I just got mine for $80.00 shipped brand new. the British pound is falling and the dollar is not falling so badly. I got a new one shipped for what most guys are asking for their used ones.

not if someone figures out or guesses your paypal username and password. Thats why I paid them $5.00 for their security dongle that makes it impossible for this to happen. It's a keyfob that when you press the button it gives you a 6 digit number that only works for 30 seconds to get in your account. https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=xpt/Marketing_CommandDriven/securitycenter/PayPalSecurityKey-outside for a link on their site about it. there are thousands of programs that run under windows that are designed to steak your paypal and credit card info so someone can take all your money. these keyfobs are the only defense agaisnt those... Or buying a Mac instead of a PC. Mac's dont have any of those viruses and trojans to steal your info. Good Luck on paypal. they are NOT a bank so they dont have to abide by federal rules and simply sack you for all the money stolen. Maybe they figured out that helping customers is more important than screwing them.

If the new ones are going that cheap then beat up the seller on price. Great price $8900 Good price $9000-$11000 Reasonable $11500 $12500 It's hard times, if you are a buyer you're in charge. Low ball people hard because if you dont get that bike, there's another 300 bikes just like it for sale that are willing to take your offers. The new car prices dropping are making the used car sellers forced to drop their prices hard (Just like how house sellers are having to drop the price) Right now is the time to get a fantastic deal, not an OK price.

Sirius and XM are the same things BUT are on different frequencies. a XM antenna will work on Sirius you just get 1/2-3/4 signal strength. a Sirius Antenna will work on a XM radio with the same effects it will not hold the signal as good, you lose it under heavy tree cover, etc... If you have a free antenna for the other, I say use it. Look for the little magnet antennas on ebay, I pick them up all the time for $5.00-$9.00 Paying a full $20.00 for a sirius or XM antenns is nuts. I am installing one under my fairing while I am working on the bike and running the antenna where I want it to be, I was going to put it back on the trunk but carrying stuff will block the signal, paseengers will also block the signals ,etc... I switched to one of the "visor" type of recievers that looks like a radar detector that works better on the venture dash so I dont need docks on everything. Note: older XM and sirius radios have FM transmitters that work. the new ones are utter garbage when it comes to their transmitters. Dont upgrade your radio unless you have to.

How many will buy carb diaphragms
timgray replied to Freebird's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I could not wait and bought a set off ebay. If we need exact measurements off them let me know, they get installed next week. That said, I will buy an extra set to keep just in case I find another 1st gen that I absolutely must have.- 57 replies

you CAN do that one. There are a couple of intersections in Grand Rapids michigan that you are aimed up a 20% grade hill that is incredibly hard to stop on and then get going but you can do it. The ones I hate are intersections when you make your turn it's a sharp uphill climb into the road. you are leaning and going up a hill. Plus around here they think throwing tar and gravel on a paved road is "fixing it" so you have loose gravel over tar all over the city.

CLutch upgrade options
timgray replied to timgray's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Is it worth it getting the stiffer spring set? I see it's only $11.00 for it. do the coil springs in the early 1st gens get weak over time? -
I've ridden a lot of bikes in my life. Been on a motorcycle cince I was 8. One thing I learned from going from a small light bike like a 250-750 to a monster like the Venture. You gotta re-learn riding. The smaller bikes you can muscle around and throw around to force them to do what you want. The venture and other big heavy bikes are in charge, not you. if you get past the wrong point, it's going over and you will not stop it. This bike is way too heavy for you to put out a leg and keep it from going over. My left leg still hurts from that silly manuever. Give yourself 3X the braking distance than you are used to. These monsters do not slow down instantly like you are used to. They will accelerate much faster than you are used to. My old slow 83 1200 will eat every Kawasaki Ninja in this town as well as anything with a 750 or smaller motor, I utterly make these kids cry. Second gear feels like a rocket ride. But that rocket ride can get out of hand easily. If you are used to Chain drive, these shaft drive bikes handle different. they lift when you nail the throttle instead of drop like a chain or belt drive bike does. Also be aware, you have nearly 1000 pounds going down the road, if the rear end get's loose and starts to come out or around.... you're in trouble. Once you get used to it, you can do a LOT with it you are used to. Basically get a lot of time in the saddle. ride it everywhere for every reason. nothing can replace riding, riding, riding. Oh most important. make 100% sure the kickstand is DOWN before you get off. Dont ask, bit it did not impress the wife when I brought the bike home the first time.

do we get a discount from oldbikebarn? I'm about to pull the trigger on $500.00 in parts and would like to save as much as I can.

Metalflake is not that hard, it just takes a skilled paint guy which are pretty rare today. My 83 venture is now metalflake with some other awesome "retro" paint effects that are updated to look very modern. Remember erriedes? The ground up pearl that you sprayed on, laid down some plastic wrap wrinkled and pulled off then airbrushed with candy? IT has an effect that makes people go WOW. I had several car paint guys freak over my bikes paint as they acted like they never saw that effect before. The advantage is that the new urethane clears can spray over older paints that allow you to do the cool stuff again while not having any fade problems and be harder than heck so it cant be scratched. The paint guys that poo-poo using lacquer dont know what they are missing, it's why House of Kolor still sells the stuff.

