I also liked the idea of the calibration... If you let it sit for a few days...all that separation will go away. It does not seem to like to be moved around much. Hang it up when you store it and it will be ready to use when you need it. I do not think it matters which port you connect for calibration. They all should be fairly close. I had trouble checking the sync at higher RMPS also...had to be real careful or it would try to suck the fluid in... If I were you I would see if I could exchange it for some gauges or get your money back. I just did not have good luck with those.

I have one of those from Motion Pro...calibrate it will all the tubes connected together with the supplied T. I used it a few times and it seemed to work pretty good, then it got to where it would not calibrate. One of the screws that you used to calibrate it would not turn enough to get the tubes all at the same level. I hung it up in the back of my shop (should have thrown it away) and bought a Morgan Carb Tune. I should have done that in the first place but decided it was to expensive with shipping. http://www.carbtune.com/ Morgan Carb tune seems to work pretty good, but If I had it to do the third time I would probably find 4 analog gauges to use.

I took a riders course with my 17 year old son put on by the local Harley shop. They supplied the buell blast for us to ride. It reminded me of lawm mower engine. sounded just like one while idleing. Vibrate and shook like a Harley. I knew after a day of riding it...I surely did not ever want to own one, June of 2008 I purshased a VSTAR Custom Midnight brand new from the dealer down in Brookhaven Ms for $4800 plus tax. I rode it for about 4000 miles just to see if the wife and myself were gonna like the street rides. Not real comfortable but we added Mustange Seats and that helped a lot. Now my 17 year old boy rides it. REally a nice little bike. Easy to ride and would recommed to anyone. Check around on the prices...I bet you can get a 09 pretty cheap if you look. Heck Call Bardwell Yamaha...he ships all over the country. 1-800-952-4270. If he aint got it...he will get it. Talk to Bubba.

I already replaced my 32 LED with the new 100 LED tail lights. It is wonderful. Lot brighter. I have had nothing but good luck with all the stuff I bought from custom dynamics. Really good folks to deal with as far as I was concerned. Answered all my questions and helped out when I was trying to come up with some new ideas for my bike. If you got any trouble...need to call them, I think they would work something out with you. Mention this site. Sorry you had trouble. I was just kinda upset they did not offer this 100 LED unit at first.

Stuck Valve on 2007 Royal Star Venture
CMIKE replied to a topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Please let us know what dealer you have your bike at... We do not want to get caught up in that stupidity. That is a clear warranty issue. -
Hey that is pretty cool. What about if they were reflective...to add to the safety of each of our members. They do make Black reflective material...that works good and looks good to..

I cut a shim from a beer uhh coke can and made a shim. Take a little silicon to hold it in place till you get it where you want it. Tightened right up then. I can stand up on mine now...they do not move.

Oh...so you got one of the faster ones. I used plain old water and Blue Corral Car wash. Blow it off with some compressed air and wipe it all off with a big ole towel. Wax her down with NuFinish, RainX or Megrurs wax. Step back and watch the Black Betty sparkle. I am sure you will benefit from all the information here. Lots of crazy folks with a lot of knowledge about the Venture and Tour Deluxe. You will enjoy your time here. :TEAL:

What do these plugs say
CMIKE replied to BuddyRich's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
When I looked at the photos...I thought they looked good...then all this stuff starting flying. I thought maybe I am gonna learn something here. I am always willing to learn something new and I did about the injecting Sea Foam in the vacuum ports. I do not think there is problem with the plugs to warrant this from these photos. I am not a mechanic but have looked a many spark plugs on racing dirt bikes trying to get the carb adjusted right (jetting, Fuel/Air mixture). They are kinda finicky about temperature. elevation and modifications. -
Man that would be a hard one to answer. I think I need to see what it looks like first and what they changed. If it looked anything like the Victory Vison...they could keep all of them. I would ride mine till the wheels fell off. http://www.polarisindustries.com/en-us/Victory/2009/Touring/Victory-Vision-Tour-Premium/Pages/features.aspx What were they thinking on this one?

