This forum is not a democracy. Don created this site to inform, collate with and entertain one another. Politics tend to get ugly, whether in practice or just in conversation, and this site is one of the few I've ever come across that's able to remain civil. We all understand the rules, and when they're violated Don will step in to bring the thread back to within guidelines. I'm at least as passionate about political issues as the next guy / gal, but generally don't talk about it with my family at Thanksgiving, because I know it can get ugly, and I'd rather not ruin the holiday. In that spirit, I understand why such talk is forbidden at VR, as we are a family here as well. I should further say that CWTART responded appropriately when cautioned. That says a lot about his maturity.....must be a good guy. Now, let's get back to the fun stuff.

I don't get why the LEO climbed aboard for the ride. I don't get why the driver would argue a command given with a pistol pointed at him. When passions are high, folks on either side of the law are prone to poor decisions. To answer your question, I'd say that, once again, both sides were at fault. If the driver would have obeyed, he'd still be alive. (Assuming he was killed) If the LEO would have let him drive off and pursue, the driver may still be alive and the LEO wouldn't have sustained whatever harm came to him. (Although you could make the case that others could have been harmed as the result of a pursuit) I'd certainly side with the cop, but if you Monday Morning Quarterback it, ....he could have played it better.

The cop and the speeder were both wrong. The speeder shouldn't have been speeding, ...as we all sometimes do.... and then he shouldn't have ran when the lights went on...as some of us have.... Having said that, once the chase begins, I can't imagine it ending well for a biker on a big heavy bike. Further,...once the chase begins, the bikers blood was up and he'd be much more prone to taking chances, especially with 4000 lbs of cop car with a pushbar trying to ram him. The biker was stupid / reckless, but he didn't deserve to die. The cop saw the speeder and flipped the lights on. Once he did, especially if he'd gotten the license plate, he shouldn't have gotten into a high speed chase over a simple speeding violation. How did the cop think this was going to end? He CERTAINLY shouldn't have been trying to bump the bike. Seems like he wanted to kill the biker. I understand that the LEO would have had his blood up as well, but part of his job would be to control that. If he's unable to control his temper, he shouldn't be in that position. By continuing this chase, the cop, endangered not only the bikers life, but the lives of other drivers as well. I've run across good cops and bad cops in my life, and I can't imagine a good cop running this biker down.

My wife went through that a couple of weeks ago. She had a couple days of bad discomfort, then a week of minor discomfort, but now she's feeling much better, the acid reflux issues she's had have largely diminished, and hasn't found any issues with her diet yet. So far so good. Hang in there, and you may find you're better off without that pesky bugger.

I had my 'puter guy (nephew) upgrade one of my laptops to 10 and when we spoke about it, he said 10 has changed somewhat from what it started out as and really isn't that bad. I'm still favoring the laptop with 7 on it, but intend on starting to use the one with 10 on it one of these days.

What??? No date set for Maintenace Day????
uncledj replied to rickardracing's topic in Watering Hole
I may be able to provide another option if needed. Wouldn't be a MD, but just a weekend up at the cabin in North Central PA. If the regular MD doesn't pan out, we'll give it a think. -
I've two laptops, one goes back to 2012 and a newer one that I'd picked up last year but not used much. I took 'em both to my 'puter savvy nephew who loaded up W10 on the older one and left the newer one with W7, so I could play with them both to help get through W10, and I'll say, it's not as bad as I thought. If all goes well, I'll end up having him put W10 on the newer one as well. So far so good.

True, True, True,......BUT.... When dealing with compressed air / nitrogen / CO2 / propane or anything that will have actual pressure against it, (as compared to regulated gasses), I do like to put sealant right up to the end of the male thread, and in many cases, a light film on the female thread so that it'll build up a bead at the face of the nipple. I don't want to see a bunch of dope that'll break away and obstruct, but just a bit to create a bead. This is where it's important to use a hardening pipe dope. Anyhoo,...that's what's worked well for me over my 30+ years as a HVAC Tech....as a BTJ with the Plumbers & Fitters. Sealing a low pressure gas line is easy, but getting a joint exposed to potentially 400+psi to seal is a bit harder. Not sure what that propane tank is likely to produce, but I'd guess around 100+ psi on a hot day. Easy to figger out with a quick web search.
-
For something like that, I'd use a hardening dope, such as Leak lock, Gasoila or the like. I only use teflon when I'm trying to fill in voids on poor threads.

Let me start by saying I'm not a 'puter guy.....Been running windows 7 for quite a while now. Windows will no longer be supporting Windows 7 in a week or so. What does that mean to me? Do I need to update to Windows 10? I hated Windows 8.....Have heard that 10 is intrusive and should be avoided,....I've tinkered with it on a work computer and was able to get around a bit but didn't like it. SO....Do I just have to suck it up and deal with W 10 or are there any other options...???

