SyncPro Help
Dave77459 replied to Dave77459's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I liked the notion that you could calibrate the SyncPro, which you can in theory. But my RSTD just seems to throw out too much vacuum. I'm hoping that I am doing something wrong and that someone can tell me "oh, you are connected to the wrong port" or something. The other issue I have with the SyncPro is the separation of the fluid (see photo). "Shake it down like a thermometer?" Seriously? Does not work here. If I don't get help here, I am writing MotionPro for advice, then I am sending it back to the store. Right now, the SyncPro appears to be defective. Dave -
I am trying to calibrate my new SyncPro Carburetor Tuner. I checked the idle, it is at 1000rpm. I attached the short hose to Cylinder 1 -- which I believe is the rear cylinder on the left side, and normally wears the cap instead of the tube. See picture. When I start the bike to calibrate, the leftmost column rises all the way up and past the scale. The other tubes are also very high, but don't get sucked into the engine. It seems the engine has too much vacuum. What should I do? Should all the other vacuum tubes and caps still be attached? Should I reduce idle? I'm getting frusty, Dave

Successful carb sync
Dave77459 replied to Jethroish's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I found a 20" #2 Phillips at Home Depot. Thanks for the suggestion. I don't think I could do it with an 8" screwdriver. Maybe with experience. My hats off to you! Dave -

I missed your reply. You must have hands of asbestos. Did you take the tank off? Dave -
Successful carb sync
Dave77459 replied to Jethroish's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I have been to Harbor Freight, Sears, and Northern Tools today. HF had one that was 18", but it was supersized including the tip. Other than that, I haven't found a long screwdriver. :-( Thanks for your reply. Dave -

How big a screw driver do you need? I knew I needed a long one, and went to Harbor Freight to buy one. 8" is not long enough. Clearly size, matters. How big is yours? Dave -
Passenger seat only suggestions
Dave77459 replied to Joelmark's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I had Rick Butler modify my seat, and he also modified the passenger. My bride is no longer squirmy, even on long days. You might check with him to see if he'll do a pax-only mod. Dave -
Member in need of help

I'm in Houston and looking for a place to ride tomorrow. I just can't check the dealerships here while at work. If you can find one, I'll pick it up and bring it. Not sure what tools you need for that job, and NO expertise. But, I have printed out the service manual. Let me know? Dave -
I also use the CL-33 when I want face coverage. I haven't noticed any increased noise. It has built-in speaker pockets, and slits to route the wires outside the padding. Another point, I rode 750-1000 miles home from the Grand Canyon in rain, and my face never got wet. That is, I never had leakages or drips coming under the face shield even in the sometimes intense rain we rode through.

Congrats! Looks great! Did you install it so that the passing lamps turn off when the high beam is on? That's what my dealer did and I wish they hadn't.

I know! MORE Road King crap! But maybe this is useful. I'm part way through the install of my "Harley touring pipes". I went to the local H-D dealer and asked if I could have a pair of "take-offs"... pipes they take off new bikes when the owner wants a different set. I was given (my cost: $0) a set they said came off a touring bike. I don't know that they are Road King, or what. They were free and in good shape. They have minor scratches, but I did mention they were free, right? The rest of this is to alert newbies to what the issues are when they read install threads. If you don't know what people are talking about, you miss the information being conveyed. So... here's some information. So here is a top view of my stock RSTD mufflers above the H-D touring pipes. The front of the mufflers are to the right. You can see that the RSTD pipes have the bracket welded to the middle of the pipe, offset to the inside. In contrast, the H-D pipes have the nut holes at the tale of the pipes, centered. This causes the main mounting problem, of how to get the bolt on the bike to meet the nut holes on the H-D pipes. Commonly, you make or buy a bracket that spans that gap. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3642/3691214905_9f02c43f0b.jpg Another view. In my opinion, the RSTD pipes are very attractive. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2657/3692021524_579efc409b.jpg Alternative installation method: Zip ties. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2644/3691215573_0aa375d98c.jpg JUST KIDDING! My brackets are coming, but I wanted to hear how they sounded and couldn't wait. But this does show where the H-D bolts go. The mate is visible on the inside of the black pipe, further towards the front of the bike. Here's one of the other issues: the muffler clamp. I have a V-Twin part coming (P/N 31-9920), but this photo shows the ugly mating of the H-D muffler to the Yamaha header pipe. I had to pry the muffler open a little to get it to go over the exhaust header. It probably needs to go on further, but I am waiting for the bracket to come--that will determine final locations. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3604/3691215821_4cdd0907ef.jpg OK, so here is the good stuff. I made videos of my stock pipes before I installed the touring (Road King) mufflers. Stock Pipes: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FWIMtsJhDY]YouTube - Stock pipes on the Royal Star Tour Deluxe[/ame] Harley-Davidson pipes: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nt6QoJtem0s]YouTube - Road King Mufflers on the Royal Star Tour Deluxe[/ame] You can judge for yourself whether you think they are louder. I think they have a different tone and bleat much more when you throttle. And you can see that they shake the camera with the exhaust. But for me, the jury is out as to whether they need modification or not. Hope this helps make the issues a little clearer.

Repair shop in Houston Area
Dave77459 replied to Roundman's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
As a data point, I would NOT recommend the Mancuso Powersports location on US59 S (Gessner-ish). They bought the old Yamaha dealership and apparently turned over all the techs. Whenever I have a question, no one can help. Everyone there seems to know Big Dogs, but not Yamahas. They are, however, convenient, being 10 minutes from home and 15 from the office. Other than that, meh. -
Awesome. Thanks! Dave

Based on this article and my needs, I have settled on the Motion Pro SyncPRO Carb Tuner. It comes with 5mm adapters, but the product website seems to say I need the 6mm adapters (extra cost). Should I buy the 6mm adapters, or am I set with what comes in the kit? Dave

What mufflers are you running
Dave77459 replied to Deacon's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I went to a local H-D dealer and got a pair of touring mufflers for the nice price. Where can I buy the bracket to hang it? I thought there was someone selling brackets in the classifieds, but all I can see are the actual mufflers which I no longer need. It's times like this that I regret letting the ex get the tools. -
The current issue of Motorcycle Cruising has a two-page spread on the Royal Enfield Bullets. The most interesting thing is that they made the fuel injection system look like the original carburetor. The new bikes are 499cc.

Thank you for your observations. Welcome to the site! How do you find the steering compared to your HD? I came from a smaller bike and thought the steering very heavy, which I expected. When I changed out the stock tires, the handling was much improved. Since you have come from a large bike, does it handle heavily from your perspective? Are they still putting Bridgestones on the new bikes? Again, welcome.

Are these intended to be clear with the logo in black, like the Buell Sample? I'm wondering where I will put it on a black bike?

Accessory Lead On RSTD
Dave77459 replied to ManWithAVision's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Here is a photo showing the accessory lead. It also shows the fuse box I installed. I think for some toys I will use the accessory lead to energize a relay so that the accessory turns off with the key. Main power will always be routed from the fuse box. The exception to this will be the passing lamps that will have the relay energized by the front running lamps. This might be a solution for you to run the Garmin as well, although the accessory plug will do as you want. Dave -

Perhaps it has changed, but when it gets to be questionable weather, they close the outside lanes and make you drive on the grating. I found that juggler posted a video regarding his driving over the bridge.
