Thanks Eck! So...since this "should" be covered under warranty (again) should I push Yamaha to replace the inner fairing AGAIN...or just do the V7Goose mod (which looks to be VERY straightforward)?
-
Anyone ever have this issue? See pics. What's odd is that the DEALER (who remains nameless at this point) said he replaced the complete INNER FAIRING piece about 6 weeks ago (under warranty) to resolve the exact same issue. I cracked the fairing to replace a stereo cable...and low and behold...the windshield bracket-to-inner-fairing mounts are completely broken. Thoughts? Is this a COMMON issue that all RSVs have? Or am I just "lucky"?

I'm search-challenged! So I've seen LOTS of references to a procedure for checking plug wires / coils for resistance (on RSVs)....but I have yet to "stumble upon" that holy grail! I've searched "spark", "resistance" and a bevy of other spark-related terms...but have not found THE procedure. From what I can tell, this may be a document created by V7Goose? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

The Meguiars detail clay kit is ~$20.00...which includes two clay bars, microfiber towel, and the detailing mist. A single clay bar can last indefinitely...unless you drop it. If you drop it...throw it AWAY! RE: Keeping it clean...I wash my bike weekly. It's unfortunate...but washing doesn't get rid of all contaminates. The only way to really tell if you need to clay is with your hand! Wash bike as normal...dry as normal. Run your hand lightly across the surface...if the surface feels "rough" (or not smooth as a baby's....), you should detail with the clay. You can almost hear the roughness as you move your hand across the surface. After claying, you will notice an immediate difference in the surface! Wax as normal...I use Maguiars Carnuba (liquid). Color doesn;t matter...you can't see the surface contaminates. Video: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfEfLGL59GI]YouTube - How to Clay Bar[/ame]

I wash the bike once a week...whether it needs it or not... Anyway....today I "clayed" the scoot after washing it...WHAT A DIFFERENCE! I finished up with two coats of Maguiar's carnuba wax....Man...does that stuff SHINE! Tried Pledge a week after I bought the bike...wasn't pleased with how it looked...so I switched to the Meguiar's. Just my 1/2 cent...

Quick question... Can you install the Speedbleeders WITHOUT draining the reservoirs? It seems like there would be enough vacuum from the reservoir being closed...that once you remove the old bleeder valve, you might get a little leakage...but that shouldn't drain the reservoir...should it? You expert opinion would be greatly appreciated!

I could have sworn that a while back, I saw running lights on my rear turn signals...(Stock lighting). This morning, I noticed that the front signals had running lights (and signals) and the rear turn signals were just that...turn signals and NO running lights. I had the dealer do some warranty work last week (replaced the inner fairing and several other components)....and I'm wondering if something didn't get connected "securely". Can someone with an 08 RSV take a minute or two and check and see if the rear turn signals have running lights as well as signal lamps? I would greatly appreciate this sanity check!

I know the terms are used interchangeably...but sometimes the term "driving light" includes the word LEDs. ANy recommendation on driving lights?

Norm; Do you have an article reference for this mod? What was your source for the antennas? Thanks! Walt

TuffTom4; Are the campsites in Ocala Forest primitive? The wife and I are looking to start camping again, but we like the creature comforts (hot showers...maybe electricity) We've ridden through the Ocala Forest...but never camped there. It's about a 3-4 hour ride for an overnighter...so it's something we are really considering in the next several weeks. Thanks! BigBear

less gas mileage than I have over the last two years. I used to average 45 MPG. Now, I'm getting right around 40 MPG. The only two changes that I have made are: 1) Replaced my stock air filters with K&N air filters 2) Added a pair of Baker Air Wings Any thoughts on which addition would most likely be the culprit? I do have the Air Wings pretty much open all the way...would this cause a significant amount of drag...enough to lose a couple of MPGs? Or is the more likely culprit the K&N filters?

Glad that worked for you! But I can't take all the credit...I learned that from someone here...something about practicing karaoke riding 1-up!
-
I had that problem early on (1-up), but then I started turning the intercom to zero when riding 1-up...something to do with balancing the output of the microphone. When riding 2-up, the wife now waits until the bike is off before disconnecting her lower. Since I made these "adjustments", haven;t had the issue since! HTH

After a long call to Star Customer service explaining my frustration with the dealer I purchased the bike from (now closed), and discussing "defects in workmanship" and the number of miles on the bike (what's that got to do with the price of chrome at BikeWeek), my issues are to be resolved! Yamaha WILL be replacing all of the broken parts and absorbing the costs associated with their installation. Kudos to SpacePort Cycles in Titusville FL for their assistance in working with Yamaha to make me a "happy customer".:thumbsup2: Thanks to Star Customer service (Ty) for being my customer service advocate, and nudging Yamaha to "do the right thing"!
-
The DEALER quoted the Yamaha rep as saying installation $$$ would be paid by me. I'm gonna call Yamaha tomorrow to get the "straight" scoop (I hope)...
-
OK...Dealership/Yamaha has agreed to replace "most" of the broken parts (about $1900 worth)...HOWEVER... According to the dealer, the local Yamaha rep stated that I will have to PAY the hourly rate to have the broken parts removed, and the new parts installed? Does that sound RIGHT? I've read, and RE-READ the warranty information in the owner's manual, but it sure seems like this entire repair should be on Yamaha's dime?

One question....Why? -
His issue was very early during the inception/introduction of HID lighting....apparently there were problems with heat & current draw. It was a 96 Mustang GT...and the expected amperage usage back then ().... But it sounds like current HID technology doesn't pose a "amperage draw" issue...
-
Good thing I didn't ask what kind of tires are the best for a Venture! I bought a single ULTRA, and the light seems to be brighter than the old OEM bulb. I haven't done any research on HIDs at all....but thanks for the data! Where can I find a good writeup on HIDs, brands, etc? Do you have to make any modifications to use HIDs? A good friend of mine change out his stock Mustang headlights for HIDs and subsequently burned up all of his wiring because of the current draw from the new lamps....that's why (at this point) I'm not a "fan" of HIDs.
