  1. Wasn't this topic beat to death a week ago? Next up: "My dealer says there will be a new VMAX-based Venture this year" Dave
  2. Good point. While my Tag-Along trails very nicely, I did get some loud reverb when I put a larger cooler on the tongue. It wasn't bad with a small or no cooler. I'm planning on switching back to the quieter stock pipes when I take a long trip. Loud sounds are incompatible with long trips. Dave
  3. Cool! But kidding aside, would carrying a weapon like that be legal in Texas? Dave
  4. I run them on all the time, and have never been flashed. It could be that yours are adjusted too high. Dave
  5. Thanks for posting the solution. As more of us start towing trailers, this will add to our collective body of knowledge! Dave
  6. I risk my reputation by being serious for a minute. Squidley is good people, topped only by his lovely missus. Now, we return you to your regular programming.
  7. It seems to me that you are tapping the wrong wire. If I recall correctly from installing the run/brake conversion kit, there was a wire for running and another for brakes. If you get the right wire, there will be current only when the brakes are applied. Here are the installation instructions (PDF) for the kit I bought. It shows that you should tap the blue wire for brake lights. Hope this helps, Dave
  8. How interesting. I am very satisfied with my HJC, but I haven't tried a lot of brands. I'll need a new helmet soon; maybe I'll try one of the premium brands. Dave
  9. It's hard to imagine when comparing identical-looking garlic, that the one that costs 25% less is a lower value. I believe by 'value', you are suggesting a 'societal value' which is hard for Joe Customer to appreciate. Dave
  10. I interpreted his illustration as saying that you needed 2.5x the axle width. "If axle is 40 inches, then tongue should be 100 inches from center axle" 100 / 40 = 2.5 From my guesstimate of the axle length (36"), you get 36 x 2.5 = 90 90" is considerably more than my guess of a 66" long tongue. However, it is much less than the 10' you derived. I can say that the trailer pulls very well with no problems. I was advised to load it with the heavy stuff up front, so maybe that is the reason it pulls so well. Maybe? Dave
  11. This is two votes for Columbiaflag.com, but it is based in SC and doesn't seem to have any relation to AZ? A search of their site for 'motorcycle' returns 'Sorry... No items were found to match your query. Please try again!' Not sure why it is getting suggested twice? Dave
  12. If you buy a flag for your bike, I'd advise you to look for the features mentioned in my link. I've seen lots of cheap flags tatter quickly. They may be OK for simple display, but they are flogged at highway speeds. 6" x 9" and is made from a very durable 35% cotton, 65% polyester blend that can withstand highway wind speeds. It has a 1/2" sleeve that fits the 9" poles nicely. This flag is double-sided and double-stitched for a high quality flag you can count on! The double siding and double stitching is important. Below is my USA flag after 10,000 or so miles. It's still in great shape! Be aware that there different sized poles as well, and the flag sizes differ. Mine uses 6x9 flags. 13. This is my practice as well. It doesn't take too long to overflow. If I am riding in a group, I typically fuel first. By the time they are done dawdling, especially if there are gals needing to make a comfort stop and are wearing chaps, I'll have an expanding puddle under the bike. Dave
  14. Thanks, but FlagCo seems to be out of GA. I appreciate the response, Dave
  15. I understand how you think so. My purpose to buy the flag and fly it is political. However, my question is not. I am seeking information that Mr. Google hasn't helped much with. Our membership has local knowledge that I admire and seek. If it heads political, please do squash the thread. Hopefully, I'll get an answer before it gets there. Or lock it, and invite respondents to PM me. Dave
  16. Does anyone know of a source for a high quality 6"x9" AZ state motorcycle flag, made and sold in AZ? Lacking that, how about made OR sold in AZ? I am thinking of one like this, but I am buycotting AZ. Dave
  17. I didn't know about 29Dreams. That makes me wonder, how do you learn about such places? Adverts in magazines? Dave
  18. How is the axle length calculated? From the center of the tire? The "overall dimensions" of the HF Tag-Along (P/N 66771) is 78" L x 44-1/2" W x 38" H. Looking at the photo below, it looks like we can conservatively knock off a foot from the Length to get to the tongue length. If the axle length is the center of the tire, you can probably knock off 4" on either side... 8" overall. So L = 66" and W = 36". L / W = 1.8 Is that close enough? Certainly, it pulls fine up to extra-legal speeds, so I am not worrying. Just cipherin'. Dave http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3603/4607212129_5110d6f494.jpg
  19. Great information! Thanks. Dave
  20. I believe it will be a JIS screwdriver... like a Phillips head but a slightly different pitch. Make sure you go slow and be careful! Here's some instructions I found.... Getting a correctly aimed headlight is straightforward. You need to make a couple of measurements and then aim the light at a flat wall, as follows: With the bike upright on its wheels (off the side or center stand) and your weight in the seat, have a helper measure the distance from the floor to the center of the headlight lens. Pick a flat wall where you can locate the bike on level ground so the headlight is 17 feet from the wall. Place a horizontal mark on the wall two (2) inches lower than the height of the center of the headlight. With you again sitting in the seat adjust the vertical screw (usually at the very top or very bottom of a headlight next to the lens but inside a trim ring) so the flat top of the low beam is just to the line you put on the wall (a two inch drop at 17 feet). The horizontal adjustment (screw will be on the left or right side of the headlight lens) should center the beam ahead of the line of the bike. If you have spotlights use this same procedure to aim them. Go ride! Not sure how you adjust the light while you are sitting on the seat.....! Dave
  21. I am attaching the relevant document, but it seems that if you are facing the headlamp, the screw on the right is the vertical and the one on the left is the horizontal. Dave
  22. I had the same thing happen to me. Ace was the place for me. I ended up with a spacer and a washer that totalled the same as the spacer I had left. I bought a pair so that they would at least match. Dave
  23. Why? I rode 550 miles Friday and 340 miles today, and the trunk would have done what for me? We got caught in a storm today getting home, and my wife stayed mostly dry. Damp shins is all. Not sure how the trunk would have helped more than the big windscreen did? Honestly, they are both good touring bikes, able to run longer than your butt. I happen to like the looks of the RSTD better, but it came down to economics for me: I got a good deal on a gently used bike. The bike I could afford is the one I got. Dave
  24. A gal who handles a 400 mile ride out her first time is a gal to keep around. Just sayin'. Hope you enjoy your ride today. I presume you're riding since you aren't here saying you aren't. Dave
  25. I understand that the RSV's tank is bigger... 6.2 vs 5.6 for the RSTD? But the range is undoubtedly reduced by the size of the RSTD's windscreen. Dave
