Michael, I support your view that 'PM sent' is not very helpful in broadening our shared experience base. I also resurrect old threads, but try to make clear that it was old to start with. Dave

Taking a long time to start my RSTD
Dave77459 replied to phertwo's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I don't know what the solution to this is, but it isn't normal from my experience. On really cold days (40s and below), I might have to pull out the choke and crank it for a couple seconds. When it is warm, it is a half second pop and the bike starts up. At 4 or 5 seconds I would get off and sniff for gas. How does it idle? Slow do you think? Do you have plenty of power when you roll it on? I'm wondering about a weak fuel pump. Like I said, this is out of my experience and knowledge. Unfortunately, many of the people who have bright ideas are heading to the maintenance day in Ohio, and may not be around much for a few days. If you don't get suggestions, wait until Tuesday or so, then bump it to get some attention. Dave- 33 replies

Good news Boomer! http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1295/4707467296_6c52c00955_o.png -
That was hard to watch. I was never sure who was gonna get hit. Most unbelievable was the car that just slowly ran into the guy standing there. Wow.

Yeah, I'm on pins and needles about weather a trip to mudbug land is happening tonight!

Right on! C'mon Boomer, lock them pygmies in the closet and get that pump on and verified working! Dave

Anyone running an MT90HB-16 Front... Elite 3?
Dave77459 replied to Dave77459's topic in Watering Hole
That's great feedback! Very comforting, thanks! I felt that the E3 rear was a bit less nimble than the Avon rear I had been running. It felt more solid though. Just a bit different feel. I wonder how the front will feel... I'll find out soon! Dave -
Starting NOT in neutral

I'm gonna guess that the last thing he does is turn the bike off. Maybe. -
Anyone running an MT90HB-16 Front... Elite 3?

I really like the way the narrow tire handles. That's great news! I ordered the narrow front (and a new rear) Elite III. I look forward to comparing how it feels compared to the Avon. Thanks! Dave -
I recently returned to the stock pipes from a pair of Harley pipes. They are not whisper quiet like the Goldwings, but they are quiet. I am very much enjoying them. It's not too much work to change the pipes, and will give you a chance to learn more about it. My $0.02. Dave

Anyone running an MT90HB-16 Front... Elite 3?
Dave77459 replied to Dave77459's topic in Watering Hole
So the Dunlop narrow performs comparably to the Avon narrow? Be great if so! I'm sorry, I meant the stock size, not the stock tire. I couldn't recommend the stock tires to anyone. Dave -

I saw in another thread a discussion about squirrely tracking on bridge grates/decking. I'm planning on riding over the Mighty Mac in a month, and the inner lane is 5 miles of grating. I'm a little nervous about the narrow front on grating. I get some pucker from the deep grooving that TX has started to allow contractors to use during resurfacing. 5 miles of pucker would be a bit much. LOL How's the stock front run on the milling/grooving? Dave -

Did you run the Venom before? Comparison? I'm encouraged, thanks, Dave -
I have been running an Avon Venom "skinny" front tire, the MT90HB-16, since I switched out of the stock Brickstones. I love it. I am fixin' to order a new pair of tires, and see that there is an MT90HB-16 Front on the Dunlop Elite 3. I am trying out the E3s, and I wonder if anyone is running the skinny front E3? Maybe I should run the stock size (150/80-16) and see if I like it? Dave

How much work was it to take off the fender? That's a task I've never tried. Dave -
Great pics Kreg! Thanks, and it was good to see you. Dave

Did he point out his improvement, or did you notice it? I think it could come in handy! Dave

For those of you using or contemplating using the Mr. Gasket #42S fuel pump, be advised that the design has been "improved". Formerly, the input and output nipples were threaded into the pump. That allowed us to insert right- and 45 degree-pieces between the pump and the nipple, allowing the Mr Gasket pump to work for us. The new design has a fixed output nipple, and a long one at that. Consequently, I do not believe that the Mr. Gasket fuel pump will be an acceptable replacement. I went to a different store, and they had one old style pump in front of three new pumps. I snarfed that up, just in case I ever need another.

I think the single rear light is a huge negative. It is one of the first things I rectified. I used the Electrical Connection Turn Signal Conversion Kit (my how-to here) to add a donut of LED lights in the rear turn signals. You can see them easily below. Dave http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4015/4580268798_037960592f_b.jpg BTW, they turn off when the signal flashes, so you get a distinctive amber turn signal. http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1195/4607211441_e624b81e90_b.jpg

Prayers sent, and will continue.

You know replacing the fuel pump is a ten minute job. That will give him plenty of time on Monday or Tuesday to shine the Bat Signal with his HIDs, and I can get over there if needed. Maybe over the weekend I'll buy a Mr. Gasket and some fittings to have on hand for when I need it next time. If it isn't BoomerCPO, it might be someone else. Dave
