1. I sent one home with TBRinMO's son when I sold him the bike, send him a message, he may sell it. He said his dad had one on his bike already
2. As most Know, I decided to sell the 86 VR to buy a bike that had a lower seat height. I found a 00 Royal Star in good shape in Austin and went to pick it up yesterday. (missed the Maint Day in Houston). It has plenty of power and is in excellent shape. BUT. I can feel every ridge and bump in the freeway. Maybe I was spoiled with the CLAS on the VR, But I can seen why this guy said he had back problems. It has Avon tires on it, so that may be part of it. I noticed very little rear suspension travel and felt like it may have bottomed out a time or two. Now the prior owner was 6' 3" and about 250, but I am only 190, so what's up>
3. I served in Afghanistan in 2006-2007. The food was fine, but you do lose the weight from carrying the 90+ lbs of Body armor on you all the time. Since I was an embedded trainer with the Afghan Army then the police we had to be out of the wire all the time. Thank The Lord for Uparmored Rigs and the body armor. Most of us bought our own Tactical Gear (more comfortable armor carriers, scopes, Holsters etc.) The issued stuff was fine, but you want the best advantage while you're there. My Battle Buddy bought a new longer barrel/ upper receiver for his M-4.(increased range) We installed used windshields around the gunners hatch for "chicken shields" until they came up with something better. I understand your frustration at having to purchase stuff that should be issued, they are fielding new things all the time so it should get better.
4. We just had 2 of the motorcycle shops merge here in San Antonio. It was time to replace the brakes on the ol Black Cherry so I went to Yamaha of SA. On my other bike I bought the brakes from E-Bay for $45 (give or take) for all 3 sets, and they work great. This time I didn't want to wait so I went local. The parts guy (new from the closed store) looked them up and said "they list rear brake pads and a front brake "kit". When he brought them up it was only 3 sets of pads of course. he told me "it's $39.89 for the rear pads and $137.89 for the fronts!. I am pretty sure he was looking at it wrong, I didn't mind paying the 40 bucks for the front, but I am almost sure that the fronts must have flakes of gold enbedded in them. That would be almost $70 a set! I asked him to look again and he said "You're welcome to drive to Austin if you don't like it."Needless to say I ordered them from E-Bay again and will have to wait 3 days.
5. Tom, I have ruined a perfectly good 4 day weekend, (School Thursday night, and meeting Saturday morning) We are riding out that direction on Friday though.
6. JT had it right, after getting it up on the center stand tonight, the was a piece of highway snake up in there. I must have rocked it back enough to stop rubbing after I stopped. little bitty thing but it sure scared me. Awhile back I saw one come of a semi in front of me. If I had been 50 yards closer it mighta ruined my day.
7. I was coming home from work tonight on the freeway, when all of a sudden it was like I put my foot on the brakes. I started to slow even with more throttle. I got off the exit and stopped at a light. Pulled over and looked all the way around the bike in the semi-darkness of a gas station. It had smoke coming from underneath but no oil or anything. definite burning rubber smell but I couldn't see anything stuck somewhere. started it back up and it revved fine. pulled out and it ran just like normal. when I got home I shined a flashlight all the way around and can't find anything. 86 Venture with 28,000 miles. I replaced the brakes and tires about 1500 miles ago. Rear end was lubed about 5,000 miles ago and the oil changed last month. I wonder about a dragging rear brake, but the peddle felt fine and I pushed down hard on both front and rears before stopping. Anyone ever have this problem? I worried I might be melting a clutch but I would think that it wouldn't go away like that
8. :lightbulb:Great Idea, I had to hunt and hunt to find Rick's Butt Butler post. It would make it easier also for the newbies to find the parts that DO work for our Old(er) bikes.
9. I have been really lucky, in that the Yamaha shop is also the Victory shop here. They see me once or twice a month for something on the ol girl. The owner keeps trying to talk me out of 86, but won't go low enough on the 2009 he has on the floor. I have ridden the Vision Tour Premium at the last Test Ride Day. Oh Goodness, after riding my 1st gen, the fuel injection kicked in and I was at 90 mph quick. The only complaint I had was the 6 Speed (yes 6) shifted HARD. I felt like I was gonna break something every shift. My friend rode the cross country and bought one. The problem now is that they are completely out of the tour premium. Well I'm waiting for it to get cold up north and some of y'all to realize that you didn't get to ride much and sell me your 2nd gen for dirt cheap.
