At my first MD, (2010) Earl came over and checked out my First Gen, and taught me how to sync my carbs by explaining as he did it for me. I come to MD 'cause I know there's folks like Earl there. He's very knowledgeable, and helpful, and is a great supplier for Venture parts. Thanks Earl.

My older brother retired last Fall. Bought a house in Big Pine Key, (In the FL Keys) and I'll be helping him move down in July. He's thrilled about the idea of moving back to the Keys. I was talking to him the other day and he said "This retirement thing is GREAT !!! Congrats on the retirement. Now get out there and make us proud. I'm happy for ya...and a bit jealous.

Allrightie then -
Weird. I have a pond in the back of the house, maybe 50' x 100'. We threw a couple dozen goldfish from Walmart in the pond a few years ago, and now there's hundreds of them. We keep it aerated, and it's a pretty healthy pond that attracts ducks, geese, muskrat, and there's as many as 5 snapping turtles at a time. I stepped out of the house, heading off to work and heard a ruckus down at the pond. Sounded like cats fighting, but it didn't really sound like cats, so I take a few steps to view the pond, and there's maybe a half dozen raccoons swimming in the pond with one struggling to stay above water, and I'm guessing that's the one that was screaming. I'm trying to make sense of what's going on, but my first reaction was to grab a hard rake that was nearby and run down to the pond to pull this young adult coon out before he drowned, figuring I'd have to jump into the pond to grab him / her. The pond's only a couple of feet deep on that end. By the time I grabbed the rake and turned around it got quiet, and I saw the coons swimming away from the spot where the one was crying. I saw some mud kicked up from the bottom, (water was muddy in that spot). I wasn't sure if the coon that was in trouble was one of the ones swimming away or not, and since the ruckus was over I watched for a minute then gave up on it and went to work. Came home from work this evening, and went to throw some fish food in for the fish, (The snappers usually come up for the food as well)...and I noticed what looked like a half a rat or something floating in the pond. I walked around dispersing the food, noticing one of the snappers over where I saw the mysterious floating carion, anyhoo, I walked around the pond and when I got back to where I started the carion was gone. Makes me wonder.....did that coon I saw get taken down by the snapper??? ......and if so, why didn't the coon come floating back up....??? I did a quick google search and saw no mention of a snapper taking a coon, but I don't know what else to make of it. Like I said....Weird. Anyway, I thought it was pretty interesting, so I thought I'd post it. Thoughts???

Try turning the handlebars to the extreme right before standing it up. That may help a bit.

The wife says the arm rests are better on the first gen, but I've recently purchased a set of the Diamond R arm rests for her. I've not yet installed them, but I'll post when I do. My 06 has the pillow top seats, which are pretty cushy, and she does like that.

First gen and second gen are apples and oranges. Both are great bikes, but IMHO the first gen is a great sport touring bike, better performance, and sportier riding position. The second gen is a better long haul ride, much more comfortable. I've a first gen that I rode for 5 years before adding a second gen to the stable. I didn't really feel comfortable on it first, with the forward controls, and it just seemed huge. Now that I've had the second gen for a couple of years, I'd have to say that all in all I prefer it. It took a while to get there, but it's a VERY comfortable bike. Stay with it a while and you'll come to love it.

I also have a stock windshield off of my 06 RSV. It's in decent shape, but I noticed some minor spotting on it, only barely visible in bright sunlight....wasn't a problem, but I wanted a F4. You're welcome to it if you want it. Just pay shipping.

If it turns out to be true..........would ya???

I have a first gen and a second gen. Love 'em both. I've never felt the need to replace what I have with something new, just because it's new. I'm pretty pleased with what I've got. -
Never much cared for DNR. Many of 'em go out of their way to be a PITA.

Glad to hear you made it through as well as you did. When something like that comes outta' nowhere, there's not much you can do. Protective gear is the best defense. I don't always wear a helmet or jacket, but know I should. I'm gonna have to work on that. Hope the healing process is as quick and comfortable as possible. Take care.

Been there, done that. My turn signal nipped the guys bumper. Shook me up pretty bad. The guy in the video handled the situation pretty well. Glad he's OK.

At 40,000 I replaced the friction plates with stock plates, doubled up the wave spring, and have been very happy with it. No slippage, .....can do a wheelie or burnout if I choose, and while the lever's a bit harder to pull, it's not enough for me to consider it a negative. Maybe if I was a bit smaller, or older it'd be a problem, but other than noticing the harder pull at first, it feels about right to me now. I can ride it all day without a problem. I like the improved "sporty" performance.

27 hrs of watching them pour concrete.....now that's entertainment ! lol That's a lotta mud. Takes me back to my early 20s....A shovel, jackhammer, pneumatic drill and concrete vibrator were my weapons of choice. Glad I don't do that anymore....it's a young mans' game.

My older brother had a home built in Key Largo in the late 70s. Living area was 12' off the ground, entire house, including the ROOF was poured, reinforced concrete. It was rated to withstand 300 mph winds. I'd have a hard time imagining even a tornado taking that house down.

Bite Me We got 4" of snow here on Monday. Thank God it's not sticking around. Anyhoo, enjoy your ride.

You should be good to go. Microfarad rating of the two capacitors is the same, voltage is higher. When it comes to capacitors, you can go up on the voltage, but not down. (370v and 440v are the two most common voltages). As far as the microfarad rating, they say + or- 10%, always go a bit higher rather than lower if there's a discrepancy. A weak capacitor can increase amp draw, but I doubt it'd be enough to fry a healthy solder connection. The more common issue is a failing / failed mini-relay on the board. My opinion is that the board had a poor solder joint, which you so capably corrected. You may want to give the blower wheel a bit of a jiggle to see if the motor bearings are ok. A bit of end play is ok, but ANY side to side play indicates a failing blower motor. Failing bearings typically increase amp draw. When this is happening, you can usually hear a bit of a "struggling" sound when the motor first starts. As far as the smell, I'm sure it was an overheated heat exchanger. I highly doubt that it caused any damage to said heat exchanger. If the exchanger ever does fail, it'll be VERY evident in the efficiency of the flame. The only thing that has me a bit befuddled is why there's no limit trip indicated....unless the furnace had cooled, and the limit reset before you were looking for the fault code. Depends on how the board is set up. Some store all codes, some will allow the code to go away once the issue is reset. I think you're OK. If you were a customer, I'd have replaced the board, but if it were for myself, I'd have done the same thing you did. I don't do much residential work any more....I spend most of my time on the roofs of malls and plazas, but the principals are the same. I think you can take pride in a problem confronted and resolved. 27+ yrs HVAC Tech.

Don't remember ever getting a notice, but I checked and it expires on 4 / 15, so I went ahead and renewed. Thanks for keeping this site going.
