That is a smooth looking trailer. Hey and it is even the right color. I am not even gonna ask what it cost. Knowledge of the the price may ruin it for me.
  17. Barons make some 1 1/2" riser extention. http://www.baronscustom.com/catalog/display/777/index.html You may can search around and find them a few dollars cheaper... Stock cables work with these. Take a look at this link for stuff you may need to know about these http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=35603
  18. Glad for you. I hope you have many happy miles on the new bike. That wider back tire on the new ones really looks a lot better to me. Always glad to see someone with a new bike. Con grats to you. Great looking bike. I am surprized they were willing to deal on thier bikes. I have yet to find a Harley dealership (out of the 3 I tired) that is not an ******* and thinks the Harleys are Gods gift to man, then try to nickel and dime you to death plus the straight MSRP. I can just imagine trying to get service from them if I happen to have a problem. Not to mention last week going through that Riders Edge safety class (put on by Harley)last week and they treated us all like sub humans since none of us owned a Harley. That was the final straw for me. If I had not paid $300 each for my son and me, I would have walked out training complete or not. All that gave me a pretty bad taste in my mouth about the whole line of bikes and the dealers.
  19. Give us the name of this place...we may want to go by there on our summer trips and give them some business...You know buy a pair of gloves or a new tire. We need to reward dealers that still understand customer service and do what is right. That seems to be a rarity now days. Most dealers are all about them...not the customer. Glad you had good luck.
  20. Black light LED's...where you find them? I always liked a black light. I need to see them.
  21. I also have a one of the sears jacks. I looked at both and the yellow one seemed to me to be built a little better. I have a yellow one. I have had zero problems with it.
  22. Take a look at my profile...Most all Custom dynamics stuff... also see this link to a movie of the rear end LEDs http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=32917 You can't go wrong with any LED's added to the rear end of the RSV not matter who sales them or where you get them from. Some are better than others but they all look good in my opinion.
  23. I am not aware that Barons makes but one riser extentions for the beloved RSV. I have the 1 1/2" from Barons Lets just say I have not seen any but the 1 1/2" Barons do not show any bigger or smaller ones on thier site. http://www.baronscustom.com/catalog/display/777/index.html I am 5'7" and installed a set on my bike...they really helped take that knot out of my shoulder blade. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/album.php?albumid=276&pictureid=1937 There are a few issues you may need to know about before you order them. 1. I never knew finding that sweet spot for my bars would be so hard. After I installed these riser extentions...I moved the bars about 2 dozen times till I found that sweet spot for me. I hauled the allen wrenches for a while to get this done. 2. You need 3 hands to install these riser extentions. Lifting the bars and gettting the risers in place...is a trick...it can be done with 2 hands but it goes a lot easier if you had some help. 3. You may have to re-route the throttle cable. I had a problem with mine not really sticking...just not returning after you let it go. I re-routed it about 3-4 times till I got this resolved. You will probably have to adjust some of the other stuff wires, clutch and brake hose. Cut some tyraps and re-install them to get enough slack so all will be happy in there together. 4. Those rubber things that are supporting the fairing now...some folks toss them but I felt they are there for a purpose and built extensions for them. so you decide what you want to do. If you are 5'7...and knowing how it helped me...I would recommend them.
  24. WAIT...Wait... Where did you get photos of my bike with the seat off? Did my wife send them to you? If those are not photos of my bike with the seat off...dang it looks just like it.
  25. Ok...just completed the 2nd night of the class...I went along as well as I could trying on the motor clothes. News flash I wear a XXL helmet???? What? I have 4 helments and they are all MED. :think:This is what the expert staff tells me is my helment size. I also wear a medium riding jacket...I could not breath but that is what they say I wear. Never mind that the riding jackets I own are larges. Also I learned that the stuff in the Harley dealership is a better quality that you can buy any where else ( internet or other brand dealerships included) thus it cost more. Do they really think we are that stupid? Oh yeah...Feild Sheer makes that rain suit they were so up on selling the whole group. Also those boots are made in China. I really hope the range tommorrow is worth at least a little of my time. So far totally discusted. I just hope my boy gets something out of this training and it makes him a safe street rider. I have kept my mouth shut in front of him about the agrevation. I got to lay down...I got a head ache for sure.
