Good question, found this on the web after a look > First the basics; there are two types of tire construction: bias-ply and radial. A safe generalization is that most cruisers use bias ply tires, and sportbikes use radials. (Spoke wheels require a tube to maintain tire pressure, while cast wheels allow for a tubeless tire). A bias-ply tire has a round profile, and tall sidewalls. A radial tire has a flatter profile, and shorter sidewalls. In a bias-ply tire, the carcass (the material beneath the tires tread) is made up of overlapping layers of nylon or rayon cords. Each of the several layers stretch across the tire at opposite angles forming an X pattern, hence the term "bias." Some tires add another layer on top of the plies, called belts, and those run in the direction of the tire rotation. As a tire rotates, the small portion of the tire that meets the pavement, the "contact patch," flattens out for a split second. So as the tire rotates, it is constantly flattening out, and rebounding into shape. That constant flexing action generates heat, which is good for grip. But too much heat is the enemy, as it decreases performance and accelerates tire wear. A radial tire has its plies running "radially" at a 90ø angle to the direction of the rotation. This design reduces heat generation, so the tires run cooler. The downside is that the sidewalls flex easier, so they are given a shorter profile. The lower profile means that they can't handle heavier loads that a large heavy cruiser, with a passenger and baggage, requires. A cruiser's suspension design and cornering needs are better suited to bias ply tires, so always check to make sure a tire is approved for your particular bike before buying. More reading here >http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/Article_Page.aspx?ArticleID=442&Page=1 Hope this answers your question, it did mine. Also watch what the code is for age of tire. It has been discussed in other forums here, it will have 4 numbers first two are week second two are year of manufacture. Don't take an old tire even if it looks new. Bryan

bryan52577 replied to bryan52577's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I went around a long curve to the right and the low fuel dummy light came on, when I was straight up again it went out. Never thought about any gas staying over there,,,good thought! Thanks Bryan -
Confused on fuel tank volume on 05 RSV
bryan52577 replied to bryan52577's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Well I filled it as full as I could get it and took it out & ran 1 up 198 miles. Started to sputter flipped to reserve "figuring I had about 50 miles left" ran another 40 miles stopped for gas put in as much as I could and put in 4.92 gal = 48.37 mpg that's about 50% 2 lane at 60 mph & 50% 4 lane at 70 mph.... Like the mpg I am getting just chicken to run it all the way out. But even then I should still have about a gallon left if the specs are right? Paid $2.68 a gal for the fuel YIPPEE!!!! Gee never thought I would be happy with gas close to $3.00 a gal but after months above $3 it feels good. LOL WHAT A GREAT DAY TO RIDE IN IOWA!! -
Confused on fuel tank volume on 05 RSV
bryan52577 replied to bryan52577's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Thanks FLB 78 I may try the gal on the back trick I should probbly find out when I do run out. LOL Could come in handy some time! -
Well since I got my 05 RSV I hit reserve and then fuel up and can not get more than 4 to 4 1/2 gal in it? The specs say > Fuel Capacity (gal/l) 6 / 23 Fuel Capacity Reserve (gal/l) 1 / 3.5 If the specs are right then why do I run out & need reserve at 4 gal? The fuel light comes on in 1 to 2 miles after turning to reserve. Do I really have 2 gal left? When I fill the tank I will sit on bike and hold it up right and wiggle the bike and fill it as full as I can get and still after 4 to 4 1/4 gal I am hitting reserve again. Any suggestions?

Black Cerry or Maroon / Burgandy/Red Trunk Liners Pictures

Frogmaster, Where did you get those? I have looked all over here and have not found them yet. Do they come in other colors? Thanks, Bryan -
I was also looking for info on a bike I purchased and was greeted the first day with a "WELCOME". I have been in other clubs / groups as Sargent of arms "security" Area Coordinator and others. I helped organize rides & parties and put in a lot of hard work, only to be stabbed in the back "so to say". I have found people on here that have offered us a place to stay and food just for stopping by! They don't know me from a hole in the ground, but have hearts and kindness above anything imaginable! I see warmness and caring in every person on here whether they want to admit it or not. You just don't find that in the world anymore. Why am I here????? I want to be just like them! Just my view. PS. Eagleeye & Juggler if you read this SORRY I did not get with you. My trip to Wisconsin & Minnesota got all messed up by going to visit my mother after her surgery. Spent way more time there than I had planned, but it was needed and she was happy when I left so I guess it was for the best. I'll get to meet you some other time, I hope?

I,m agree George S, but looks to me like you would want a few "long" sweepers in order to get the stuff on the sides of the tire? I have never put it in the bike ,,,,never thought of it I guess, but I got it in the atv and I take it through thorn trees and any place I would 'NEVER" take anything with pneumatic wheels. And it works, have never had a flat in 3 years now! Had one go low once, aired it back up and still up! GOOD LUCK!

Well here I was walking around looking at all the bikes waiting for my RSV to be serviced at RJ Performance in Ottumwa Iowa. I have been taking my bikes there for years and they do a good job for me. I was on my phone talking to a friend and laughing about this (George Jetson) looking type of bike "Victory Vision" with bags , trunk, radio cool windshield that adjusts as you want. When the owner came by and ask if he could help me. I said I was waiting for my bike to get done and was just looking at this odd looking bike, he said OK, get on. He said he gets that a lot but the best way to tell me is for me to ride it. That was about all he said. I was like well........But decided what the heck I had nothing to loose other than someone seeing me. LOL Well I took off and WOW, 870 plus pounds and you would think it was a 250 trials bike. It looked long and I thought "OK corner coming up in a 100 feet better start turning". LOL This thing is so easy to turn, perfect balance and POWER at all ranges! I came back after 30 miles and was very impressed! (I swear, I think I could do about anything with it first time out.) The gas tank is in two 3 gal pods between the forks and the frame along with the battery. Must be what gives it such a low center of balance? The seat looked hard compared to my pillow top RSV but not so....After the first 15 minuets I thought "this is comfy" and talk about a smooooth ride (air). It handles VERY, VERY good. Dealer showed me the DINO it said 92hp and 72hp at the wheel and 106 foot pounds of torque "if I remember right". The wind shield,, oh yah I like the windshield! I started the ride with it all the way down as far as it would go then as riding found the perfect spot for me! All in all not bad,,,,,,not bad at all. You just got to get over that "jettson" image and of course you got to be old enough to know what the Jettsons were! LOL
