  1. I hear ya. If they open a Yamaha dealership on the beach on Grand Cayman, I might go back and get that one too. Dave
  2. I like to change out my mascot seasonally. Alas, poor Yorick, he blew away. So this year I got something new. It survived, but these days The Masked Rider will have to do. Guns up! Dave
  3. Which "stage" did you buy, and where did you mount everything? Dave
  4. It has increased my range by 1/2 gallon or so, which is a good thing since I don't get the greatest gas economy. It has also increased the number of puddles under my bike and concerned comments when I fill up first on a group ride and they make me wait to take off. The expanding gas overflows. Dave
  5. I bought a new punch just for the job; I had a dead blow hammer. I filled my tank to minimize vapors. I backed the bike outside (no need to burn down the house!) and asked my wife to check on me in 5 minutes or if she heard something. I think it took less than a minute for 3 holes. Dave
  6. The Chrysler Air Raid Siren is the most powerful siren every built. It's the size of a car, and is powered by a 180Hp Chrysler Industrial V-8 HEMI gasoline engine. The sound is 138 dB at 100'! The Chrysler Air Raid Siren is so powerful that it can reportedly start fires with just the sound vibrations it produces. It can turn fog into rain, clearing the sky. It can produce an effective 70 dB air raid signal for a distance of two miles, and under proper conditions can be heard 30 to 50 miles away. Its advertised effective range was four miles in every direction. That's a long way! I thought information was cool. I found the site last year when searching for siren sound files to annoy my cube neighbor. Here're the .wav files. I'm gonna put it on my phone as a ringtone. But of particular interest was the comparative loudness information. We've talked before how the Stebel is rated at 139 dB... at 4". A jet engine taking off on afterburner is 130 dB at 50'. This monster is 139 dB at 100'! Wow! Dave
  7. I too am interested in your results, insofar as I have a Tour Deluxe without the built-in stuff. I note that here is the WebBikeWorld review. I find their reviews to be pretty insightful. Dave
  8. I have halogen; not sure of the issues. I like my fuse box, and wish I had installed that before the passing lamps. The passing lamps I have like to short at the toggle switch on the lamp housing, and having a separate fuse box is a nice thing. Definitely yes to the relay. Dave
  9. Anyone french their plate into a saddle bag? The plate looks so dominant on the fender. Dave
  10. Gmail. I have Yahoo too, but their spam filtering stinks in comparison. They lost me too when they charged for POP access and for increased capacity that was still smaller than gmail. Maybe they've improved, but the thought that Yahoo could become another branch of Microsoft.... And these days, my google stuff syncs directly with my Android phone. It's a no-brainer for me. Good luck with your decision. Dave
  11. Really nice! Can you give more detail about the fender rack or point me to a discussion? You took off the rear seat clips and that rack repurposed those holes and the third hole? Dave
  12. A girl with freckles is a pleasure to behold, but I wouldn't want to steal your prom date.
  13. I guess you also missed the Southern Maid burger? My gal buddy in Bossier City swears it is a killer. I asked if they use donuts as buns, and she refused to blab. Wimmen!
  14. Why, a purty girl of course! Dave
  15. What part of LA you in? I live in Houston and was planning to ride to Shreveport on Friday for lunch. Something about a burger at the Southern Maid? I reckon Shreveport can't be too different from other parts of SW LA. I got a SyncPro and a long ass screwdriver. And a tachometer. If I had a carbtune, it'd be a no-brainer, but I can easily see getting to your place and seeing the SyncPro is screwed up. Dave
  16. Very intriguing!
  17. Ha! I had to give the pipes some love taps to get them to slide into the brackets. The zip ties were to support the weight while I tapped the crap out of them. Dave
  18. Regarding moderator deletions of posts, when that happens, is there a notice there like when a person deletes there own post? I've seen forums where you see a little interstitial message where the post was, saying things like: Post by Dave77459 deleted by moderator. Reason: flamebait Post by Dave77459 deleted by moderator. Reason: off-topic I think it serves two purposes: the poster gets easy feedback on their bad behavior, and they know they weren't imagining that they'd posted. I suppose it also "outs" them to the others in the forum, who might ignore what they say in the future. I love this site, and support Don's decision to do whatever is easy enough. He and the other mods do much more than we will ever know. I appreciate that. Dave
  19. I feel ignorant. What is black chrome? Dave
  20. 1. Texas. My proof is from this past weekend. I request others to show similar recent proof. A state is good for riding only if you can ride in it. QED: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4013/4302465766_151b3e912f.jpg :stirthepot: Dave
  21. Good point! Do you have any information on the effect of attenuation? 139dBA at 4" is how much at 1m? Or, 109dBA at 1m == how much at 4"? Dave
  22. I like this one... http://www.starparts.org/product-019.html This is the official stealth key... http://www.starparts.org/product-048.html http://www.starparts.org/images/products/Stealth2.jpg
  23. Oddly enough, I too am affected by wind, rain, and direct sunlight. At a M&E last year, the bank thermometers read 106F. I was wondering if it was hotter on the roadway... being made of asphalt and all. What do others use for thermometers? Dave
  24. Look at how unemployment has grown from Jan 2007 thru Nov 2009. I think it's pretty incredible. http://cohort11.americanobserver.net/latoyaegwuekwe/multimediafinal.html The above link is higher res and has a description and footnotes, but this YouTube version might get the point across. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9jBNyysbho]YouTube- *Updated 01-10-10* The Decline: The Geography of a Recession by LaToya Egwuekwe (OFFICIAL)[/ame] I'm gonna leave politics out of it, and just let your jaw drop. Dave
  25. Good video. Please let us know how you like it? I use the trip clock all the time. But, I am interested in the thermometer. Anyone use the Clocks4Bikes thermometer? Dave
