Thanks. How do you know if they are 12 volt? I feel kinda foolish not knowing what voltage my walls are. I guess the thing to do is grab one, hook alligator clips to it, and connect it to the battery? If I connect it backwards, will they send LED fragments hither and yon? Ditto if they can't handle 12 volts? I feel like a Mythbuster, only more dangerous and more clueless. Dave

My daughter had friends over who damaged the string of C3 LED Christmas lights we strung on the back patio. I've replaced them and want to re-purpose the damaged set for holiday illumination of my bike. I want to wrap the luggage rack behind the passenger seat (note: I have an RSTD). Is it easy to run these LED Christmas lights from the bike? Or is there some current monkeying that I need to do? Ideally, I'd wire them into a Powerlet plug, and run them from the jack. Dave

Where are y'all finding the quick-release windscreen sets? It doesn't sound like you are removing the brackets from the existing screen, so where? Off-topic, but has anyone sourced a quick-release backrest? I want to add a fuel cell in place of the backrest for LD riding. Dave -
I like Motorcycle Cruiser, but it seems impossible to renew my subscription, so I guess it will lapse. I also read Ride Texas for the more local content. I enjoy IRONBUTT (a perk of being an IBA Premier member) for the very specialized articles. Dave

Glad to hear! Hard to believe anything injected with Tony's wouldn't be good!

In the spirit of completeness, here are my stocks, followed by H-D touring pipes. Road King Mufflers?????
Dave77459 replied to TearlessTom's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I felt I had the sound coming from under the bike as well. I discovered that the left pipe wasn't on all the way. I ended up buying a pipe expander to open it up more, and it slid on solidly. The sound was then more aft. Or maybe I imagined it. LOL I didn't really "get" how much louder they were until I pulled a trailer with a full size cooler on it. Then the sound bounced back at me and whoa! Knowing I had 8,000 miles of trailering coming up, I removed them for the Summer. Now I appreciate the quieter ride. Road King Mufflers?????
Dave77459 replied to TearlessTom's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Hi. Welcome to the site. I hope you enjoy your stay, and feel you get enough value to feel like you can contribute. I had stock H-D touring bike mufflers on mine. I went to the dealership and asked for some take offs, and he gave them to me for free. I don't know if they are Road King or Ultra Classic or what, but the price was right. I enjoyed them for a time. Maybe a little deeper, certainly a lot louder -- loud enough to hear the engine and learn not to fear high RPMs. Sounded like an F-1 race car to me, and I liked it. I've since taken them off. The loud sound was tiring on long distance rides. I value keeping attentive on LD rides now. I don't think there was much "loud pipes save lives" going on, either; most of the sound was behind me, where following vehicles could see my bright tail lights receding over the horizon. I'd advise you to get a stock pair. You can always drill them out if they aren't loud enough for you. Good luck. Dave -
What a nice, nice offer. How blessed are we to have members here of such wonderful generosity? We're set, and are hosting a few strays, but thank you! Dave

Squidley and I talked about these bulbs (the Ultras) at lunch today. I've gotten approximately 40,000 miles/20 months out of mine. Several riders that I've followed have accused me of having my high beams on. They are simply very bright and have worked extremely well for me. Dave

I ran Avons for 30,000 miles with no cracking issues. Just a little experience balance. *shrugs* Glad to have some good reports on ME880s. Thanks Bobby G. Dave

New Guy Questions?
Dave77459 replied to TearlessTom's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Hi, My comments are in red bold, below. Dave -
If they are aimed correctly, why would they blind on-coming traffic? Their pattern is akin to low beams...?

My commodities-loving friends have suggested buying CEF (ticket symbol). Its a Canadian fund that buys and holds tangible gold based on shares sold. The benefit is liquidity, but it trades like a commodity. They also suggested buying silver. It is under-valued right now compared to its historical relationship to gold. My buddy is using SilverSaver.com to buy and hold silver each paycheck.

I always admired my dad, who gave blood enough to earn a "5 Gallon" coffee cup. I began giving in High School, and attained the "3 Gallon" cup. I live in Houston, a hot spot for medical research. My last donation, they asked if I would be willing to have an extra vial drawn for testing of a new, faster AIDS test. I agreed, and the results of the test showed that I had AIDS. It was a false positive. Three additional tests confirmed that the experimental test screwed up. Even so, Federal law says that if you ever test positive for AIDS, even a false positive, you can never again give blood. So now, I can never again give blood. Yeah, I'm still bitter.

Great to see y'all! Sorry I didn't hang more, but the combination of sun and cold meds proved tiring! Here's some photos. I wish I knew how you got on the balcony. I couldn't bear the thought of navigating through those crowds again.

I plan to be there then. I'm collecting a buddy on the way, and I am sure we'll need something HOT pretty soon after arrival. Dave

I understood the Ultra was heavier duty. I've had my Ultra for almost 50,000 miles without problem. Dave

One of the housings was busted on my trailer when it arrived. During assembly, I just ran to Harbor Freight and bought their LED trailer kit. $20 or so? They are really, really bright. It was simple for the guys who knew what they were doing to install. Dave

It is sickening to click on Texas and see NO real gas within hundreds of miles from Houston. I hope it isn't a comprehensive list, but I fear it is.
