I asked my wife for a new set of tires for the RSV for Christmas, and gave her what I thought was pretty specific instructions on what I needed. She came back yesterday from the dealer and asked me to check on what she purchased before she wrapped them. I had told her that I was going to try a 130 in the front and maybe that is what confused her. Instead of a 150/90-15 for the rear, she bought a 170/80-15 because the dealer didn't have the right size but told her that they are essentially the same in height. I did a spec comparison and the 170's are supposed to be 7.36 inches wide and have a sidewall height of 10.71 inches vs the 150 is 6.6 inches wide and sidewall 10.63. Has anyone ran this size on their RSV before. It seems pretty negligible in differences and may not be worth the hassle of sending it back. If I make a big thing of it, then I may never get anything for the bike from the wife ever again, but if it won't work, it has to be done. Thoughts?

Texas members - stay high and dry this weekend
SapperMedic replied to XV1100SE's topic in Watering Hole
Watching out the window now, looks kinda ominous, but the weather service said tomorrow and Sunday will be the worst. It was raining hard enough earlier that my wife said there were neighbor kids wakeboarding down the main street of our subdivision.....and it is long and sloped. -
That's great Freebird, They are getting harder to find (the good ones). I still can't understand why it was voted one of GM's failures. Of Course they also voted the Plymouth Prowler as one of them too. I just wish that Ford still made the Excursion Diesel, (No MPG at all, but gobs of power)

OK just to get it out there, Yes I have an RSV and not a Harley so towing it shouldn't happen very often, but we want to be able to take my bike with us when we visit the kids and family in Utah and can't haul everything on the bike. I saw an add on my Facebook page for these Stinger Trailers that don't take up too much room and we could easily tow it with my wife's car or my truck and then enjoy the beauty of the rides throughout Utah and Colorado without having to Ironbutt it all the way through Texas. Any thoughts? I didn't like the design that didn't have side floor boards, but they now come standard. I looked at some others but at less than $2000 shipped, this looked the best. http://stingertrailer.com/

Son has a purple one now and loves it, Thanks Stache for the Clutch lever site, we already put a spring mod on it to get rid of the freeplay in the lever and that would help lengthen that sweet spot for low speed maneuvers

1st job employment experiences,, oh those wonderful first jobs..
SapperMedic replied to cowpuc's topic in Watering Hole
My first real job was working at Smartline Dairy after school at age 14, I made $1/hr feeding calves, hauling hay bales, mucking out stalls and spraying out the milking room after the 2 pm milking. I honestly don't think I earned my pay though. We messed around too much and got in corn cob fights all the time. Mr Smart (his real name) would good naturedly get after us, but I still remember get hit in the head with a piece of sileage (corn cob) from about 60 yards that he threw. I found out later he was a fast pitch softball player and had learned to pitch throwing corn cobs -
testing ignition switch
SapperMedic replied to SapperMedic's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I bought a new fuse block and relay but am worried about the plug itself, since it is pretty much toasted. Hoping I can dig things out with a knife or may have to cut and put on individual connections. What are your thoughts and can I just buy a new connector somewhere. -
testing ignition switch
SapperMedic replied to SapperMedic's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I found the problem ( I think) When I was trying to take the connections off the starter relay, the main fuse block and connector crumbled in my hand. Guess it is another trip to Kent Motorsports -
After a good long time playing with the Easy Out to get the ignition switch loose and then taking it apart, everything looks fine. I cleaned all contacts and scuffed them, Before putting the switch back together, Is there a way off testing the switch itself? All the solders look good and I touched them up with the soldering iron just to be safe. The worry I have is that I put the bypass together on the bike and still have no power to anything. I have a Fluke meter but am only seeing 2.47 volts coming through the red and Brown/blue wires, I have no idea on Ohms and all that and don't know what to test and where. I would think with the bypass in place I would have power to the starter.

