I wonder if everyone is missing this bit (red bold mine): Our New Moon Shinez™ provide a exceptional bright cool white driving light while still providing front turn signal functionality. At approximately 6000K these Genesis® II White LEDs with Eclipze® Technology provide the same color as most HID kits and come with a Lifetime Warranty Against LED Failure. Our Moon Shinez™ must be used with a Clear or Smoked Lens (Sold Separately) Does that explain the improper fit with stock lenses? Dave

I like looking through the Instructables website, because I feel handy even if I am not. I get their newsletter with featured projects, and the latest one I received had an instructable that some of you might like: Motorcycle Lowers (low deflectors) You may or may not have need for this Instructable, but browsing the related ones might be fun and spark your imagination. Heck, some of you might enjoy the Swirled White Chocolate Raspberry Cheesecake one more! Dave

GoPro 1080p HD Helmet Hero on Woot today 12/17/2011
Dave77459 replied to Dave77459's topic in Watering Hole
I hope this helped someone here get one who otherwise wouldn't. Dave -
The GoPro 1080p HD Helmet Hero is today's featured deal on Woot! today, 12/17/2011. It is $129.99 + $5 shipping. If you've not been to Woot!, they feature one product until it sells out or the day ends. So if you miss this sale today, you are out of luck. Their description is frequently amusing.... Features: Professional quality, Full HD Video – 1080p, 960p, and 720p in 30 and 60 fps (720p). The HD HERO offers three different HD resolutions, giving you three filming modes to capture the best angles for any given activity: - 1080p: 1920×1080 True HD featuring a 127º angle of view, 30 fps, and 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio - 960p: 1280×960 Ultra Wide and Tall HD featuring a 170º angle of view, 30 fps, and 4:3 aspect ratio. See more of the action above and below than widescreen 16:9 resolutions can show - 720p: 1280×720 Ultra Wide HD featuring a 170º angle of view, both 30 and 60 fps, and 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio Shoot hands-free, 5 megapixel photos automatically at 2 / 5 / 10 / 30 / and 60 second intervals until the batteries die or the SD card is full (2.5 hours). Or set it to single shot, triple shot, or self timer for more traditional photo taking You’ll only be hearing the sounds of your sport, not the howl of the wind with the HD HERO camera. The HD HERO uses 48kHz, AAC audio compression and a built-in mono microphone with AGC (automatic gain control) The rechargeable 1100mAh lithium-ion battery (included) lasts for 2.5 hours of constant recording. It can be recharged to 80% capacity in just 2 hours when plugged into a computer’s USB port, or in 1 hour when plugged into a USB compatible wall or car charger. Cam can also be used while charging…handy on road trips where it’s fun to leave the camera rolling. Also features an integrated battery heating system for keeping your battery warm in winter activities Don’t let a little water, or even a ton of water get in the way of getting the shot. Proven in heavy surf from Hawaii to Tahiti, Southern Mexico to Northern California, HD HERO cameras can handle it thanks their highly engineered polycarbonate exoskeletal housing. Waterproof to 197 ft (60m) and tough enough to take a spin across the asphalt, GoPros are built to take a beating Switchable NTSC/PAL output for watching recorded video directly from the camcorder on your NTSC or PAL analog television

I must be looking at the wrong Emerson, because MapSource says it is 3200 miles, one way. Oy!
-
You have to somehow prove that you were in the country. A receipt or something like that, I guess, although they mention photos. I guess you could photograph your bike beyond the "Welcome to Mexico" sign? Dave

Having visited Boquillas Canyon, I found this interesting. U.S. Proposes Unmanned Border Entry With Mexico I'm not sure what the impact will be, besides making this spot less desirable to visit. Already you can't visit the canyon without being harassed by vendors. On the other hand, it would be a pretty good spot to start the Ironbutt Border-to-Border Insanity, if it is a vehicle crossing. To quote BTO, takin' care of business! Get that place done! I'll catch ya soon. Kreg, you're just wrong in the head. Dave
-
I gotcha. Hope to see you anyways. Been too long. Dang, sorry I won't see you. FWIW, my HD buddy is organizing some friends to meet at the Kroger on the feeder just south of the Walmart from 5:30 to 6:00. They'll meet under the sign there. I'm planning to get there just before 6:00 -- since my wife Jamie asked why we had to get there so early. LOL Dave
-
Good on you for being with your friend in his time of need. That's great of you. 450 miles one way is a lot... the first time. Five or six more of those and it will probably seem easy enough. I had Rick Butler upgrade my [RSTD] seat. I think it is time to do it again; all foam has a lifetime and I have enough weight to shorten it. I've not tried moving fuel from one side to the other, but IIRC it is akin to laying it on its side. When I am on a road trip I carry one or more MSR fuel bottles that are about a liter, just in case. I also slow down when I go on reserve. My big windscreen really decreases fuel economy when moving fast. Dave

