  1. I recall a lot of words about the engine on the Kaw being really hot. Was that not your experience? Dave
  2. Hwy 6 @ Hwy 90, about a mile from here, recorded 4.1" yesterday. It's drizzling here already. The tires came inflated to 60#! I just couldn't bring myself to run them at 15#, but I did drop them to 25#. I checked the hubs at each stop, and they got warm but not hot. At one point, we tried outrunning a cell and rode at 75mph. They still didn't get hot. I do want to get that grease you recommended (Kendall Blue?). I've read that I shouldn't mix grease types, so I'll want to replace the grease completely. Can I just pop off the axle covers, connect it to the zirk, and replace the grease that is there? The trailer didn't come with greasing instructions. Thanks again for all your help! Dave
  3. I got home after dark last night, and with a midnight bike and midnight trailer, the photos would have been crap. I had plans today to go out to Shiner, but the forecast was for rain. My buddy called and said we should take a gamble, so we rode. As a result, I can now confirm that the trailer is water-tite. People said that after a while, you would forget that it was behind you. I haven't got there yet, but pulling it is a non-issue. It didn't even affect my gas mileage! Of course, it wasn't loaded heavy, but it felt really solid, like the bike and trailer were a cohesive unit. So here are some photos.... "It's a major award!" http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1088/4603399893_bd019d51d1.jpg They look well together. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3603/4607212129_5110d6f494_b.jpg The bright tail lights were welcome today. I upgraded to LEDs. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1195/4607211441_e624b81e90.jpg Water-tite. We rode through a Texas Flood. I like that the side has marker lights, and not just reflectors. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3573/4607822366_a14a252883.jpg
  4. $80 for the plastic paint.... How much overall, do you think? I have a friend who does RhinoLining... truck bed linings. I wonder if that is a reasonable alternative? The forward opening is a bit of a drag. Dave
  5. Looks great! Going to add a tongue cooler?
  6. Chances are good that I forgot to add that I am working, like, "We got done and hurried to dinner so that they could get home. I'll take photos when I get home from work and it isn't raining. :)" Maybe all'y'all haven't noticed that I like taking pictures of my girlfriend? No one is more committed to photographic evidence than I!
  7. Ok, I gotta get home, and then it's photo time.
  8. This isn't a photo, really, but it was created to give my non-riding friends a taste of what it's like on a bike. Plus you get to hear my voice, which I know will thrill you. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnEwtKI4ILQ]YouTube- Dave on the bike[/ame]
  9. We got done and hurried to dinner so that they could get home. I'll take photos when it stops raining. Dave
  10. Missed you. There wasn't nearly as much mayhem as when you are around. Do you really want to know about things that involve tongues and balls??? Thank you so much! I appreciate ALL your effort! Dave
  11. I ordered a Harbor Freight Tag-Along and it was delivered yesterday. Last evening, Squidley, his wife Sweetnothing, Jus Monkeyin' Around, and Ponch arrived to get me going in style. Yes, there were three Dave's gettin' her done. One of the side marker lights was busted in shipping, but I wanted LEDs anyways. So I was sent off to HF for a kit, and re-routed to Sears to get some washers to solve a parts issue. By the time I was back, they had the wheels on and were waiting on me to attach the drawbar. Everything went about as smoothly as you might expect with this crowd, mixed with HF stuff. In particular, the tongue coupler was misshapen and needed to be stretched. After some head scratching, Dave, Dave, and Lonna figured out how to do that and we had successful coupling! Brad did a terrific job of wiring the harness. I had no idea that it would go under the seat. I was thinking it would be tapped off the fender bundle. He gave me all first-class parts. I got the good stuff! All in all, these fine people gave me six hours of their time. I think the best, most enduring benefit of this site is the friendships that develop. I am extremely grateful. Thank you. Dave (Photos to follow when I tow it somewhere.