2nd Gen main fuse location

Here's a picture of my fuses on the left side, Nothing else I must be looking in the wrong place, or the PO moved it somewhere else -
2nd Gen main fuse location
SapperMedic replied to SapperMedic's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Nothing, I thought that it was just a dead battery from all the lightning and storming that we have had down here in Texas the past couple of weeks, but new gel battery did not fix the problem, I am ordering on of your bypass kits anyway, since I have the tank off. I checked the red-brown/blue wires at the switch and nothing, still don't see the main fuse though, just the 5 fuse block on the left side. It isn't with the other fuses in the front right lower fairing is it. If I jump across the red wire to the brown/blue I should get something I would think, since that is what we bypass in an emergency right? -
I think my ignition switch has gone bad, but before I tear it apart and drill out the bolts to put a new one in, I thought I would start looking at the fuses. The problem is, I know I have seen the 30 Amp main fuse before but now cannot find it. I looked in my owners manual and service manual and it shows like it is right next to the other fuse panel behind panel B on the Left Side but I cannot see it. Am I looking in the wrong spot?

So Far, the weather has spared my house along the way. We have had a LOT of rain and wind, but still ahead of the curve. On the other hand, It has been crazy all the way around us. The was a tornado that touched down near Tom's town (Blanco) about an hour ago, On Monday there was Tornado warnings around JB's and I haven't heard how Kregg, Brad and the Southeast Texas group are doing. Just when we start to brag about being able to ride 300+ days a year, we get this mess. Tom summed it up well today on facebook " The Blanco River hit an all time flood level at 42 Feet...... Before the water got higher and swept away the equipment to measure."

. He lives in Kyle or San Marcos ( up that way) rides 45 miles a day one way to work, has a house near Fort Hood and is a member of the Boozefighters club, but according to his wife (whom I work with a lot more than him) he wasn't there with any club. I have been getting different stories from other people who work in the hospital and he isn't as squeeky clean as I thought. A knife was found and some large ball bearings on him and the bike. I have heard that the ball bearings are used to get cagers attention if they try to cut you off or come in your lane. He had them in his windshield bag (Bearings). I have to keep my faith in the LEO's ,that if he is not guilty it will all work out. I know that in the heat of the moment all @$$%$%% breaks loose, so I honestly think the situation will be handled fairly in the end

This sounds pretty heartless, but with the story of all the weapons recovered, I bet there is going to be a huge police auction, or do they have to destroy them all. I saw a couple of pictures of the crime scene and worried less about the people than the bikes. They were putting them on gooseneck trailers and wreckers. For the Harleys thats typical anyway, but in the sea of Roadglides and Streetglides, there was a Goldwing trike. Probably belonged to someone with a tailbone that couldn't tolerate a Hog anymore

Just found out that one of the people who works here at Brooke Army Medical Center and I know real well was arrested with the Waco mess. Retired Army First Sgt and Medical Maintence. Taught math and wrestling at a local High School, until a couple of years ago. Belongs to the Boozefighters club, Bikers Against Child Abuse, and the American Legion Riders and a big ol teddy bear of a guy. No weapons found on him. His wife is hoping for his release this week. I am sure when they get through with this, they will find that there were many of the bikers were there just to enjoy a club meeting and ride their bikes. I am not trying to excuse the several criminals that were there also, by no means, but hope they investigate well before judging too harshly.

Cowpuc, you sound like my kind of neighbor, a bike that sits too long gets it's feelings hurt.

Thanks for all the discussion, I wouldn't trade my RSV for one. although the color (beautiful color of blue/green) was nice.

I was pulling in the parking garage today, and saw this bike that I didn't recognize. What happened to cause Honda to D/C the Valkyrie Interstate? Did it compete too closely with the Goldwing? Or was it just not reliable and no one wanted it? It looks real PERTY\

Found an article about the new Airbag Jacket system, pretty interesting, but I bet still crazy expensive https://autos.yahoo.com/news/see-this-airbag-equipped-motorcycle-jacket-inflate-on-impact-012825045.html

Bill, It was a pleasure meeting you and your navigator, anytime you feel like a trip to San Antone, we have plenty of room. Thanks again

Easiest installation that I think I have done to the bike. After the small realignments underneath so that nothing touched, I attached a rubber grommet to the bottoms of each leg and to make it easier for putting on the stand in the garage I put a slightly sloped piece of wood in front that I ride up on. this raises the front tire about 1/2-1" and then just put the stand down and roll back off. Pictures to follow
