  1. It's not supposed to snow in NC...is it??? We're contemplating retiring to Western NC or Eastern TN.... After spending 20+ years in North Dakota, I stand by my motto "NoMoSno"!!! :snow2:
  2. Here's a recent picture of my wife (Lynn) and I ....
  3. N3FOL; The clutch speedbleeder I purchased was the one listed for my 08 RSV in the SpeedBleeder fitment guide on their site. I think the valve may be defective. Anyway....all is well! Good luck on changing your brake fluid! BTW: The new fluid seems to have "increased" braking presssure....seems like an added incentive to keep the fluid fresh/clean! hahaha...Enjoy the snow!
  4. Thanks for the wiring diagrams! My money is on a bad or disconnected flasher unit...
  5. Well...the speedbleeders for the brake calipers are working exceptionally well! Bled both sets of brakes in about 15 minutes...and that INCLUDED installing the speedbleeders. The clutch speedbleeder is a COMPLETELY different story..even with the speedbleeder crack about 1/4 of a turn, I could see fluid being sucked back up into the clear hose. To me, that means that the checkball didnt seat, and was allowing air back into the system. Anyway...after pumping and cracking the clutch bleeder (more times than I could count), I was able to evacuate all of the air. And I'm using new DOT 4 brake fluid...bought special for this occasion! And now...I'm off for a test ride! Thanks!
  6. After an hour of fiddling with installing a speedbleeder to assist in replacing the fluid in my clutch reservoir, I reinstalled the old bleed valve and reversed bled the clutch lines (thanks Condor). Now, when I sqeeze the clutch lever, I don;t get any "pressure" until the lever is approx 1/4" from the grip. Essentially, the clutch lever travels almost all the way to the grip before I feel any fluid pressure. I took the cover off to have a look...I can see the plunger moving and I can see the fluid "swell" over the small hole. Having read on this forum that some folks have squirted themselves with brake fluid by rapidly activating the clutch lever. I took the appropriate precautions to prevent brake fluid spraying every where...but to my dismay...no spray...just a "swell" in the reservoir. It just doesn;t seem like I have any clutch. I can squeeze the clutch, and put it into first gear, but after releasing the lever about an 1/8 of an inch, the bike begins to move. What have I missed?
  7. The 4-way flashers on my 08 RSV are not working... Turn signals all work fine. Tried turning on the 4-ways with 1) The ignition turned on but the bike not running 2) The bike running I've looked at the service manual, and it appears that there isn;t a fuse or flasher unit specific to the operation of the 4-way flashers. Is it possible that the 4-way switch may have corrosion or simply be "bad"? So....once again...I turn the to wealth of knowledge located on this board! Suggestions?
  8. Here's a different perspective.....it's probably 15 degrees WARMER in your freezer than it is outside your house! It's a balmy 78.3 degrees here....rode to work this morning WITHOUT gloves! LOL!
  9. All; Thanks for the data/details! I took the lever apart and cleaned it up...so it moves really smooth! It looks like the plunger isn't moving outward completely. I have some speedbleeders ready to go on...guess I'll completely flush to brake reservoir and see where that takes me....
  10. Reference item two (in red) in the attached pic. Currently, on my 08 RSV, the "plunger" is kind of sticky...when I depress the brake lever, I can actually feel a kind of click as the actuator acuates. In fact, I've adjusted the lever as much as possible, but I've bottomed out on the screw/locknut combination, and still have a lot of play. It's almost as if the plunger isn;t retraction all of the way (out away from the master cylinder). A couple of questions: 1) Can these parts (item 2) be cleaned? 2) Is this repair considered a warranty repair? 3) If this isn;t a warranty item, is this easy to replace? Thanks for your inputs!
  11. Currently have 33k... I've noticed over the last couple of weeks the smell of exhaust while riding (all speeds). I've checked the exhaust flanges to insure they are all tight...same with the muffler connections. At this point, I'm kind of grapsing at straws!!!
  12. What are the symptoms of a stuck/cracked/burnt exhaust valve? Survey says.....?

  14. Does it snow in Michigan?
  15. Agreed! MotoPort makes some pretty good gear! :mo money:
  16. I live in Central FL...the temps (in the "winter") hover around 40 degrees. I usually ride to work at 6:15 am...so it's the bottom end of the thermometer (36-42 degrees)...and the ride is approx 35 minutes at 60mph. It's about 6-8 weeks of these temps. It sounds like I can't go wrong with a GOOD set of heated gloves! Do the heated grips draw more current than the gloves? I've got the complete set of MotoPort air-mesh Kevlar riding gear with the insulated liners, so the rest of me stays warm...It's just the tips of my fingers that seem to get cold...
  17. I'm considering either heated grips or heated gloves for an 08 RSV. I'm using insulated gloves, and my hands stay reasonably warm...but my fingertips seem to bear the brunt of the cold. What type of hand warming "device" would you recommend? If you own either, would you purchase them again?
  18. Hey V7Goose! Thanks for this very informative post! You got pics of where the mixture screws are located? Thanks!
  19. When I installed the K&Ns originally, I was told they already came precharged...so all I did was install them. Well... I cleaned then recharged the K&N filters on Sunday. When I recharged the filter (hahaha...I meant spraying the special lubricant), I used a pretty light coat...just enough to turn the filter a light shade of red. What I noticed right away, while riding, is that the exhaust fumes smell is almost completely gone! So my first question would be..."Why would limited air flow through the air filter cause exhaust fumes in the cockpit"? As stated earlier, I' gonna give the K&Ns a couple of weeks to see if the gas mileage improves. That's about how long it's gonna take to get the OEM filters ordered in delivered! Thanks for all of your inputs and suggestions. Anyone want to buy a set of K&N filters for their RSV? I'll even throw in a gently-used filter cleaning & recharging kit!
  20. Yep...synch'd carbs after changing plugs. Other than crummy gas mileage, the bike "seems" to run just fine. I'm gonna give these K&Ns a couple of weeks to see what my gas mileage does...if it doesn't get better, I'm going to put the OEM filters back in. And if that doesn;t work...the only thing left the change is the fuel filter (back to OEM). And if THAT doesn't work.....
  21. I have an 08 RSV. In June, I was getting an average of 44 MPG (). In July, I changed the plugs to NGK Iridium, replaced the air filters with K&N, and replaced the fuel filter with a Purolator (??) recommended on this board. Since then, my gas mileage has dropped of dramatically (avg of 38 mpg, one-up, highway driving @ 55). Last month, in an effort to understand my loss of gas mileage, I pulled the plug caps (which all measured @ 9.6k ohms), and changed the plugs back to the stock NGKs, and synched the carbs. Over the last month, my gas mileage has dropped to approx 34 MPG...this represents a 10 MPG drop over the last 5 months... Today, I cleaned and charged the air filters...I'm not overly optimistic at this point. Any help or suggestions would be reatly appreciated...I'm running out of ideas!
  22. Newegg.com is who I use for all my computer stuff...
  23. Brake Pad; Looks "interesting"...Will this be constructed of fiberglass or aluminum?
  24. Congrats on the new bike! If the holes are small and on the bottom-most portion of the exhaust, it's probably to drain condensation. My worth...
  25. This was actually my FIRST purchase for the new 08 RSV. I installed the U32 kit...for running and flashing brake lights. These are really bright...and get your attention. Here's a clip of the HyperLites:
