No problems...the 1999 is identical to the 2010 bike except the color. This is what we call the 2nd gen bike. We believe the 2nd gen is the most comfortable bike on the road. You will probably need a drivers back rest and some foot pegs for the mini crash bars on the lower fairing. I am 5'7" with a 30 inseam...180 lbs and have no problems handing the bike. I had one of our members here Rick Bulter work on my seat to improve the comfort even more and allow both feet to touch the ground included my heals. We are all waiting on the fuel injection...and the Gen 3 venture...supposed to change the design. I have an 07 midnight...which is like the 2010 Black. I bought it new in 2008 after the new 2009 came out and they did not change a thing on the Venture again. So it does not make any difference what year model you have on the 2nd gen...99 to 2010 all the same bikes...they all even have a Cassette player. All Brands of bikes have thier problems...this one is no exception...mostly the whine on the straight cut gears on the clutch basket and some have a rear end whine. Sometime when the dealers install passing lights they over load the key switch and it will go out after a few years. The V 4 engine is based on the VMAX engine and is solid as a rock. It needs to rev...not lope around like a Harely. Keep the RPM up on the highway and you will be very surprized how much power is in the 1300 cc engine. The venture has a 5 year warranty that covers everything except tires brake shoes and clutch disk... stuff that wears out. Welcome to the site...best 12 bucks you will ever spend...folks are really friendly and love to get together to meet and eat. Just about every week somebody is having a get together. There is about 9000 members here so far. :TEAL: WE love the 1st and 2nd gen Ventures. PS I cannot wait till the Strato liner deluxe comes out either.

Amazing First Gen in Reno listed on Ebay
CMIKE replied to george0fthejungle's topic in Watering Hole
For a 27 year old bike...dang it looks good. I would like to have that old girl. What years had the 2nd gear problem? What years had the frame breaking problem? I was thinking I need something else to work on...so "Buy a 1st Gen". I think this would be the perfect one to work on. Looks like nobody has screwed it up yet so it would be a good one for me. -
You know every time I see someone park in the handicap parking and get out and walk in to Walmart...I look for a handicap sticker or tag on thier car. I see it all the time...these Strapping young men with muscles poking out and arms as big as my legs...that look like they just come back from the Gym ,get out of the car in a handicap space and go into an store. Probably still got thier gym clothes on with a towel around their neck. Most common folks are quick to pass judgement on this guy whether his is actually disable or doing like a lot of folks...working the system cause they want to lay on thier lazy A__ and draw a check for doing nothing. The guy looks fine to me...why in the hell is he parking in the handicap parking spot. What we fail to realize, is we do not know all the facts. Most of us are not medical doctors capable of determining who is disable or not. Even doctors can determine disability status by site alone. This Strapping young guy I described above is a Vet that lost his legs in Iraq and had just came from the gym to stay in shape. He has artificial legs and has adapted very well and hardly has a limp at all. He is a good friend of mine. Everyone needs to tend to thier own business and do not pass judgement till you know all the details. What goes around comes around. If you working the system to get over then your day will come. Sure there is a lot of folks working the system and there is a lot that need to be on disablity that have a hard time getting on it. My dad before he died is one. He had some problems (heart valve replacement then cancer) and the doctors would not release him to go back to work. He at 58 thought he was fine and desperately wanted to go back to work. We could not get him on disablity or any assistance from Social Security. He had no income and I supported him finically and other wise for 5 years. He cut grass, washed and painted houses trying to make ends meet. Finally his cancer came back and it killed him that time. I am still pissed at the system for denying him what he paid into all his life.

Cool ride. I have a 08 Vstar custom Midnight. Mustang Seat, Sissy bar and luggage rack with winshield and crash bars. Set of Long horn foot pegs on the crash bars. LED tail light with stobe and LED turn signals. Dont forget the air horn. My son kinda inherited it. Sweet little ride.

:doh:I guess the OFF and Road threw me OFF.

here they are...pricey but available http://www.motorsportssupercenter.com/pages/catalogs/detail/26/198/398/20081/1/0/0/1/4/90/69/35535/billet-air-cleaner-covers.aspx I think you can cut the stock filter so it will fit...They are not made for the stock filter. They make a world of difference in the appearance of the RSV in my opinion.
-
I did too...bought the Yamaha Chrome filter covers and used the recommended K&N filters for the covers.
-
IMHO That is where I would NOT use the K&N filters. Rhinos, ATVs, Motocross bikes. Definitely not.
-
I could not really tell the difference in my 07 RSMV except for the chrome covers that I bought with them. I put a stock replacement on my VW Jetta Diesel and got a couple more MPG out of it. That put it at 53 MPG. Not much it any performance.