10. I am an EMT, plus a nurse, and I know JB (lonestarmedic) is an EMT-P
11. I went up to fuel up at my neighborhood gas station for a nice little trip down to Corpus Christi, I saw this and had to take a few shots. My question is, why on the trailer though? The guy is from Houston, headed home. The other bike is a Valkarie trike so I wasn't as impressed. I wonder how much HP that Chev power plant puts out? 12. Then don't try the Victory Vision Tour Premium. It handles better than the Voyager and is "oh my #$%^%" fast on acceleration. If you can get past the Buck Rogers style, the passenger rides very nicely. We tested them both a few months ago and when I finish school, I am getting one (yes, 50 year olds have to go to school).
13. Thanx for the suggestion about re-syncing the carbs. I will try that. Now the piece that I was looking for is now gone from E-bay. Shoulda pulled the trigger earlier:snow:
14. I Lernt tu spel wif huked awn phonix.
15. I was riding home a few weeks ago, when I noticed that the CLASS system door was riding up into the wind. When I got home I found that the latch had broken off of the door somehow and now I am on the lookout for another. I found one on Flea Bay, but @ $79 + shipping, it is a little like blowing a tire in the little town with one tire shop, you know you need it, you just know you are going to pay through the nose for it. Also, I have noticed a harmonic vibration in the handlebars that is making my hands go to sleep. Any ideas? I have 5600 mile on the front tire, but the tread still looks good.
16. I guess #62 would be a better choice. That way I could haul the rest of them and my first gen.
17. Picture # 19 and 25 are two that I would swim through alligator alley to get. Unfortunately I am not a self made (or any other) millionaire:cool10:
18. I found out about this story when I was in Utah for my Moms funeral. The guy scammed a lot of people and is getting everything that he deserves. BUT can you imagine owning all these cars. By the way, there is a venture there so it is related (sort-of) I really like the classic cars, but there are some beautiful bikes and the first gen looks like it is in good shape too. Anyone have some serious cash to spend on some new toys? Go to the pictures next to the story. http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=10046613
19. I am using Audible.com to load a book or 2 on the SD card for my Zumo for our trips also. it works great
20. Yes, it is still up and running, but not near as bads as the one in Windcrest. My neighbor got 2 speeding tickets in one day. 1 for 27 in a 25 and the the other for 29 in 25. I stay at 20 MPH when going to church.
21. OK, My wife has all her books on her Ipod, she says there are a few secrets to do it. 1. In I-Tunes, Highlight the entire book, after you load all the CD's on your computer. 2. Right Click on get info. 3. Make sure Artist Name is the same, and the Same Name. On The Album, put the name of the book. (no disc #'s) 4. Click on Options, Look at Media Kind and change to Audio Book. click yes on compilation and remember position. Then click OK 5. After syncing your Ipod, go to music and instead of selecting audiobooks, go one more down to search and find the name of the book. 6. Select the Book, make sure your not shuffling and it goes right through each chapter 7. It picks up where you left off, or you can go by chapters. Good Luck, It is quite a trial for me, but the rear navigator has it down to a science.
22. Well I got everything in the mail, and I think I will like the Zumo 550 and will be getting rid of the streetpilot 2730. It works great. I updated it, but had to do it with my laptop in the truck because I don't have an AC adapter (just purchased one on E-Bay). I like that the Zumo has a battery in it. The Streetpilot has a 20 gig HD for music and books, but came with no XM Antenna. I think I will sell it for what I am in it. Anybody interested before I put it on E-Bay? $220 with the AC Adapter/Auto stand/cigarette lighter-speaker and unit shipped to you in US/Canada. (sorry Annie if you want it. I will have to check on shipping down under). It would still need the motorcycle mount and wiring for the bike ($37.00)
23. the Zumo works great except I have to charge it through the computer and of course NO SOUND. I found the complete kit on E-Bay for $107. I will have to wait until I get the other to make the decision, but If I get rid of the Zumo, Eck you can have it for what I paid plus shipping
24. I have a small problem now. I bid on a Garmin 2730 on the 23rd of Dec and then promptly forgot about it because it was only for $199. Then the other day I was in a pawn shop. (my wifes family owns 2 and I am addicted) and saw a Zumo 550 (no mount or cable) for $20!!!!!!. When I got home I found out that I won the 2730 also. Which one should I mount? I have to buy the complete wiring and mount for the zumo, but think I would prefer it afterwards. What do you think?
25. Here's a picture from Tom and I's trip last summer.
