  1. http://www.cruisersplus.com/product_info.php/manufacturers_id/14/products_id/3433 They got them for less than $66.00 each. My local dealer wants $180.00 each and claims they are "rare" and I had better buy his Old Stock soon. I laughed pretty hard.
  2. I cut a piece of foam rubber and stuff a small piece in one of the ends. it keeps them open.
  3. I cant find those on their website. Is it a special item you have to phone order? also how much were they? I need to take apart mine this winter and I might as well replace the springs with what you have.
  4. I have looked through the factory service manual and stared at the bike with all the trim off and I cant find it. Where is the coolant/engine temp sensor? My gauge is jumping all over and I want to check the connections before I go out and buy a replacement sensor.
  5. I looked at the expensive Bike waterproof ones and bought an el-cheapo magellan 3100. not waterproof but only $95.00 on amazon.com (you can get refurbs for less than $90.00) I can replace mine every year for 3 years for less than the price of the motorcycle specific waterproof ones. Cant hear it but I turn the volume all the way down anyways, I'd rather look at it than listen to the prompts. Bike mount is $16.00 for that model. Note: you cut your cost on map upgrades if you buy a new one every year.
  6. I gave my wife a very good tip that solved all the issues she had riding. I told her she needs to look over my shoulder on the side we are turning. If I turn left she needs to look over my left shoulder, turn right look over right shoulder. works great and I have no problems as it forces her to stay mostly with what the bike and I are doing.
  7. Thanks a bunch for the offer! That would make it easier to understand when I get my own carbtune. I will be in touch! Thanks everyone for the info! I have been given a ton of reading now that covers every aspect of this.
  8. where at wally world? automotive, hardware, home cleaning? I cant find it anywhere.
  9. thanks, I've tried the search, and all I get are threads asking about it or diagnosing it but no threads (from the search function) that say how-to. I'll take a look where you pointed me at and start there.
  10. I have read tons of threads on carb syncing but I cant find any of the threads that people have been talking about that are carbtune howto's or guides. Anyone have the links on how to use the carbtune or sync carbs on a 1st gen?
  11. I was doing a end of summer checkover on the bike. I discoverd that someone at one time broke the Brakes master cylinder resoivoir for the rear brakes and the welded it back up. we ll they welded up the filler hole plug as well so I cant check rear brake fluid. All Yamaha parts dealers say the part is available if I buy the $490.00 real master cylinder assembly. I just want the outer housing for the resoivoir. anyone find a source for this thing? or am I stuck buying the overpriced full assembly.
  12. I was wondering if anyone has a list of the bulbs used in the indicators and illumination for the dash on the 83 venture. I am looking at opening it up to replace a couple of dead dash lights and might as well replace them all while i am in there.
  13. Thanks everyone for the tips... I'm going to start searching to see if anyone has the numbers for the bearings so I can get them at autozone or NAPA, the local Yamaha dealer wants $35.00 each for them and $200 to do the job, they claim it's a 2 hour job. As for tire cupping, is it a hard thing to see? my tires look pretty new.
  14. I noticed on the way home from work today that when I take a sharp turn at speed (to avoid something in the road) I get a slight rumble from the front wheel. Is that the front wheel bearing going bad? If so how difficult is it for a shadetree mechanic to fix it himself? I dont have a press but have access to one. does nayone have a procedure for removal of the front tire and service/replacement of the front bearing?
  15. So how do I go about ordering at this fantastic price? also do you take paypal?
  16. I have been having trouble with my Rear brake on my 83 venture. I had light brake pressure, but if I pump it up, it works fine for a while. So I rode the rest of last week with it that way because it was good weather. and It stops fine with just me on it. Yesterday I was riding to get something at the store and the rear brake was dead, no stopping if I pressed it, OK.. I'll limp home... two stops on the way home I instinctively press the brake pedal even though there is no brake... It worked on the last one but then did not release. I had to shove my toe under it and pry it back up. What could have caused the brake actuator to bind up like that? I have no leaks, no brake fluid on the pavement or on the bike. I'm going to disassemble the bike today to see further. the pedal it's self is loose, the linkage to the master is stiff moving in or out.