Back last year about June...I was in the same place you are now. I was told by a couple of dealers there was an upgrade for 2009 (no more cassette, Fuel injection totally redesigned bike). I was absolutely positive they were upgrading for 09. I even called Yamaha and a lady would not tell me they were not upgrading...but told me I would not be dissappointed... I had my mind pretty much made up... I was gonna buy a Yamaha if it did not look like a space ship. I was waiting for the 2009 bikes to come out... I was saving my money and getting ready to make that purchase as soon as they hit the show room floor. I was checking the website daily for the anouncement of the new models. Well the 09's came out and they did not change a dang thing from the 1999 model. I was so teed off. I called the dealer and told him I was so upset wtih Yamaha..I hoped they had to eat every single one of those 09 bikes. I told him not to bother getting one in his shop cause he was gonna have to eat it cause the public was so ticked off about the 99/09 (1999 same as 2009) model bike. Then I got over it...about a month later. I went to looking for a left over 99/08...they all the same, so what difference did it make about the year model? I wanted a black (Midnight) one. 07 was the last year they made a black bike. I talked to a painter about painting a charcoal 08 black. Got a price and I was gonna take it apart and haul the parts to him for painting. Then I thought that was a stupid idea. I started looking at used bikes. I found several mindights...the were so high...dang. I got to thinking...there has got to be a 07 left over still in the show room brand new. I called the dealer and ask him get me one. He came back with there is none. I sulled over that a few days...then called him back again. I told him I do not believe there is no 07 midnight bikes in this United States...some where. Well come to find out...he only looked in the area where he was willing to go get a 07 for me. I told him if he will find it I will go get it... He found 3. one in Texas...one in Kentucky and one somewhere else (I don't remember). These were never titled. I asked him to check on that one in Kentucky. He did and they were more than willing to get rid of it. It had 19 miles on it. The last day of September of 08, I took a day and a enclosed trailer and picked it up in Kentucky after he did a dealer transfer. The bike had a dead battery and was covered with dust in a back warehouse. The little dealer there could not sell it so he moved it out of his show room to make room for 4 wheelers. My dealer let me have it at his cost. It was a really good deal. Today I have a 99/07 with 6700 miles and could not be happier. I will believe any rumors about an upgrade when I see the 2010 bike. I even heard since the sales were down on all brands of bikes that they were suspending any development on new models cause they were not sure they could sell them. They are reducing production on some models due to low sales volume also. Not sure I will run to the dealer and buy a 2010 at least till it is on the road a while. Especially since I got mine just like I want with all the safety chrome and all the toys on it. I suspect the 2010 will resemble the Gold Wing...cause Honda is their direct competion. It may be a mix of that new KAW touring and the Gold Wing with a heafty price tag. I really hope they do bring out a new model RSV at least for your sake anyway. I hope you get you one soon. Oh yeah if nobody has told you yet...Welcome to the site...you will really enjoy it here. :TEAL: Got a question...just ask...lots of knowledge here about a lot of stuff... Good luck on finding a bike.

WE just got back from there about a week ago. We went straight to Harrison Ark. Staying in the Holiday inn Express in Harrison...Great hotel very nice and they gave us some brochuses of about 8 loops in the ozarks. Tells you how many curves, how many miles and how long it will take you. They are very motorcycle freindly. Let you park your bike under the covered drive right out front. We went down Hyw 7 on the way home to Hot springs. Again we stayed at the Holiday Inn Express. They had towels to wipe off your bike. We came across from Mississippi and was gone 2 nights and 3 days. Really good trip.

But Diamond R is some really nice folks and they sell one also.

661 core cooler. We use these in motorcross. Soak them in water and they expand this jelly like stuff inside. They sit on your shoulders and around your neck like shoulder pads...cool you off. http://www.gmo1.com/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=661-1513Ywp&click=2 I have seen Fire fighters and paramedics use these. We put them in an ice box with ice and put them on the riders before a race during the hotest times of the racing season.

I have a new 660 and am very pleased with it. I am not using a headset YET. I have no problems hearing the radio, don't see a need for the CB YET. The wife and me does not have problems taking to each other. I am not sure how the wind noise is gonna effect the mics on the intercome system. I plan on getting a head set but not right now. 6700 miles so far without one... Mine seems to link up blue tooth just fine and it looked like all 935 phone numbers (work phone) are availible on the 660. It takes a minute or two to sync up. I usually put my phone on the gas tank while I am getting ready to ride to let it do its business while I am getting ready to go. I make a test call to my voice mail to make sure it is finished linking up. If I hear the voice mail over the 660 I am good to go. I keep my phone in my pocket and I do not use the phone while I am riding. It is really handy to see who is calling on the Zumo so if it may be important I can pull over to return the calls. Before the zumo...I used a blue tooth Jawbone with noise assasin that worked good if I wanted to answer the phone while riding. Voice was not crystal clear but pretty darn good to the caller. They did not know I was on a bike. I am on the phone so much at work...I will just about wont answer one even if I am stopped. with the headset I could not tell who was calling so that was not good. I plan the routes and dump them into the Zumo with the PC software. The software that came with it seems a little akward but maybe I have not figured out all the tricks of it yet. Harley has a trip planner on the web that is eaiser...but is a BETA and it will crash and trashes your routes if you do not save them to a thumb drive or something when you get them like you want. It is pretty good for picking those back roads and staying away from big city traffic and interstates If you let the Zumo pick the routes...it seems to like to ride the interstate all the time. I hate the superslabs. I follow the routes pretty close but I picked the roads...mostly 2 lane back roads. I did have it lock up once after I got it to detour around a railroad crossing construction. I just pressed the off button and back on...it picked up where I left off on my route. I use the Aux port of the bikes audio system for my XM radio and did not connect the Zumo to the audio system on the bike. I put a splitter under the fairing and ran it out to the XM Roady. I was not sure how the volume on both the XM and Zumo was gonna pan out together. I was hoping the cable Buddy builds might resolve that but he said it would not help in this case. I have found I do not need to hear anything the zumo says...I just glance at the screen to see when and where I need to turn next. I have not tried to use the MP3 player part of it yet. I have no use for it really. I have been carrying a Ipod nano before the Zumo and swap the jack from XM to Ipod if I use it. I really like the Bluetooth function. We usually stop the bike when we are ready to hunt a hotel. Find a hotel in the area with Zumo we may want to stay at...let the 660 dial the number...talk through the 660 to ask about vacancy and room rates then...press the GO and it leads me to the hotel. Heck I may just be too stupid to realize there is a problem. I have had the small hand held GPS units before and used them for hunting. This is the first GPS with a Screen I have ever had. What is broke on it? What is the problems with the software? I have not been to the Zumo forum yet...and may not till I find a problem I cannot resolve. I know you were asking for a 660 using the buddy rich cable and I am not using one YET.

Dang...what a mess... Oh I see you got a blue tarp...they were very fashionable for a while after KAtrina and IKE. Sorry to hear about your house. I really hate that happen. I guess you could look at the good side...you can rebuild back better than every. Maybe add some extra decoration to the deck that maybe you have been thinking about for a while.

I have the new Garmin 660. I love it. I updated the maps when I got it and it did take a while. I started late at night and it was done when I got up the next morning. Not sure how long it took. No viruses in that version but it is good to know it is a possiblity. I will be buying the lifetime maps through the AMA purchase program when my 60 day free map update runs out. I think it is $89. I think it is well worth it with all the contruction and new roads I like the availible features of the Garmin over the others. I really like the lane assist and the blue tooth to my phone. We can stop look for a hotel and call them to check prices and availbility with out removing my phone from my pocket. It synced all my phone numbers from my phone to the garmin so I can make and recieve calls through the Garmin. I do not answer or use the phone while rolling but I guess you could if you had to. At least you can see who is calling and pull over if it is important. I do not like the PC software that came with it. (maybe I have not learned all the tricks about it yet) Harley has a trip planner on line that is easier to use but it will screw up or loose your saved routes you build so save them to your hard drive as soon as you get them like you want them. I created a +900 mile trip and only 36 miles was on a interstate. All 2 lane senic routes. All worked very well. One more tip...at you add waypoints zoom in to make sure you get the waypoints on the actual road...no beside it. This casuses some confusion when traveling and it says you will turn in 3 miles and there is no turn. It wants you to go to the that waypoint you placed 200 yards off the road. http://www.harley-davidson.com/wcm/Content/Pages/Ride_Planner/Ride_Planner.jsp?locale=en_US Sorry you had trouble with Garmin. They should help you out on that one for sure.

Any tips for cutting into helmet to fit speakers
CMIKE replied to dogman's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
I am not sure I would modify the helment. I think you need to think about the risk you are imposing on yourself. These helments are designed, tested and cerified to protect your noggin. Any modification could decrease that protection or cause it to crack in an accident. I understand you are just modifing the inside foam lining but that is to spread the impact across a larger area to help protect you. I think I would look for other speakers that would fit better... As long as you understand the risk and are willing to accept that risk... Go for it and good luck. Not telling you what to do...just want you to consider the possible consiquenses. I would hate for you to get injured due to a modification of a helment. Good luck and I hope it works out. -
2009 RSV Top Heavy Question
CMIKE replied to DonWood's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Ohhh...I hate to hear that. I am sick for you...I so glad to hear you are alright. It makes me sick that your brand new bike is busted up. I know you are really disappointed. I really hope they get you back on the road soon. There is so much pleasure ahead of you with the new bike. Just a thought...You may want to add some lights to the rear of that bike to try to prevent that from happening again. This is the first mod I did to my bike...I did not think there was enough lights on the back end of it at all.... Some here say this may be illegal in some states but I will take my chances if they will not run over me. This LED tail light and the strobe unit seems to wake them cages up. Kinda of a two stage "wake up cage I am stopping" It may be my imagination but it seems that a quick flash of the strobe unit seems to back off the tailgaters also. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=32917 -
New LOUD gear whine - opinions?
CMIKE replied to BigBoyinMS's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
How much shim did you put in...or did you at all? Now exactly how did you come up with how much shim you needed? I saw that post where a dealer did a guys bike here but seems he said after a certian point a rear end replacment was in order and done regularly. Good information you have shared so far. -
You are exactly right...Looks very similuar. WE are headed to Eastern Tenn on the bike very soon. We go there yearly in the fall in a cage, stay in a cabin for a few days. The cabin where we always stay...has a very steep driveway...not sure I can get the bike up there...my little car had a tough time last year. We will have to find another cabin.