IMHO The best woods gun for deer hunting is the Winchester 94...30-30. I've hunted with different rifles and calibers, but that derned 30-30 has great knockdown power and easily reaches out to 200 yards. It's short, light, accurate and powerful. Probably my next fav would be my Winchester model 88, in .308....a bit more refined but still a lever action with the same attributes...a bit more ummmmffff.... I've done well over the years with both rifles. Anyhoo, that's my

AH.....Yes I thought you were referring to some sort of a special starter......some sort of special starter Yammy was putting on it's bikes that I'd never heard of. I DO have a boost starter on my old 6 volt backhoe, in the form of a 12 volt battery.....cranks it over like it's on turbo boost.
-
Boost starters??? Enlighten me....

Wow....hate to hear about things like that. Will pray that she heals quickly with minimal discomfort. Even with the injury, try to remember what Christmas is all about.

Just got 2 cans delivered. For starters, I'll coat the trailer connectors on my vehicles. They get corroded up pretty quick, so that'll be a good test.

Back in my hill climbing days, there was a formidable hill that began with a 6' deep ditch that someone laid a railroad tie across. I'd have to hit that tie at 30+mph to have a good run on the hill. That was the extent of my craziness with such things. Coming back down and trying to hit that railroad tie would have been quite a trick. Every time I tried it with my TT500, I made it up and went down the backside. I got a deal I couldn't pass up on an old TT600, and now there it sits in the shed 'cause I'd be scared to ride it to anywhere near it's potential.....I don't bounce like I used to. Hell, I did my knee in just starting the thing last Summer. Ya gotta kick it like ya mean it.

Gas. 6.4. Also has the Snow Chief package, which gives it a posi rear end and a 220 amp alternator...both cool with me. I was open to diesel, but couldn't justify the extra $10k, considering I rarely / never tow anything that heavy....with the 6.4 my listed tow capacity is over 14,000 anyway. I bought my last truck in 06 with 30,000 miles on it, and just sold it to a good friend....13 years later....with 95,000 miles on it. Point being, that I don't rack up enough miles on my truck to justify all the miles you supposedly get from a diesel. By my nature, I tend to pick apart things that I buy, but can't find a single thing to complain about with this truck....I've had it for 4 months now and I love it. Great truck.

I bought a new (to me) pickup. It's a 2017 Ram 2500, crew cab, 4x4 it's a Tradesman, so not a lot of bells and whistles, which is OK by me for a truck. Anyhoo, it's in great shape, low mileage, and after looking at pretty much all the trucks out there 5 yrs old I see a lot of rot...especially around the rear wheel wells. I did a bit of research on how to undercoat, and there's different products out there that people swear by but I decided on Fluid film. I gotta say...I love this stuff. I undercoated the entire vehicle (6 cans) and got the 360 degree spray nozzle on a 3' tube so I could get inside the rockers, doors and wheel wells. A bit smelly for a week or so after treatment, but this stuff creeps like you wouldn't believe. The thing about it is it continues to lubricate as well. On my Expedition, I've the running boards that retract, and they tend to get stuck. (common problem) So, I'd WD40 them every couple of weeks to keep it in check, but if I'd go a month without treating, they'd start sticking again. I treated them with Fluid Film, and it's been over a month with no sticking....not even the hesitation that I'd notice when they started getting tight. I sprayed the coupler on my trailer with it to protect it for winter, and am amazed how smooth it works now. I gotta tell you....Fluid Film is right up there with Seafoam in my book. I'm in no way associated with the company that makes this stuff, but just wanted to share with my Venturerider friends what a great product this stuff is. Take it or leave it, but IMHO this is one of those products that actually works great to protect, or for lasting lubrication.

Any specifics on exactly what ya got there? I might want to do that same upgrade.

DEFINITLEY go with the gas shielding over flux core. Mig welding is mostly about getting it set up right for what you're doing. Once you get in the zone, you can make some beautiful welds that'll penetrate. Like someone said, when you're in the zone you'll hear a consistent sizzling. I just use CO2 and it suits me just fine. Maybe not as good as ultramix or the like, but as I get the CO2 for free, that's what I use and have done quite well with it. Practice makes perfect, and once you get the knack, you'll be amazed when you see all that you can do and will wonder how you ever got by without it. I've a Lincoln Weldpak 120v mig, A Lincoln 225 AC/DC stick welder and an old oxy acetelyne setup from my days in the steel mill. 99% of what I weld is with the Lincoln Weldpak mig. I only resort to stick welding when I've something really heavy to weld. (1/4" and over). Have fun with it.

Yup, I'm still around...but heck...you know that.... As an AC Tech, I'm usually pretty busy in the Summer and this year is no exception. Been some issues at work causing people to quit...they almost lost me but I hung in there and there HAVE been some positive changes. Rode the bikes up to the Cabin with friends last month. Meant to post about it but haven't had time. Had some interesting issues with the motorhome...(2 flats within 10 miles).... Just returned from a trip to PA with the motorhome and saw your message, so figured I'd better respond, but all is well with Lisa and I, and looking forward to the next get together...probably next year....possibly at the cabin. All's well, and thanks for askin'.

Don't know that that will work in this application. I think that's meant to be used for machine control and the like. (Looks cool, though)

Where might I find "venture rider merchandise"?
