Since the better half was already gone with my truck to Utah, I spent my 50th birthday on the bike. I took off just heading nowhere on I-35 North toward Austin. I got up to Round Rock and took a left on a little windy Farm road. Ended up FM 962. It has to be one of the funnest rides that I have been on in a while. I could have called Lonestar Medic or Tom, but wanted to just get away. Beautiful weather and it just started getting cold when the sun went down. I called my wife in Utah and she cussed me out for bragging about the weather. SORRY Thats not me in the picture

I will be there. I need all the support I can get to keep from trading it in on a GW. Need address though, Thanks. Let me know if there is anything to bring for food, nourishment, or quenching thirst

Heads up display problem
SapperMedic replied to SapperMedic's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Couldn't find a suitable fuse block so I am ordering the whole shebang from Doc. I should have it this week sometime. I jerryrigged the bad fuse with a single fuse connection until It comes. Lonestar, I will get your stuff back to you this week, and then will do the swap on Thursday or Friday -
oops pics are too small, go to their facebook page. "ride for the fallen"

I went to the site and looked at their facebook page and there it was a 1st Gen. Must have been UTAdventure

Adventure, I appreciate you doing that for The Soldiers. I have a Personal Friend that I lost while I was deployed with the Utah National Guard in Afghanistan, so you you will be riding on my behalf for Scott Lundell from the 19th SF Group. He was a big ol Teddy Bear that would do anything for you. He trained harder than any of the rest of us and was the only loss we had that deployment. The World lost a real hero. I still wear his bracelet since I got back. MSG (ret) R Brian Wilkinson 1st Corps Artillery Embedded Team Trainer Afghan National Army/Police

Every once in awhile my display would just go away. This was usually a short period, like when it was first started. Yesterday it went away along with my Tach, turn signals, and brake lights. When I first turn on the key it is there, but if I engage the front brake or lift the side stand then it is gone. I'm thinking ground wire somewhere, but where should I start? does the side stand have a ground on it? I am electically challenged also but do have a Fluke meter (and a very rudimentary understanding of how to use it). It would have to happen right when I am working full-time, going to school full time, and the inspection is due this month. HELP

I am more curious who it is, since his Ebay handle is VentureriderXVZ
-
thanks but wrong bike, I saw that one and am interested also in that one. Price is right

I noticed on Flea Bay that "VentureriderXVZ" was selling a 2001 wing. From the description he must have gone to Ark for the Rally but I don't recognize the handle. I am looking for a wing to go with the first gen. I am still a little weak with the top heavy Venture with the boss on back and we rode a wing and felt a lot better. I will keep my blackcherry baby for one up riding though.

You could count me in for 2 cagers and 1 for the money pit (1st Gen) Let me know when you get a figure.

I ordered the sunglass set with just my single vision prescription. I figured that I didn't need bifocals in a sunglass. They fit tighter (that's good for me and the helmet) and are really comfortable. I have vision insurance and got a set of no line/transition/scratch-proof/fancy set from Walmart ($380 if Ididn't have insurance) and they do almost as good of job. Make sure you measure the PD (pupilary distance). I just estimated (in the mirror with a ruler) and I was off by 7 mm and I can kinda tell. Most optometrists leave it off the prescription. $44.50 with shipping and well worth it Wilkie

All I can say is Don't Ride It!. Lonestarmedic says it rides pretty nice, and we saw a naked one when the victory truck came to town, The frame is a work of art, But it is on the scary ugly side:173:

Right now we have the biggest BRAC (base realignment and closure)Project in the Nation, read that as Uncle Sugar is paying. Fort Sam Houston is hiring by the dozens. All of the military medical training for all the services is moving here. And Brooke Army Medical Center is doubling in size. You can get a fairly nice place here cheaper than Houston (2000 square feet, $88,000) and you would have all of our good looking (and a couple of ugly) mugs to hang out with. Whatever you decide, be assured that we will do anything we can to assist your family. I checked the postings and there are 3 different construction companies hiring for construction welders. Check out www.cpol.army.mil also

It all depends on the rain and your speed , a light or medium rain will be OK with the fairing and windshield as long as you are moving. I was coming home one day and it started to rain lightly, my boots got a little wet from the road but I arrived home almost completely dry.........but another time I was feeling pretty good and the rain was barely hitting me on the freeway then I got to the exit and the light at the bottom. I got more soaked in the 2 minutes waiting for a green light than the 20 minutes on the freeway. Buy a set of rain gear and store them in a saddlebag. You never know

If I remember right, the "unofficial" rule is donate $5 for a drop and $10 for a fall, It insulates you from the next one........not that I would know about that (in front of ALL my riding partners on a military ride)

intercom, headset questions
SapperMedic replied to nosvet's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I bought 2 headsets with the cables from powersports2go on e-bay for $146 a few months ago. they are the ones for the open face but my wife and I really like them and they work great without and extra things to buy. Shipped Free Two (2) Goldwing Open Face J&M Headset HS-8154-OFB for the open face or HS-8154-FFB for full face, Sierra Electronics sells them also but they are $80 each plus shipping -
One more thing to look for, after the mechanical part is to look at the fairing/sides/plastic in general. Look at the bottom part of the trunk, they are notorious for cracking there. Also around the stereo/CB. Pull all the little black screw covers off and look in each crevice. This won't affect the ride, but it will affect your pocketbook when you start to try to fix them. Take off or look under the leather bags on the front fairing they crack right there also. The mechanical stuff will keep you from riding it home, but the asthetic stuff will be something you beat yourself up over if you don't check it. Mine looked perfect to me when I bought it, but when I got it home I had to rebuild 4 of the broken little tabs that held the CB/air shock controls in place. Nothing that can't be fixed, but a dang good bargaining point for a bike that is on the high side of the book value. I paid $3400 for mine with 18,000 miles on it and he had replaced tires/stator/front and rear brakes/rotors/and all the cables. I got lucky and I hope you do too. I still get offers to sell mine on a regular basis so the market for them is good. Good luck

I taped over a funeral for one of my soldiers. He fell asleep at the wheel and his parents asked to borrow the camcorder. they had already recorded it so I reused the tape. I wished mine turned out as nice as yours. My trip on the river road, I zip tied the camcorder to the luggage rack. Longer but not very exciting, except for the occassional bikini in the river
-
OK first of all you can hear my venturerider guardian bell hanging off the clutch cable, second I was riding with one hand holding the camcorder with the other. This weekend I bought a helmet mounted mini recorder that uses an sd card. It is about the size of a ping-pongt ball, mounts to the helmet and gives you up to 90 minutes of recording on a 2 gig card. Costco $99. I haven't tried it out yet but I am copying over my trip along the river road near Groene. Try this one first. Out in Luchenbach Texas with Tom, JerryW and the boys
SapperMedic replied to SapperMedic's topic in Watering Hole
I actually was able to record the short video from our trip to dvd, along with a longer video of a. trip through Groene and down along the river road. neither of them was much good though. the first one I was holding the camera with my left hand as we road, the second, I zip tied it to the luggage rack. Stephen Spielburg I ain't. But I don't know how to rip small parts of it to the computer anyway. Thanks again Tom, I had a blast and I am going up to Leakey soon to kinda scope out how the area. I think I can talk JB in to going, if I can get him out of the garage. The man is a electrical wiz. He was wiring a light bar when I left him today after installing his Garmin to run his cell phone, MP3, GPS, etc....though the sound system. Very clean install. It just means that now I have to drop $400-500 on the bike again. Do we have any divorce lawyers as members? I may need one- 3 replies