Wife and I both wear HJC CL-MAX modulars. they are actually available cheap, MSRP is $289.00 but we got them Holland Michigan for $169.00 each. They are comfortable, fit very well, and I watched a demo of them at a bike rally as to the strength. They can take qite a beating and not open up or seperate. I tried a set of really high priced Modulars that cost well over $500.00 each and they did not feel any better than the HJC's but I did like the fighter pilot flip down internal visor. No matter what you get, do the pull off test.

leather & helmet saved my skin-Kevlar better?
timgray replied to dharnie's topic in Safety and Education
Take a look at the composite helmets with the flip up front. They are incredibly comfortable and awesome when you need to flip up for air or to talk to someone. the HJC helmet I got I saw a demo at the local motorcycle rally of what he helmet can take. Dummy wearing the helmet was dropped onto it's face from 2 stories up. the helmet stayed intact and protected the face. it did not spring loose and flatten in the face of the dummy all latches were intact. I love the protection of a full face but hate how it ripps your ears and nose off when you remove them and cant talk to anyone with it on. These composite helmets are awesome and offer that face and chin protection. -
I agree the 1st Gen certainly does beat the HD in every aspect in styling Oh wait you meant a second gen... OOps! sorry. Yeah those are nice too!

I hope so. I've been hedging bets and buying their stock like candy with it so low. If they come out of this I'll have enough money to buy me a whole fleet of near new 1st gens!

I drilled mine at the dimple and added a screw. I also yanked the bulbs and replaced them with LED lamps. dont light up the road, but they are very bright to oncoming cars. That's what I was after. a very bright marker light. http://cgi.ebay.com/MR11-15-LED-White-12-V-Holagen-Replacement-Light-Bulb_W0QQitemZ110351412829QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item110351412829&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A1|294%3A50 These have all glass construction like the regular bulbs but draw 3 watts each when on and are blinding to look at but will not light up any road.

Ebay Carb. Diaphragm Replacement!
timgray replied to skydoc_17's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have been emailing them back and forth to verify the fitment of their "SD-1" diaphragms to the 1983 Venture. and they just emailed me after checking the dimensions I sent them off my carbs. They are in fact correct for the 83 carbs as well. If you put these on your sliders they will fit correctly. the Sliders may be different but the rubber diaphragms are the same. -
If you just want an intercom, a LOT of good things are said about the chatterbox 50. The chatterbox is around $60.00 and then $30.00-$40.00 each for the helmet headsets. it's the best made cheap driver-passenger intercom I have seen out there.

Rehab 1st gen Brake rotors.
timgray replied to timgray's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I'll give him a call. Thanks a Bunch! I need to find and save links to every one of the Venture friendly parts sellers so I look there first. I wish he would carry the carb diaphragms, I'd rather give a fellow venture rider the money than someone else. -
Ebay Carb. Diaphragm Replacement!
timgray replied to skydoc_17's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
That may be a problem Why do they specify different slides for a 83-85 and 86 on up? Does anyone know if the rubber diaphragm's between a 83-85 and 86- are different? That might be why my searches dont show any results as those diaphragms will not fit a early first gen -
Ebay Carb. Diaphragm Replacement!
timgray replied to skydoc_17's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
That rocks. I could not find those on their website. what search term did you use to find them? I tried XVZ12 and they never came up. Would those work on the 83? $89.00 a set. and magically they can sell them more than 1 set at a time, they must have a better distribution deal than the ebay seller -
Ebay Carb. Diaphragm Replacement!
timgray replied to skydoc_17's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I tried talking to sirius and they want $135.00 EACH for the diaphrams. and you cant buy them without the slider and other parts. They dont have just the rubber parts. -
Ebay Carb. Diaphragm Replacement!
timgray replied to skydoc_17's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I found a canadian motorcycle sales company that carries their carb rebuild kits. I asked them if they can get the diaphrams. If anyone could find out the Keyster part number it would be a lot easier to ask these dealers about them. -
Ebay Carb. Diaphragm Replacement!
timgray replied to skydoc_17's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I really hope so because there is no way that this guy can be the only one in the world with them. and a LOT of 1st gens will be needing these very soon. If we can get the diaphragms only for $10.00 each I'm in for 12 of them. It would be nice to have a set to keep and a set for a friend that has the same carb setup on his bike. Anyone know what the Keyster part number is? I'm going to spend the rest of this week pelting companies that sell their parts to see if they can order them. -
Ebay Carb. Diaphragm Replacement!
timgray replied to skydoc_17's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
That seller is making a killing because I bet he is getting them for $20.00 but he is the ONLY source for these parts. I have tried searching all over the place to find them. but I cant. that ebay seller is the ONLY source for those rubber pieces. I hope the bidding does not go over 119.00 as that's all I got to spend on a set.