adjusting valves on my 2004
CMIKE replied to ffjoe's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Try going around again and line up on TDC. I never did it on a Venture but on a YZ250F...the crank will line up on the TDC mark but you are really not on TDC till you go around again on the crank and then stop on the TDC mark. You might try removing the plug and stick a wooden dowel rod in the spark plug hole touching the top of the piston...that way you can be sure you are at TDC when on the TDC mark in the timing window. I am sure folks that have actually adjusted the valves on the Venture will set you strait. -
risers and throttle cables
CMIKE replied to atlm's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I re-routed mine almost a dozen times before I found that sweet spot. I do not remember which combination worked but it is smooth as glass not lock to lock with the handle bars. Keep trying and you can do it. Some folks had no trouble at all...they just dropped in the risers and all worked fine. With mine the throttle would stick against the lock hard right. You could roll the throttle off with ease but I was scared of it and kept working on it. Finally got it. Take a break and work on it tomorrow. you will get it. -
Mine had a 90 degree on the rear of the RSV from the factory. Have not ever had a problem with gauge I ever used. I use a Slime digital that works great. In fact I have several of them...car, truck and bike. Is this some after market super duper stuff you found? If so thanks for the heads up. I need to watch out for that when I change out mine on the rear.

No sense in riding 1/2 mile to stand around a freeze to death. Not even far enough to get the bike warmed up. Maybe a little over a 1/4 mile.

You are correct...they do not work that way when they have to flash...since the lighter loads make the blinker blink faster. you have to install load equalizers or electronic flashers to keep current flash rate. You can add other LEDs for other lights except you turn signals and there is minimal load added to your system. How much will you save...negotiable depending on what type of load equalizers or flashers you use.

I guess I am surprised your suspension still holds air. 2nd gen Front fork Max pressure 50 KPA = 7.25 PSI Rear shock MAX pressure 400 KPA =58.01 PSI

IF and only if you are running the stock tires...in the exact size and brand that came on the bike. Not wanting to split hairs here but you need to pay attention to the side wall of the tire for MAX inflations. Example Owners manual says rear stock tire on my 07 RSV Dunlop 404 should be inflated to 41 PSI. I installed a Dunlop E3 and the MAX sidewall pressure is 40 PSI...so If I do what the owners manual says...I would be running it over MAX Pressure although only by 1 PSI...Most guages are not accuarate enough to tell 1 PSI...but I use digital gauges to get as close as I can. From all I have read here on this forum...I would not risk my life with a Metz tire. I have never owned one but not sure I would risk riding with one. With all that can happen when you ride...why would you risk a tire that is known to have problems?

Second Gen. (and First Gen.) Clutch Spring Kit Shipping!
CMIKE replied to skydoc_17's topic in Watering Hole
Don't sweat it. We will find your house and come see you. Some of the folks here know how to use baseball bats on knee caps. Great opportunity for a road trip also. Just kidding...:rotfl:Don't hurt yourself on mine...get the parts at the best price so you can still make a profit for your trouble. Thanks again for going to the trouble of getting them together and offering this to the group. Black Betty thanks you too. -
Not me...I had saved enough money and could have paid for a HD before I bought the RSV. (don't have it now) I rode a couple of my buddies Ultras for a couple of days. Wife hated the heat on her feet...and they did not seem to be smooth on the road. She really liked a White Screaming eagle we saw at the dealer. It was a very very pretty bike. It had 3500 miles on it (Dealer demo) and they were pretty much stuck on close to $35,000 plus tax and set up fees. No way in hell I was gonna pay that for a used bike...or a new bike unless I really really liked it. It was eye candy but then I found out about the maintenance charges. I was very upset with Yamaha at the time since they did not upgrade the RSV...and was looking at everything on the market. Local Honda dealer would not let me sit one of two new Gold Wings off the center stand, so I dismissed it also. Would I swap my RSV for a new design RSV? It is really according to what it looked like and how it rode. I probably will stand on the side lines for a few years till I found more about how the new design held up...and the let the bugs come out before I would jump. The 07 Midnight is a great bike for me. I am very pleased with it and glad I choose it as my ride.
-
Yep...you know the Midnight bikes are always the fastest...

YES highly recommend them. I had the 32 LED before they came out with the 100 LED...the 32 was great. I just had to have the 100 LED...twice as good. Custom Dynamics also has the 3 LEDs for tag lights. I have the LED turn signals also. All thier LED's are high quality in my book. Good tech support also, if you run into a problem. Here is a utube video of mine with the 32 LED and a strobe unit on it... [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QooBZjPbB78]YouTube- Venture Strobe[/ame]

Dunlop E3's or Avon stock size...better mileage...handling than any stock tire Yamaha put on the RSV. I went with the Dunlop E3's since they were a little cheaper and now have over 10K on them. They are holding up really well for me. I need to measure the tread depth to see if I can estimate how many miles I will get out of them, based on the wear so far.
