Inexpensive (Cheap) XM Radio? Roady2 v. RoadyXT?

I use the Roady 2. I use a RAM mount to hold it to the handle bars. I use a FM injector to get the audio into the audio system of the bike. The Injector can be purchased as just about any car audio store. http://www.myradiostore.com/fmmodulators/audiovox-fm-direct-adapter-xmfm1.html Several companies make them. You set the FM transmitter on your Roady2 to play on any channel you want...say 88.3 and tune your FM radio to a preset of 88.3. No interference from any other station since it injects it directly into the FM radio. The FM antenna connects to this box as does your existing Sat radio antenna. Some of them may shut down all other FM stations on you FM radio...so you may have to turn off the XM completely to hear the FM radio. I have these units in all my cars/trucks to work with my one XM roady 2 I use a Ipod on the aux connections to get it into the audio system. I have a Zumo 660 and elected not to have the voice into the system. I never use the voice when I am using the GPS in the car. I hate it when I make a wrong turn according to it...and listen to all that chatter till I get back on route. I simply glance at the GPS once in a while to determine if I am on the right route or how far till the next turn. -
2006 RSTD: Increasing the rear lighting

There is all kinds of stuff out there, some is really bright (some not so bright) and works great. The LED technology is moving fast and they are getting brighter. Most any lights you add are gonna improve your visibility. I highly recommend the 100 LED from custom dynamics. I ride with a couple of guys and one has the run turn signal configuration I think you were talking about. I think his kit is the Panacea kit from Kurykan (sp) To me this set up is not as bright and noticeable since I ride behind him regularly. I think the reason is...they use some of the LEDs for the yellow turn signal and some different ones for the running lights, so there are fewer LEDs burning at once and they do not put off that much light. There may be some better out there, and these work great but in all lighting conditions, not much added to the advisability part especially in the full sunlight daytime, which is the true test to added visibility. I would replace the incandescent bulbs with the full LED turn signals and install some additional lighting for extra running lights. There is all kinds of stuff out there and really none of it is that hard to take some aluminum flat bar or angle you get from Lowes and build some way to mount it. A Brand New Dunlop E3 has a tread depth of 11/32 for the rear. I have 10713 miles on mine and still have almost 6/32 left. (not quite 6/32 after several measurements) I just got back from a 675 mile trip and it moved it off the 6/32 mark. It was a solid 6/32 before I left. So how many miles do you think I will get with this rear tire...and when should I change it and still be safe. Running it to the threads show is not what I consider safe. I am thinking at about 4/32 pull if off. I already have a new one ready to go in its place. I am very pleased with this tire...

Man...You were L U C K Y the Lord was not too busy with something elses to put his hands on you. Glad you are still around. You need to go pay the preacher extra this Sunday, cause somebody with a greater power was surely looking out for you. I very much hope for a speedy recovery so you can get back out there before the summer is over. I am so sorry about your bike. There is no doubt it is toast...I hope you find a good one to replace it. Look for the Midnight ones...for they are the fastest and always the prettiest bikes around.

1/4 " nuts do wonders for tailgators. I keep a couple handy in my vest pocket...if a guy determined to ride my butt so close I cannot see his head lights...after all else fails...drop them one at a time on the road...or thumb them up over your head. They will get the message and back off or pass. It seems like rocks tossed up by the bike. I feel my life is endangered by them following to close. That is grounds for self defense.

The weather being so nice...and me having to go back to work today to be ready for work at 6AM in the morning. I decided to ride Black Betty to work. I do this occasionally but have to watch the weather closely since I have to stay at work for 7 days and return the 8th day. So this morning I am head to Youngsville LA (suburb of Lafayette LA) for a week of work. I usually when in the cage drive back Tuesday night and get home around midnight, but since I am riding Betty...I will spend one more night and come back the following day so I will not have to travel at night through some of the heaviest deer population in the South East. The weather for the return trip April 7th looks promising so far. So I am hoping it will be nice for the return trip. Got her all loaded up and pulling out in a few minutes. I plan on talking the long way to get in as much riding as I can. Get out of my way...here I come cages.

I cheerfully disagree...by definition a Motorcycle Linked brake system is one when you press the brake pedal both front and rear brakes are applied. Same for the front brake level...the front and rear are applied.

Side Reflectors to LED's

Just took some heli tubing and wrapped the two wires then tie wrap them to the brake lines...on the back side with small black tyraps. Also to remove them...if you do not have a heat gun...3m makes a adhesive remover that desolved that sticky stuff so you can pull them off. I you destroy them, who cares, if you save them, what are you gonna do with them anyway...loose them in your stack of stuff? -
Higher octane = lower temps...or at least that is what I found running 115 octane race fuel in motocross bikes. I found the race bikes run at times 20 degress cooler with race gas. I use a infrared temp gun to measure this. I run regular gas in mine also.