*BUMP* Anyone going? I'm thinking of meeting some non-VRO friends at the Whataburger/Kroger parking lot adjacent to the Porter Walmart so we can assemble and be sure of riding near each other. C'mon out! Supposed to be [comparatively] warm! Dave

Heh. My Silverstar Ultra lasted approximately 60,000 miles longer than the CCC HID, which failed inside a month. It was also nearly as bright and looked much better without a visible ballast and igniter (I have an RSTD). Of the three points you made, one was true: the CCC HID was reasonably cheap. Glad it works for you though. +1 on the Silverstar Ultra, although I am open-minded towards the PIAA. Dave

I see quite a lot of Asian women wearing surgical masks. I started seeing them around the Bird Flu time. Perhaps they think it keeps them safe.

Well, try to avoid getting the flu, whether or not you make it. Just a suggestion. Dave

MR Gasket fuel pump
Dave77459 replied to Naked Rider's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Are you talking about the electrical connector? My Mr. Gasket came with bare wires. I cut off the old electrical connector and spliced them in. I note that the new Mr. Gasket pump had a different configuration than the old. The old one was pretty easy to make work, but the new one had two fixed nipples, if I recall correctly. Have fun! A few weeks ago, I saw a slide show of the book called "Go The F--- To Sleep", a night time story book. It is available now as a free download from Audible. Here's the blurb: Academy Award nominee Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) rocks this mock bedtime story, capturing a hilarious range of emotions as the voice of a father struggling to get his child to sleep. Go the F**k to Sleep is a bedtime book for parents who live in the real world, where a few snoozing kitties and cutesy rhymes don’t always send a toddler sailing blissfully off to dreamland. California Book Award-winning author Adam Mansbach’s profane, affectionate, and radically honest verses perfectly capture the familiar - and unspoken - tribulations of putting your little angel down for the night. In the process, he opens up a conversation about parenting, granting us permission to admit our frustrations and laugh at their absurdity. Beautiful, subversive, and pants-wettingly funny, Go the F**k to Sleep is a book for parents new, old, and expectant. Due to its explicit language, you probably should not play it for your children. Go the F**k to Sleep is available free for a limited time. Feel free to share the link to this page with tired parents and other people who could use a good swear and a laugh. ©2011 Adam Mansbach (P)2011 Audible, Inc. Download the Audible audio book here. From here: TxTag makes paying tolls on Central Texas toll roads simple and fast. There's no stopping or slowing down to pay, no waiting in line at a toll booth and no searching for change. Devices above the toll road send a signal to the microchip inside the electronic TxTag sticker and automatically deduct the toll from your prepaid TxTag account. Plus, drivers with a TxTag receive a 10% discount on tolls in Central Texas. You can get your TxTag online or by phone at 1-888-GoTxTag. TxTags are also available at mainline toll plazas. TxTag is accepted throughout Texas, so you can use it in Central Texas, plus Dallas, Houston and Tyler. The Dallas/Fort Worth area TollTag and theHouston EZ TAG are also accepted on Austin area toll roads. No toll tag? No problem. Drivers without an electronic toll tag are also welcome to use the express lanes on Austin area toll roads. When a driver does not stop to pay at a toll booth, cameras above the toll lanes will photograph the license plate, and the vehicle owner will receive a monthly bill for toll charges. We call it "Pay By Mail." The Pay By Mail toll rates are one-third more than TxTag rates to offset the costs related to processing the license plate information. Also, a $1 fee is applied to each monthly bill for non-tag customers. Austin drivers also have the option to pay with cash at a toll booth or coin machine. Here are the rates. http://www.texastollways.com/austintollroads/img/rates.png $3.60 per plaza if pulling a trailer. Ouch. I count 5 plazas on their route map. I ran through on my Tour Deluxe and got a camera bill. I also ran through on the Houston toll roads while towing a trailer and got a three-axle bill. Hope this helps! Dave

Mini Carb Float adj. Day SE Texas
Dave77459 replied to Kregerdoodle's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Wish I had a trailer, because I could bring my old Suzuki, Suzie, and let the carb kings figure out how to clean her's. I need to clean her up and get her gone so that momma doesn't need to worry about her: we're probably moving soon. Dave PS - I might have some tires drop shipped, just so I can get a chuckle watching Kreg try to get the E3s off the rims. SO entertaining the last time!
