  1. Are you hiding geocaches? Sounds like that is what you are doing. http://www.geocaching.com Dave
  2. You could use decimal degrees. Divide the minutes by 60. 44.629250, -73.248683 (the minus is West and/or South) Lots of GPSr and programs like decimal degrees anyhoo. Dave
  3. On Firefox, you can right-click an image and select "Copy Image Location". On my Flickr images, I use the "All Sizes" link and copy the URL provided. I use the largest version available, and let VR downsize it for me. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4058/4354013829_2063c72646_o.jpg
  4. I have a trip to Michigan scheduled for Mid July. I have a trip to Utah scheduled for Labor Day. I'll need something done between, for sure. Even if not, tearing up someone else's bike is too much fun to pass by. I just got a bead breaker and some tire irons. We can change tires if need be. We'll need a better compressor than mine though. Dave
  5. Plausible... Ah, mystery solved! I've recently begun saying one thing while meaning another. I tell my wife it's because geniuses frequently think faster than their mouths can talk, so I am mentioning something several discussions in the future. Not sure she believes me. Dave
  6. Why is this post subjected 'axle bolt'? Is the axle somehow related to the crankshaft? Dave
  7. Knowing your not-quite-secret feelings about AIS plugging, this made me laugh! Thanks, Dave
  8. Congratulations! Dave
  9. After trying several gimballed holders, I am using a foam koozie over the gas cap: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4064/4373082434_ffb5e9ed0a.jpg If you drink it down just a tad, a styrofoam 64-oz cup works great. Drink it down to prevent toppling moment. http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3399/4650444516_b8eec4bb38_b.jpg This is, no lie, the best-working drink holder I have tried. Dave
  10. As a data point, I ordered my set on 6/8 and it arrived at the office on 6/17. 9 days or so, almost all of which was tied up in Customs apparently. Of course, it came to the office on a Saturday on a weekend when I had nothing to do, and I got it on a Monday. Ahhh, the wasted time I could have spent having fun. :'-( Dave
  11. I've always wanted to fly in a float plane. Looks like a great time! Dave
  12. Kregerdoodle!
  13. I have just the opposite fear... electricity scares the crap out of me. Amazing list of projects; congrats! I couldn't agree more! Dave
  14. Isn't that Kenny / Kbran? He's ace with the carb tune. Dave
  15. Nice! I did something similar with a Powerlet, since they are meant to carry current, unlike cigarette lighters. But what I wanted to mention is that I used a "step bit" on my drill. It's shaped like a ziggurat, with a series of slight larger diameter steps as you drill deeper. It worked perfectly with the plastic, letting you get bigger and bigger holes until you find the size you want. 16. It looks like you click to update your location? I reckon the SPOT works even when you aren't able to click. I use Google Latitude, which shares my location with those I designate. My wife can see when I am moving, or not. She'll still worry when I am out of cell data areas. Dave
  17. First, I've used the video technique way too many times. I've never admitted it, and am not now, but someone foggy headed and worn out on an ironbutt forgot to put down the kickstand and it laid on it's side. Then, it went over on the other side after being lifted up. So, this person got two turns to practice the maneuver, and it worked even when this person was tiiiiiired. Second, I know that my lower body strength has improved much after getting my bike. I could barely roll it when I first got my bike. Now I can back the bike up, even on hills. If you are a bit understrong now, it will change. But thirdly, good on you for practicing the maneuver. Keep at it and you will be able to do it. Even on an ironbutt. Dave
  18. I believe I would try one of the jaw bone conduction bluetooth headsets. These [optionally] use vibrations from your jaw bone instead of the microphone, so you can be understood in noisy environments... like on a bike. Since they don't pick up ambient sound, they are perfect for this application. I've seen great reviews for the Motorola Endeavor HX1 bluetooth headset, but there are many makers claiming this tech. The HX1 supposedly comes from military special ops tech. I wear a helmet, and I find in-ear bluetooth devices uncomfortable generally, and particularly with a helmet. Good video review here. 19. I'm getting the Gadsden Flag, a POW flag, a Texas flag, and an AZ flag. In my flag searches, I have not seen a yammie flag. Here's where I got my flags; they are enroute now, so I have only their say-so as to quality. 6" x 9" is a common moto-flag size here in the States.
  20. 108F isn't such a big deal. What, 96 or so with some humidity? Very doable. The thing I've learned about myself is that I can't rehydrate in such weather. If I become deficient, I can't catch up. I sweat faster than I can intake and process. So, I "pre-hydrate". If I know I am riding a long ways on Friday in hot weather, I start drinking more than normal on Tuesday. That way my cells are all plumped up with water to give. Then I don't need to drink gallons on Friday. I like the TripTrack site. I wonder if there is such a thing for Android? It would keep my wife from worrying when I ride 5-700 miles every other Friday (my day off). It's a little sad that you spent so much time on the super slab, but that's how you get from here to there. Dave
  21. If you can't be bothered to get gas in the 30-50 miles you have after the count up starts, you deserve to run out during a high speed pass. I leave mine on reserve all the time. About two weeks ago I was fiddling with the fuel pump and accidentally left the petcock on Run. I did run out of gas then, because it never occurred to me that I couldn't go more than 14 miles on the count up. Oops, turned it to reserve and have left it there. Dave
  22. Terrific feedback, thanks! I now have the tires in the garage and am waiting for Father's Day to bring me the goods to change them out.
  23. I wear heavy box-toe boots, and could not get comfortable with my toe under there. When I wear lighter shoes, the shifter seems too high. So I started heel shifting and it works well for me. I guess I don't notice lifting my foot; I shift my feet around anyways. And maybe it's a heavy guy thing, but I am a lot stronger pushing down with my whole leg than pulling up with my toe/ankle. *shrug* Glad you found something that works for you. Dave
  24. As a test or possible fix, you can get a "Mr. Gasket 42S" fuel pump for cheap at the auto parts store (I found mine at Advanced Auto). With a length of hose and a pair of inline splices, you can insert the fuel pump into the system. If that solves the problem, then you can either install the Mr. Gasket (as I did) or hold onto it as a spare. If you go this route, make sure you get the older style Mr. Gasket where the output needs the nipple to be installed. The new Mr. Gasket has a fixed output nipple that prevents you from using some fittings necessary to install it in our bike. Dave