  12. Forgot this one. http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2502/4112779711_6ae0e9038b.jpg

  14. I got my first "Inside Track" coupons a few days ago, and went to buy some necessary stuff last night. I saved about $2 off of the $3 that the sale price already saved me. I think I spent $8 and the clerk said I saved $5+. I wanted to use the 20% magazine coupon (from Motorcycle Cruising) to buy my trailer, but it isn't sold in stores and the coupon doesn't work online. Dave
  15. Thanks y'all for your thoughts and experiences. I suppose I'll skip this tool. I'm shooting you a PM about this and another matter. Dave
  16. That sounds like a pretty good solution. :-( So you had a pipe that you tightened with a clamp, and used this tool to expand the "crimped" place? Then it broke? I had them on, but had to take them off to change the tire. This last time I put them back on I broke the block I was using to pound it on. I thought I got it on all the way, but I guess not. :-( Dave
  17. You would carefully make it too big? I gather you are one of those that believes size matters? Dave
  18. I have some popping on decel that has been traced back to an incomplete connection of my tail pipe to the headers/Y. I am running Road King / Harley Touring pipes, and they have always been a bear to install. I've not been able to get them to expand enough to slip on, so I end up whacking them to force them on. I'm not a fan of that. Can I use this Harbor Freight Large Tail Pipe Expander? Or maybe the medium or small? I mean, is this the right sort of tool for this job? 19. I searched for Venture. It was last on the list. Dave
  20. I got the Road Toad set, which you can still buy but don't seem to be made any longer. I rode 1500 miles back from the Grand Canyon in rain, and never got wet. My jauntlet gloves got soaked and my hands turned black from the ink, but that was it. Of course, I have the giant windscreen of the RSTD to hide behind.... My buddy riding the R 1200 GS got totally soaked in his North Face full gear, Dexter's Laboratory rubber gloves, and over boots. Had to laugh at him in his $$$ stuff and me in my $59 Frogg Toggs. That experience aside, there are problems. The nylon zipper has broken, so now all I have keeping my jacket together is the snaps. That happened half way back, so I put on my hi-viz vest and that sloughed off enough water that I still didn't get wet. The pants are not "generous in the seat", so they bunch up and feel tight. I am not getting wet, but the cold rain can make me feel wet. Remember when I said I put on the high-viz vest? These Road Toad set is "leather looking"... a dull brown colour. I think I want the Toadz Hornyz in Hi-Vis Green, because I want to be seen in bad weather. The problem with this model is I am not a fan of hoods, especially when they roll away to bunch at your neck and give you cramps. Well, and when they are under my helmet. I wonder if scissors could solve that problem? Meanwhile, I'll just plan on staying dry in my Road Toads. Dave
  21. The 100 LED taillight I just got from Custom Dynamics has red LEDs. The photo is with the lens removed. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4015/4580268798_037960592f.jpg
  22. Hey Hal, I am incredibly jealous. You have the potential for a trip with memories to last a lifetime. If you haven't done it, review the Iron Butt Association's Archive of Wisdom. The compilation of the IBA's hard-won experience is very valuable. If you want them, I have a pair if MSR fuel bottles you can borrow. A half gallon of fuel may not get you far, but if you run out, it may get you far enough. Let me know. Print the member assistance list! Have fun and ride safe. Dave
  23. Sorry, if you missed it, words can't adequately describe the cheesecake. To say it was fantastic would be close to the understatement of the year. Dave
  24. I can't believe I am just now getting to the computer! It was a really nice to see everyone, new friends and old. I'd like to single out Kenny for his whiz-bang carb sync'n. I only thought Roxie was running great before! BoomerCPO was a hoot, but holy-sheet that HID light of his was bright! And too, it was great to see Brad and Lonna settling in so well. Thanks for giving us a reason to get together. Dave
  25. Here is one discussion. I got mine from Advanced Auto and mounted it under the seat. Here's a photo showing a messy version of my airhorn relay and the auxiliary fuse box. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3542/3660208718_1eac068e6f.jpg Edit: I am not using a relay to energize the fusebox. I leave that decision for when I add accessories. For example, I am adding Powerlet's, and I want them unswitched. My fog lamps I have on a relay, as is the air horn. The LEDs I'll add won't be on a relay. &tc. Hope this helps! Dave
