Thanks for the tip Ponch! That's pretty funny! Well, not, but you know what I mean. Thanks! Dave

Here're the AK and AL state .GPX files. Does someone want to look at it and offer ideas? Dave

I took the Excel list and put the city, state, and country as the first three columns. Then I saved the list as a .CSV (comma separated). I copied the first handful of lines and pasted it in the multi-address box. Voila, approximate GPS coordinates! The page lets you save it as a .GPX file, which I can load into MapSource. Here's the result: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4048/4521457886_1500e70cbb.jpg I might create State-based GPX files using this method. I'd personally load them as POI files. If I could figure out the format, it would be better to have name/handle/phone differently done in the waypoint information. Would there be any interest in this? Thanks Margaret for the idea. Dave

The multiple address geocoder looks really promising! Dave

Thanks! It constantly confuses me how Yamaha prices stuff. $12 for rubber vacuum port caps. $4.75 for a shiny metal spacer. I thought it'd be more. Culpa mea for not looking. Dave

Do either of you have the chromed saddle bag spacer remaining? Dave -
I did, but I don't think I had the right keywords. Pinwall Cycles? Or something? Thanks, I'll see what I can find! Dave

I was thinking about drilling out a socket and using that. But I thought maybe there was a salvage source available. Dave

I seem to have lost the "chrome" top rear saddlebag bolt spacer (2nd Gen). What's the best place to get a replacement? Dave

How do you set the pattern? It looks like you apply energy to a wire, and that picks the next one. If so, could you also connect it to the brake wire so that every time you pull the brake the pattern changes? Or is there a random choice? I need to check with my local LEO to see if it is legal here. Dave

Nice! Any idea what the cargo capacity of that fender luggage rack is? Dave -
I swapped out the OEM Brickstone to Avon Venoms with my first change, and will never go back to those. I run an Avon Venom MT90HB-16 in front... I like the more narrow tire. I ran two Venom rears, but the last died early so I tried the Dunlop E3 on back. It's wearing very well, but it seems hard to me. Runs fine, but I feel a lack of confidence in it that 8000 miles hasn't cured. It makes me worried to try one on the front, and I am not at all concerned about mix and matching. I'll probably go back to the Avon up front, but does Dunlop make a narrow (MT90HB equivalent) front? Dave

EGADS! Where did my MPG go?

I have a RSTD, and headwinds make a big difference for me. I got that big sail on front though. A quartering wind should decrease your apparent speed though and get you better mpg? Dave -

I saw in the Iron Butt magazine that a high position is preferred for auxiliary light mounting. They said that a high position allows the light to reflect off objects and back to your eyes more effectively. Mounting lights on the mirror stalks or reservoirs is the way to go, they say. I saw the Denali LED D1 Lighting Kit review show up, and checked them out. They would seem to be perfect for mounting up there... small and sturdy. But how? Anyone mount lights up near their hands? Dave

I just saw this review of the Denali LED D1 Lighting Kit on the WebBikeWorld stream on the right margin of our home page: http://www.webbikeworld.com/lights/denali-led-lights/ It sounds very rugged! Dave

I like these Powerlets too, and as I contemplate camping I reckon I'll need to inflate air mattresses and what-not. A Powerlet on the low side where you placed it would seem ideal. I have a couple questions.... Which outlet did you get? The low profile? With the 24" lead? I note that you mounted it with the hinge down. Was that a conscious decision, and why? My two most commonly drained battery powered items are my phone and now the wireless headset. The phone uses a mini USB, and the headset uses a micro usb. In general, if I can get the flat female USB connector, I can use my existing charging cords. Have you found a source for that? The USB Powerlet cords that Mr. Google points to go all the way to the mini- or micro- end. Any observations you can make now, that you've had the system for a while? Dave -
Thanks for the photos! Really illustrates your words. Dave

Cruise control survey?

I can set mine to 75mph on the GPS, and inch it up to 78mph. I think that's close to 90 on the speedo. With the speed limit in West Texas being 80mph, 78 isn't fast enough. I need a SpeedoHealer. Dave -
Wouldn't let me click the states... Anyways, Texas law (move over or go 20mph under speed limit): § 545.157. PASSING AUTHORIZED EMERGENCY VEHICLE. (a) On approaching a stationary authorized emergency vehicle using visual signals that meet the requirements of Sections 547.305 and 547.702, an operator, unless otherwise directed by a police officer, shall: (1) vacate the lane closest to the emergency vehicle when driving on a highway with two or more lanes traveling in the direction of the emergency vehicle; or (2) slow to a speed not to exceed: (A) 20 miles per hour less than the posted speed limit when the posted speed limit is 25 miles per hour or more; or (B) five miles per hour when the posted speed limit is less than 25 miles per hour. (b) A violation of this section is: (1) a misdemeanor punishable under Section 542.401; (2) a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of $500 if the violation results in property damage; or (3) a Class B misdemeanor if the violation results in bodily injury. © If conduct constituting an offense under this section also constitutes an offense under another section of this code or the Penal Code, the actor may be prosecuted under either section or under both sections. Added by Acts 2003, 78th Leg., ch. 327, § 2, eff. Sept. 1, 2003.

So, if they have people working overtime to finish early, they should eat the cost? Or not pay their people? Or rent extra equipment to finish promptly? Or conversely, they should take as long as needed to make money? US-59 here is a major freeway. When I first moved to town, the state was upgrading it... or wanted to. The contractor treated the project like something he could use to keep his people busy during slack periods. The project extended into years, and you could drive by and not see anyone working at all. The contractor made more money at the public's expense. I am thankful TxDOT implemented bonuses and penalties. They shaved months off several major projects since then. That saved a crap ton of people time and aggravation. That helped businesses to survive. I'm willing to bet that the businesses that are starving around there feel the same way. They make money during tourist season, and if the attraction remains closed, more family businesses are at risk. Dave

I am planning to buy this helmet: [ame=http://www.amazon.com/HJC-Helmet-AC2-BLACK-WHITE/dp/B002413VLS/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1269962432&sr=1-1]Amazon.com: HJC Helmet AC2 LE BLACK WHITE: Automotive@@AMEPARAM@@http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41tbQHA3hqL.@@AMEPARAM@@41tbQHA3hqL[/ame] I like it when people get out of my way. And for some reason, an LE look seems to be more noticeable. Dave
