Up until my 30s we used to butcher them ourselves. I remember one year we had 12 of them hanging in a canopy my dad built for a motorhome. Motorhome was gone but the canopy came in handy. Dad would freeze much of the meat then take it to the machine shop at the mill and slice it with the bandsaw...lol....I'm pretty sure he took sanitary precautions.....Maybe not...lol

My 49th year of enjoying the tradition of Buck Season at the Headhunter Camp. I haven't hunted for 20 years or more but still enjoy hunting season at the cabin. The old timers that were regulars have been passing away and the numbers of hunters at our cabin is dwindling, but I figure the tradition survives until the last of us are gone. The unquestionable wisdom of the PA Game Commission has decimated the deer herd, at least in the area of our cabin. We're now as likely to see elk as deer. When I was young, there were deer EVERYWHERE. You didn't always make it to your stand before getting your deer. Not so much anymore. It's been a few years since anyone's gotten a buck on first day. As for me, I enjoy taking a walk into the woods on first day and check out my old spots. I did a little over 5 miles in the woods, walking slowly and never saw so much as a tail. I only heard 2 shots off in the distance. We used to have a 90% success rate first day....Wow, how things have changed. Anyhoo, we all still had a great time, but I fear I won't be the only one who won't be hunting there next year. Doesn't matter, the tradition still lives. If it was only about harvesting a buck we'd all hunt in Ohio. Heck, I have them running around my backyard all the time. I still look forward to buck season every year.

Happy Thanksgiving to all. Try to take a minute and think about what we have to be thankful for. Regardless of what side of the political spectrum we're on, we're truly blessed to live in the US. I'm grateful for my health, my family and friends as well as my Venturerider friends and this site. Thanks, Don.

I lived in Key Largo for a couple of years in the mid 80s. I was doing contract work at Turkey Point power plant outside of Homestead. Actually bought a house at MM98. Wished I'd kept it....My cellphone bill today is more than my mortgage payment was then. Been back a couple of times and while I also love it down there, it's not the same as it was. A lot more traffic and congestion. I still like going back though. Penney Camp Park was pretty cool.

I don't know that I'd want to live in one, but the nice thing about a RV is that you're taking a bit of "Home" with you. Everything doesn't seem quite as foreign when you have a small, familiar place to retreat to. I find that I'm typically a bit more comfortable in my small motorhome than in a hotel room.

They say the same thing about RVs. I've no complaints. I rarely use it, but it's nice to have when I do use it.

Took my 06 RSV into a local shop last Spring for new tires an oil change and to resolve an occasional miss. They told me they replaced a fouled plug and that resolved the miss. OK.... Didn't sit right with me as I'd replaced the plugs maybe 4k ago, but whatever. She ran pretty good but I still got an occasional bit of smoke from the one side, ...same side as before. I ran it for about a thousand miles with no change. Very rideable but I knew something was still a bit off. Trailered it to Vogel and rode it the first day, but the second day the miss became a problem to the extent that I didn't trust it. Lisa and I went "antiquing" instead. I took it back to the same shop...(I trust these guys)....They had it for a week and I just picked it up and it ran better than it had in years. Smooooth idle, good throttle response. So I obviously asked what was going on and they said there was a fouled seat on a carb and leaking crossover tubes? I'm guessing those are the tubes that carry fuel between the carbs. Anyhoo, The owner said they should have looked into it a little better when they last had it, and since I've been a good customer, NO CHARGE. Cool. I'm a mechanic myself, so I understand how this stuff goes sometimes, so I was willing to pay for service they hadn't provided before, but was happy to see that customer service isn't dead. So....A shout out to Mobile Cycle Works in Ashley, Ohio. Thanks to John and Dane (Owner and son) for doing what it takes to keep customers happy.😀

Back in the 80s I rode my Honda 750 from Key Largo to the mainland (Homestead) via Cardsound Rd., which was the only other way besides US1 to get to the mainland, and there'd been flooding and I rode a few miles through about 4" of saltwater. Saltwater on a hot motor doesn't go well. That bike was never the same after that. I loved that bike but she weren't so pretty after that.

This'll be my last full Winter as a werkin' man. Took my RSV to "MY Guy" for carb work yesterday and I definitley felt Fall in the air. I guess I'm not a real Venturerider, "cause 35 is a bit chill for riding. I do get the folks that like to ride in cooler weather, but I don't get those who ride with snow / ice on the road...

Hmmm.. I do know from experience that when replacing, or in your case rebuilding a master cylinder it can be a pain to get the juice to flow at first. With the master full and the brake line disconnected at the master, what happens when you pump the brake handle? I don't think the front / rear brakes are linked on the second gen...not sure though. If they were I'd wonder about the proportioning valve. Someone should chime in and confirm or deny that they're linked. It doesn't seem that it should be this difficult, but I've had similar situations. (Don't make sense) I feel your pain, but I think if you stick with it you'll find the answer. It sounds like (so far) you've been checking all the boxes.

So....I wonder if you were to remove the hose from the master cylinder and immerse it in a container of brake fluid and try the vacuum bleeder at the wheel cylinder....would it draw through the hose? If not, then that would seem to indicate an issue within the brake tubing between the master / slave cylinder.
-
Don't know if it applies the same in this situation, but I know a collapsed brake line can cause some problems. When you bleed at the caliper, does it seem to have good pressure?
-
I know...Dumb question, but I gotta ask.... When bleeding by pumping the pedal, are you tightening down the bleeder screw before releasing the pedal? If bleeding with a vac pumper, are you tightening down the bleeder screw before removing? I'm just wondering if you're letting air back in after bleeding....

Lisa and I got home around 730 last night. Thanks to y'all for another great get together. It was wonderful to see so many of my Venturerider friends again. Already looking forward to the next one. Will post a pic or two when I get a minute.

Lisa and I made it Thursday evening. Here now with Rosemary and Dave, Tina and Ron. I-75 was a nightmare coming down...will go back via 77.

Getting ready to head out now.

Put over 600 miles over the weekend, more than half wearing the helmet, and it gets an A+. Comfortable, reasonably light weight, great visibility and just the right amount of noise reduction. If I had any reservations, it'd be about the chin strap. Comfortable, but takes some getting used to. All in all I have no complaints.

We ended up getting a couple of LS2 Advant-x helmets in matte black. I'll be riding up to the cabin with friends this weekend so I'll break it in. Seems very soft, comfortable but a bit tight on the cheeks, sales guy says that'll get better after a bit of use. Dangerous stuff going into Iron Pony Motorsports.....They had a burgandy Can Am Spyder Limited ......Damn, it was nice. Not quite ready yet, but if I was, I'd have pulled the trigger on that right on the spot.
-
Hard to beat the newer Goldwings. I'm hanging onto my RSV until the bitter end....Even if I get a Can Am, I'll still keep the RSV for solo riding. I'm sure you'll enjoy your new scoot. Ride safe.

I get that a high output stator can create more heat, but is that still true if I'm not putting any additional load on it? It seems to me that you'll only get more heat when you create more of a load. Looking at a "Ricks" 40a for $179. Keeping in mind that I may never even need it; just don't want to get stuck somewhere.
