  1. Good information. Thanks! Dave
  2. Is your tank a custom build? Who is making it? I assume it will have the required baffles to meet IBA criterion. I want an aux tank, but money is tight at the present. Dave
  3. Someone told me that spraying Pam cooking spray on the fairing will prevent them from sticking. You think that's a cure worse than the illness, until you blast through a cloud of them. My buddy ran through a flock/swarm/? of Monarch Butterflies down near Big Bend. The pictures he showed were plenty gross, but imagining the countless squishy thwaps is even worse. Dave
  4. I've used the Mach III, and started shaving my head recently. Close comfort is important to me. I used to use Dial Anti-bacterial soap when I just shaved the beard, because it disinfects any nicks as it goes. But that was ouchy on the head. What I do now is switch daily between the Gillette Mach III gel (they changed names last time, and I don't recall what it is called now?) and the Fusion gel. I take a warm shower to soften the scalp and face, then apply gel and give it a chance to work... a minute or two before shaving. Then I shave, and it is comfortable and close. I finish by turning off the hot water and letting the shower go cold to close the pores. It works very good for me. Wife likes both the Fusion and Mach III gels, but seems prefer the scent of the Fusion. Smelling good for my baby pays dividends. ;-) I buy my blades at Sam's Club in a 10-pack or something, to save some money. Dave
  5. If I were made of money, I'd install something like these Hella Micro DE Driving Lights. They are "something brighter," and use less energy. But I'd attach them to my brake/clutch reservoir. And, oh yeah, I need to win the Lotto first. Dave
  6. Is glad the better team won. ;-)
  7. I upgraded from stock to Avons. I run the narrower MT90HB-16 in front, which I like. My first Avon was flawless. My second, I ran over a screw and it held air for a while. Then, on the way up to V7Goose's, it ran low. I think that damaged it. Not too much longer, I had to swap it out because it quickly went bald. Like I said, I think I damaged it. Other than that, the Avons performed flawlessly. I rode 1500 miles home in the rain on a trip with the Avon, and I always felt assured on it. But, I decided to try the E3 in the rear, because I'd heard good things about them and just wanted to experience something different. I now have 5800 miles on it and it looks barely used. Performance wise, both are great tires. I haven't run the E3 on tar snakes yet, so I don't know how that will go. The E3 feels harder for some reason, especially when cold. I don't seem to have the same confidence in curves with it, but it is miles ahead of the stock Brickstone I started with. So for me, it seems to be a trade between bit better handling (Avon) and maybe better lifetime (Dunlop). Summer is coming up soon enough, which could change how I feel about the Dunlop. For now, I'd go back to the Avon. My overall experience, especially in the rain, just makes me happy with it. Dave
  8. My son got free NAV on his laptop, and when the subscription expired tried to remove it. Now he has lost nearly all internet access. The only thing that can reach the internet is Internet Exploder. Not Firefox, not Opera, not anti-malware tools. I haven't been able to find the norton removal tool. If someone has a download link, I'd appreciate it. For now, he is dual-booting into Linux just so he can do his college schoolwork. Dave
  9. I got my '06 in '08 with 2000 miles for $9300. That was the pay off on the seller's note. It was also more than my credit union would finance. If you are planning to finance, that may be an issue--they won't finance more than blue book. If I were to haggle with a dealership, I might try to go for the lowest price, then ask them to switch out the tires for new tires. The stock tires are crap, IMO. I run an Avon Venom MT90HB-16 Front and a DUNLOP MV 85B-15 77H Elite 3 on the rear. It makes a world of difference. Good luck! The '06 TD is the fastest in the family! Dave
  10. You mean more people pulled out when you added the lamps? Dave
  11. I totally get this question. On my ride to the Grand Canyon last year, I really loved the ride into West Texas on Hwy 90, west of Del Rio. That was a gentle hill terrain, where you could see low mountains to either side. The scenery was gorgeous. The riding in NM and AZ was superb in the mountains. There was one moment, where we switchbacked up a mountain and broke into a high plain... after the stress of the curvy riding, where you couldn't really watch the scenery because the road demanded your attention, the high grassland was a pleasure. A real pleasure. I realized then how much I wasn't seeing. On the other hand, I rode an ironbutt to Denver last fall, then spent a couple days riding back. The roads through Kansas were flat and straight, but relaxing too. I found lots of interesting things to look at... objects in the distance growing nearer or just passing by miles away. I was riding by myself, and the tranquil scenery let me just live in the moment. And every once in a while, I'd come across an arroyo (or whatever they're called around there), which I didn't seem coming and pleasantly surprised me. I guess I like all the terrain. I suppose I need to spend more time in the mountains, rather than just passing through. As of now, I think they don't provide as much return on investment. Dave
  12. Yeah, the shot of the announcer in the drop zone... you'd not see me there, no how.
  13. I rarely fill up before getting home. But when I do, I don't fill it up like I do when I am leaving. The gas expands as it warms, so the 5.55 gallons that fills my tank becomes 5.65 gallons or something, the excess of which drips on the ground. I like the mod, since I can get more than 5.4 gallons in my tank like I did before the mod. Every wee bit helps. Dave
  14. Fwd: This video is really interesting, you can understand what is going on even if you don't understand German. There are three major construction equipment shows in the world: 1) CONEXPO in Las Vegas 2) BAUMA in Munich and 3) Intermat in Paris (There may be a new name for this one now, but it is still held in Paris). They alternate every third year in each city. This year the show is in Munich. The Europeans are famous for putting on crowd-pleasing stunts such as this one. Generally they are a little more subdued in Las Vegas, probably because of higher risk of lawsuits. The stunts are well designed to be safe, but there is always the possibility that a hydraulic component could break, or something unforeseen could happen., which could result in a terrible accident. So you think you can drive a piece of heavy equipment. You Engineers watch it all the way. This is from an Austrian TV " reality " show called " Wetten Dass "(I'll bet you that . . . ) looks like this was done in front of the Vienna City Hall. PL What a commercial for this company!! Wonder how he got down!! This guy is certified! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RobaJKGMMiE]YouTube- Liebherr[/ame]
  15. When I bought mine, I bought the "Longhorn Offset Peg Mounts with 1 Inch Clamps" with separate pegs (I got the "Switchblade Footpegs"). That is, the mounts were sold separately from the actual pegs. Dave
  16. That's a very positive outcome. My own story is that neither my close-by dealer nor the original seller dealership knew about officially transferring the warranty. They did do some research and figured out how to update the database, but I didn't get a warranty card. The "inspection" consisted of "is it running well for you?" They didn't know about that either. Dave
  17. I couldn't read to the bottom, because when I scrolled down the legs disappeared. Dave
  18. I had an early pinching problem, but it was resolved. Since then, they have worked flawlessly. They are especially useful at night when the "triangle" helps following cars detect my direction and speed, etc., even when I am not braking. Plus, they really don't change the classic styling that I find appealing about the RSTD. One thing though, take some time to be tidy. I need to trim wires, etc, because all the wires are packed into the housing behind the license plate. I am planning to add in trailer lights very soon, and will clean things up then... because I will have to. Dave
  19. I installed the Electrical Connection Turn Signal Conversion Kit to give me LED running lights. (my how-to here). These are red LED do-nuts that glue to the inside of your turn signal lenses, and turn off when the turn signal flashes. This creates the 3-light rear end that I wanted for safety. A single running light just doesn't do it for me. I am also planning to add the Custom Dynamics 100 LED brake lights. These are very bright. I might eventually add LED glow lights. I'd like to add a yellow strobe, but can't find one. Dave
  20. If it all works out, I'm avoiding Chicago in July by going via Sault Ste Marie. Dave
  21. +1 on the Cutco. My Ex got them in divorce and it's about the only thing I wish I'd fought for. When we got them, there was a lifetime sharpening warranty included. We'd call our rep and he'd get them sharpened. That was very nice. I think it is a standard feature. A special shout out their sandwich knife. The perfect size and amount of flex for spreading mustard or mayo or peanut butter, and a serrated edge for cutting the sandwich. I miss that knife. *sigh* Dave
  22. I note that the mounting board is for an RSV. I wonder how it would mount on an RSTD? I usually use my luggage as a back rest when long distancing. I don't suppose this would be safe on the "10Lb Max" luggage rack? Must it mount flat? Can it be mounted on-end? I have seen tanks used on a hitch, and hopefully I'll have one soon. Have you seen tanks stored on/in trailers? Dave
  23. Congratulations! I am relieved that you will start putting down roots. Dave
  24. My Yamaha Passing Lamps came with a toggle switch on the lamp housing. I leave it on all the time. Dave
