Switched from liquid chlorine to a chlorine generator approx 4 years ago...one of the THE smartest investments in pool care. It's a Jandy AquaPure, and is very much automatic...even tells me when it needs salt. Definitely eliminates the need for "pool cleaning clothes"....

+1 for Jake Wilson...they always seem to have the lowest prices, and their delivery is phenomenol. I ordered a tire on Monday, and it was on my doorstep Tuesday....with FREE shipping. Can't complain about that!

Had the coolant leak checked out by the Dealer, and confirmed by "DealerNet" (?). As M61A1MECH stated, the inner seal on the waterpump shaft is defective, and will be covered 100% under warranty! Should get the scoot back Tues/Wed, and should be good as new....just in time for our three week ride: 1) Week 1 - Moonshiner 28, Deals Gap, Cherahola skyway, and general Smoky Mountain riding. 2) Week 2 - Up to Dearborn Heights and Grand Rapids, then up the west coast of MI (UP) 3) Week 3 - Over to Niagara Falls, then down to DC. Should be fun! The wife is proabably more excited than I am!

http://www.stromtrooper.com/general-v-strom-discussion/27117-how-trim-seat-beads.html I made a pair...and use them ALL of the time. Been using the same ones for almost three years. Wont ride without them! Enjoy!

It's approx 1.25", and was just laying on the rotor (like it is in the picture)...not over anything...it looked like it had fallen to the backside of the rotor. Based on how mangled it is, it's probabably a remnant of the "on the road" tire change last year...no telling what the "tech" did.... I pulled the axle, raised the bike, pulled the tire, and set the wheel (rotor down) on a support stand I manufactured. That's when I noticed this "spring" laying on the backside of the rotor.

I pulled the rear wheel off of my '08 RSV this morning (installing a new tire). When I flipped the wheel over (rotor side down), this spring-looking thing was lying on the backside of the rotor. It has a diameter of approx 1.25" if that helps. I'm not sure where this came from...:confused24: since I hadn't disassembled anything. I looked at the rear wheel parts diagram, and the only thing that loosely resembles this is an o-ring. Any thoughts or ideas?

Is this the waterpump vent hose? If so, it's dry as a bone...no coolant or oil.
-
Agreed! The dealer "should" be able to diagnose and repair the waterpump seals. Thanks checking the oil routing, and confirming Steve's suspicions! You guys rock! Walt
-
Steve; I drained the oil into a big open pan...no coolant in the oil...JUST (lol) oil in coolant. I'm gonna check the vent hose behind the waterpump in the morning.... Thanks for the suggestions! Walt

This morning, while doing regular maintenance, I noticed a thick brown sludge in the coolant recovery container...smells like oil. Unfortuantely for me, I checked the coolant level approx 6 months ago, after doing a coolant flush and fill, so I don;t know exactly WHEN the oil started seeping into the coolant system. I've completely emptied and cleaned the recovery container...When I removed the radiator cap...yep....oily sludge. It's an 08 RSV so Im pretty sure it's under warranty. So...exactly "how screwed" am I? Any thoughts on where I should start? Funny thing is, the bike seems to be running fine... Thanks for any/all comments and suggestions.

About the equivalent of a drop ('cause it sprayed)...but it was enough to wet my finger tip...smelled like light-weight machine oil.

I had a little noticeable "bounce" in the steering head...first thought..check air pressure... The first side I checked was 5 psi...other side 7 psi. When I went to relieve some pressure from the 7 psi side, I had both a small amount of oil and air escape the schraeder valve. Question -> Should OIL be coming out of the air schraeder valve? Is this normal?

How could you tell that one cylinder wasn't firing? -
I bought a Venom front tire approx 6 weeks ago...Jake Wilson had the best price...and the tire showed up two days after I ordered it.... Jake Wilson gets my vote!

Me too! And if I had a need for them more than once a year....I would LOVE to have the SNAP-ON set. Are they other RSV maintenance items that require different plier sizes?
-
LOL....you can't hide money! :mo money: Thanks for all of the input...for as much as I would use them, I think I'll look for a cheap forged set and grind accordingly!

I'm looking to purchase a GOOD set of snapring pliers. Any suggestions? I bought a set from Sears when I did maintenance on the rear hub...and they were JUNK (IMHO). Getting ready to put on another rear tire, so I thought I would lube the hub/pins again since I'm 3/4 of the way there anyway...seems like these two items should go together!!! As always...thanks for the suggestions/comments!

Thanks captainjoe! Early last summer, I was getting 44 MPG easy...after the summer, my MPGs dropped to a consistent 38...new plugs, new air filters, validated carb synch was good. Adjusting the carb floats seems like the next logical step... Thanks for the advice!

captainjoe; How long did the entire process take you (first timer, right??) What were your symptoms that made you decide to check the floats? Did you MPG improve after adjustments were made? Thanks for the feedback! Walt

I'm planning to check the float measurements on my 08 RSV in a couple of weeks. What are my carb-related opportunities while I have the carbs off of the bike? Suggestions or comments are always welcomed!

Nice pics...looks so "crisp and clear"! Thanks for sharing! -
TJ; Does the wider windshield keep the wind off of your hands/fingers when riding? Why did you opt out of the vent? Just curious... Thanks!

I'll keep that in mind...we are heading up that way in June. I live about 45 miles due east of Orlando...got a couple of spare rooms...and a place to "camp" if you are a die-hard tent camper!
