Could you do the same thing from the starter circuit? Reset from the ignition recycle? After refueling, I sometimes turn on the ignition without starting the bike while I reset the trip meter. Dave
-
Interesting idea! All this could be located away from the headlamp, right? There's not room up there in the RSTD. Dave

It is the 66771! Hey, how long did it take to arrive? The site says 1-2 weeks, and the trucking doesn't seem to be trackable. Dave
-
I thought the first two digits was the week. How could the week possibly be 75 or 74? Dave

Motion Pro SyncPro - either I or it ain't right
Dave77459 replied to GigaWhiskey's topic in General Tech Talk
They are very nice, and their repair kit worked for me. Once. Now, again, crap. Hope it works better for you! Dave -
Only this time, I come to you. No need to repeat the tire bronc busting! Any tips on making sure it is square? I have a framing square, and I hope that's good enough. Dave

Wish I had thought to ask. I'd followed eBay and Craigslist with no joy, so Tuesday I ordered an HF. :-( I know there's upgrades I'll want, but I can budget them in. Dave

Will the HF trailer accept 12" tires stock? Or does it need fender changes to accommodate the larger wheels? I assume the larger tires also make the drawbar slope down more, which I gather is desirable in case loads shift? Dave

My boss loves VRBO. I'll keep it in mind for my next trip. Last time I was in Jefferson, TX, the place was filled with seniors, staying at the B&Bs, they said. Maybe that is an option? When there, hit The Hamburger Store. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2447/4030077527_bf6a6c512b.jpg

I finally upgraded my stock brake light to the Custom Dynamics 100 LED set. When the brake lights, it is like staring into the face of the sun. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4015/4580268798_037960592f.jpg

I don't think there is a notification that your request was rejected. You can always claim a slip of the click if they come back with "why did you ignore me". Dave

How about a sticky thread where people post their photos? A forum section seems best suited for interactive, multiple discussions. Where you might have threads like, Freebird's Ride (4 replies) Dave77459's Roxie (2 replies) Big Mike's Beastie (7 replies) Check out my skull paint! (35 replies) That is, you could post your photos, entertain questions about the mods, etc. Could be useful. On the other hand, I like to bookmark discussions and have them delivered to my inbox. Like the Royal Star Tour Deluxe Owner's Unite! thread. I see it pop up in my inbox and I eagerly click. I like to take time every now and then and just go look at what people have done. Kinda like Big Mike says he wants. Dave

Which way did you mount your hiway pegs? Show your pics!

There is a blowout preventer at the seafloor spec'd to accommodates 7 million foot-pounds of bending load capacity. That's about eight fully fueled Boeing 747s. Apparently, the stresses created by the explosion and sinking of the Deepwater Horizon exceeded that, breaking the valving. The latest reports is that they are creating a heavy box that will capture the outflow, which will then be sucked up to a tanker on the surface. They'll do that until the relief well is drilled in 6-8 weeks. A report I heard this morning says they are pumping an oil dispersal agent at the sea floor that is breaking up the oil into droplets that evaporate more readily. Dave

2005 RSTD HID Light Installation
Dave77459 replied to tsigwing's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Thank you so much for the post. There's not enough length to get the ballast inside our "fairing"? Is there room in the headlight bucket? I have a pair of large amperage wires pre-run under my tank... can I use that or must I use the wire supplied? Although, I will maybe put a switch on my handlebars for it, and taking the tank off is not an issue at all. I am a bit perplexed at the very visible red wires. I've worked hard to maintain the blackness of my midnight bike. That red will stick out like a sore, bleeding thumb. Gives me something to think about. Thank you! Dave -
Amen. This site is awesome for helping a person implement their imagination! Dave

Thank you for the explanation of "experienced". Clearly, experienced means different things to different people. I would hope that such a class would teach any rider something, even with 42 years under their belt. I will say that when I took the "Riders Edge" class, there was a couple in the class who I'd call experienced. He'd ridden for 25 years, and she'd been a passenger for 25 years. She'd bought a bike herself (a nice Harley) and felt qualified to ride it since she'd been a passenger so long. She'd dropped it three times, hard enough to need repairs, before the service manager compt'd her to the class. Hubby went with her to keep her company. The husband was a shambles at the beginning... he'd ridden wrong for 25 years and it was in muscle memory. By the end of the class, he'd actually improved dramatically, and was very glad to have taken even the introductory class. The wife dropped the Buell Blast so many times that she was flunked out. I was considering the Experienced class, but I think I'll skip it. I took the Ride Like A Pro class (they offer it here), and I'll go find a parking lot to practice. Dave

Double H Sintered PADS
Dave77459 replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I used EBC sintered pads on my Suzuki and love them. Thanks for reminding me to get these for my RSTD, because it'll need them this summer. But... are you having the shop change your pads? Say it ain't so! Dave -
OK, I am literally to blame for this. I signed up at Harbor Freight, and when I clicked My Account, I was given someone else's information. I notified HF and they put their site on maintenance until they discovered the reason. I must say that I applaud their action. This is a financial hit for them, but they have shown that they are committed to being a class act and protecting their customer's privacy. Good on them.

Resurrecting an old thread instead of opening a new.... I went to poke around the store, didn't see the trailer, and asked. Harbor Freight doesn't carry it in the store, and I'd have to order it via the website... and pay the $75 in shipping, or maybe $89.95--the page shows both. They no longer drop ship items to stores. My question is whether anyone has tried to put a cooler on the tongue? Must it be stretched? What's involved with putting bigger tires on, and/or putting on grease fittings? Dave

Thanks for he feedback and suggestion. There's a couple RSTD's fixin' to install these, and I'll wait until I see their experience. I think I understand what you are saying. Where does one get voltmeter leads? Radio Shack? Dave
-
What if you powered it directly from the battery, a relay energized from the accessory plug? At least it wouldn't cut out during ignition... would it? Thanks for your remarks on your experience to date. Dave