The Passing light install is not really that hard to do. You can probably handle it if you take your time and if you get stuck along the way...shout out for some help. Most of us here recommend installing a relay to carry the extra load of the new lamps. Do this by running a wire from the battery to a relay (you can find a 30 amp automotive relay at just about any auto parts store) through the normally open contacts on the relay to supply power to the new lights. The coil of the relay is energized from either the running lights (blue wire on the 2nd gen Venture) or the high beam of the head light. Some folks run them on high beams or low beams or both. I have a switch so I can run them on either if I wish. Some of the bikes here has had some issues with the ignition or key switch failure, and it is suspected the extra load running through the ignition switch from passing lights may be causing this failure. Some of the dealers install these lights by simply connecting these lights to the head light circuit and later the key switch fails. I think the instructions may tell you to do this... There is a write up about how to bypass this load around the key switch to prevent this from happening to you. Not real sure there has been failure cases documented on the 96, but I suspect they are the same. Search the technical section and you will see a lots of information on wiring these light up and the key switch failures. Welcome to the site...:TEAL:

I feel for you...leaking fork seals are no fun at all. My first question are the seals worn out or just have some dirt or trash under the lips. In the Motocross world since we ride in all the dirt dust and mud...when our fork seals leak you we slide the wipers down and spray the seal itself with some DW 40 or other light oil to clean any surrounding dirt/trash from the area. Then we use a Motion Pro seal mate to wipe the trash and dirt from under the seal lip and about 80% of the time...the seal stops leaking and then adjust your oil level. http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/partno/08-0395/ You can also do this with a roll of 35 MM film that has not been developed or the photos not taken yet. Cut off a section of the film enough to circle the fork tube. At and angle roll the film under the seal lip and twist it.. The tractor feed notches of the film will remove the trash and fine dirt from the seal. I know the street bikes are not exposed to the dirt and mud a motocross bike is commonly but it is worth a try. I have never changed them on a street bike but...I have changed the seals on the motocross bikes and it is a mess. That fine oil usually is everywhere before I finish. I need a bath when I am done. I prefer to have a professional do the job for they have the facilities and equipment to do it right for a long lasting job. Good luck and maybe the film or Seal Mate will help.

Last fall I had that happen to me. I got one in the attic in a 35 gallon emergency pan with a drain and another one on the ground floor near the kitchen... They were both installed when the house was built in 2001. Wouldn't you know it the one in the attic went out first. I tried to do all I could to find a spot for that one in the attic when we were building but could not so I opted to build a deep pan to catch any problems that could occur with this unit in the attic. It was a pain in the XXX to get it out of there and the new one back in...if it had not been for my 18 year old boy and his few years of going to the Gym 3 days a week...I am not sure we could have done it. So at least i got something for that money I have been paying to the gym. Good luck on swapping it out. I hope it is not as bad as mine was.

They highly value this site and do not want to loose access to it, due to all the information on the beloved Venture. 2. Folks highly value this site for the wonderful people here, our members. They are some of the most friendliest and loving people we know. Most will give the shirt off their backs to help you. This world is running out of folks like that. 3. Where else would most of us live on the internet if this site was not here? 4. It is a lot of FUN for us all. 5. Folks here want to make sure You have the funds to keep this wonderful site up and running. 6. Where else would the 1st gen'ers get slam the 2nd gen'ers on a regular basis. They need that since most are riding antique motorcycles...so it helps their self esteem

If they slip a little after you install them...becareful not to tighten them up to tight. For some reason mine did. Cut shim out of a beer...I mean coke can and put it inside the clamp. This made mine solid as a rock.

I am on my first set of E3's. Rear tire brand new had I think 11/32 tread depth. With over 9500 miles I have 6/32 tread left. So I will probably come in around 12000 miles without risking it to much (running it bare) I think. Will just have to run it and see. I don't want to risk running them to far and have a blowout or a wreck. I like them pretty good...so much better than the Dunlope 404's. I am thinking about going ahead and ordering one now while they are on sale incase I need one before the summer is up. I am hoping I get to ride enough to wear it out before mid summer. I think you will be very satisfied.. I run my air pressure 36 front and 41 rear with a digital gauge...checking them everytime before I ride.

Dunlop E3s are the way to go in my opinion...I believe Avons are good tires, I think there is a bad batch that got out...but they are a little more costly. Why not save yourself about $50 and try this. Jake Wilson has the best deal right now. Most of the time...Motocycle superstore and Southwest Moto usually are the places to look for tire deals. Great looking bike. I really like the strats. I cannot wait till that Stratoliner Deluxe to get to the dealer show rooms. Am I gonna trade Black Betty for Black Strat? Don't think so. I am trying to talk my boy into trading or selling that Midnight VStar Custom 650 for a new Strat.. He wants a Raider...probably would be a good bike but does not even look comfortable. I may try bribe him with some cash to help buy the Strat if he goes that route. I will ride it while he is at work...just to break it in. Sweet looking machine