2009 RSV Top Heavy Question
CMIKE replied to DonWood's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I been there where you are now. This RSV is the first big bike I ever owned. Last September...I was very intimidated by its size and mass. I am 5'7" 175lb. 30 inch inseam. I thought very seriously about leveling links...raising the rear...changing front tire size...all kinds of stuff to help the parking lot speed handling. From what I found here and other places...most of the time there is a down side to most all these mods. I got the seats done by the Butt Butler and that helped me flat foot now. I changed the tires from the stock 404's to the Dunlop E3, this made a surprizing difference. I am sure the Avons would do the same. Mostly I believe the 6000 miles in the saddle was the best mod to help the handling. Ride the bike...take it easy and do not be afraid. You may drop it at some point. I dropped mine early on...and got it out of my system. The worst thing I worry about now is my passenger moving around as I stop at a red light or while I am swinging her around to park somewhere. Even a MSF school beginner or experienced rider will do anybody some good with a lot of tips on handling. Do not be afraid to go to a beginner class even if you have been riding for years...You will learn something. You will get it...it just takes seat time. -
We are back and SAFE. We got back yesterday from our first road trip on the venture. I was very pleased at the comfort, space for all the stuff we needed and the performance of the bike. Thanks to all of you for all the advice on packing and bike maintenance items...tips and tricks. We tried to leave Thrusday at 6AM but the weather did not look good. There was a lot of weather on the Mississppi river that we were gonn have to cross to get to ARK. The front passed Thrusday night and we attempted to leave again at 6 AM only to find a mist of rain Friday morning. Waited till about 9 AM and got on our way. I just got a Zumo 660 and had the whole route mapped out and loaded in the Garmin. IT worked great for fuel, lodging and keep us going in the right direction. We made the whole trip and only 41 miles were on the interstate so we could really see the countryside. Crossing the Mississppi delta was quite a drag...miles and miles of flat straight roads with nothing but corn or soy beans. We went north and crossed the river at Helena on Hwy49 with the first night destination of Harrison ARK. 450 miles the first day...made it fine thanks to the Butler mods on the seats. I forgot to put on the sunscreen the first day..now my face is falling off. ARK seems to be a very bike friendly state. No Helment law (which is OK with me...it should be your choice to wear a helment not the govements, I always wear mine) and lots of signs posted that say "Look twice save a life...motorcycles are everywhere". Roads were all very good also. Holels we stayed at were biker friendly with towels avalible to wipe off your bikes and they give you maps of senic rides in the areas telling you where fuel is availible and how many curves are on that route. We rode the ozarks down to Hot springs on Hwy 7 and stopped for the night in Hot Springs. We walked the city over and looked at all we could there also. One thing...seems folks don't know how to parallel park in Hot Springs. We had a friend of ours with us on a Ultra Classic so both the bikes were parked on the street same as about 300 more bikes, while we were eating. A lady trying to parallel park in pulled up close to the ultra and turned her front tire getting ready to back into the parking place and hit the Harley with her tire...almost turning it over and into mine. No damage and luckly we were right there. 5 minutes later a truck pulled in the parking place in front of the bikes and missed my fender by at least 1 inch. Then could not get the truck straight and backed toward the bikes 6-8 times with-in 6 inches. We had to go after that. We did not get to finish our lunch. Seems if we kept them rolling, we had more control over what happens. Trip back was great...we came back south and crossed at Greenville MS...again miles and miles of flat farm land with nothing to see. It was like walking on a treadmill..same seanery for hours. We made it back about 3:30 yesteday...Safe and sound. 992 miles later and ready to go again. We will go back but not across the MS delta. Not many photos...but we will do better next time. Wife claims she was too busy holding on...to take photos:rotf:

Try WW Grainger for the Shim stock. My company buys it from then when they need it. They may have some Brass and Stainless steel in stock. REally interested in what you find out. -
Avon Venom tire wear questions?
CMIKE replied to jarrejx's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I am not so sure that the crown of the road can cause that much more wear on one side of the tire. I think I would look for a bent axle or possibly a front fork tweeked or maybe a steering bearing wore out just to make sure. I am surprized that you would be going to the dunlop 404 after running the Avon. I am pretty sure you will see a difference in the handling of the bike. Good luck and I hope you find the problem and it is not serious.
