  1. buy it direct. It's cheaper and a LOT faster. I got mine in 4 days from them. The Pound is tanking, the Dollar is not tanking as fast so you get them new for less than guys want for their used ones.
  2. first that's not a computer. It's an Ignition CDI module that module is unrepairable. That much water damage is massive. The bike can not run without it. your only choice is to replace it. If you buy another one from ebay, demand the seller to show you photos of the inside, if they will not, dont buy it. P.S. they are up to $300.00 typically now on ebay. Note to others..... when was the last time you checked your Ignition system module and made sure it was dry and still seals up?
  3. That is Excellent! Thank you very much, That will help a LOT of people in the future. As for the turn signal still not working with LED, take a close look at the flasher unit you bought at autozone, if it's one that was designed to run 4 or more lamps then it will not trigger with only 2 led's The problem is still with the flasher. I discovered this when I converted my Fiero to all LED, the electronic flashers I was able to get at Autozone did not work, I had to buy one without the "bulb out indicator" and for only 2 lamps. I got mine at NAPA. NOTE: when you are at autozone, replace the 194 bulbs for the dash turn signal indicators with their amber 4 led 194 replacement bulbs. Makes a HUGE difference in the visibility of the turn signal indicators on the dash. I can see them easily in high noon sun shining on the dash.
  4. Wow! you're kidding, the company that sells and manufactures the things does not know.
  5. Quick notes, I dont have the pinouts here in front of me at work. GPs -> 100K ohm pot + 10uf cap to eliminate any DC. adjust until audio level is the loudest you want at max volume setting on the gps. now you can adjust volume at gps. simply tap into the MIC+ at the rear headset connection. I found and verified pin-outs for the CB connector, there is a pin that when you give it 6V it mutes the stock audio so the CB takes priority. I made a circuit very silimar to above that when the audio level get's high enough, it creates a 5V signal (good enough to trip it) on that pin. audio out to CB -> mic in on the dual band radio with some attenuation. audio out from dual band radio -> to CB audio in on connector. as for the ipod connection, I just followed the instructions I found here, but chopped off connectors as I will never want a Cassette again. I'll be doing a full write up in my radio pinout thread as I get the information together. There is a lot of functionality in the stock radio system. and most of it can be duplicated in the 2nd gen if someone had the time to find the same pins as I have on the 2nd gen system. I am sure that most of it will work on any bike intercom system as long as it has the inputs, Injecting audio into the Mic for the passenger would work on any system, you just have to get the level right (I'd add a 10uf cap before the pot to eliminate any DC voltage as well) Also use a metal enclosure for any circuits or to hold the pots and shielded wire for any runs. a bike is full of electrical noise and the Mic input is really sensitive.
  6. My solution was to use the electronics in the bikes intercom that already does this. Gps is inserted into the rear passenger mic audio. It interrupts everything all the time. Ipod is going into the Cassette input, I gutted the cassette and turned it into a mp3 player holder. works great my scosche RF remote for the ipod still works through the metal can the cassette player was in. My ham radio is going into the CB radio input 6 pin din plug. I made a similar circuit to bring the radio mute pin high when squelch breaks on the radio to mute radio and intercom when audio comes in from that source. My only switch is the "enable mp3" button that does the same thing as the cassette does when you push the tape in. This works very well. only drawback is that you do not hear the GPS instructions from the dash speakers, but that is not an issue for me.
  7. Speaker rating is not how much is needed, but how much they can take before they turn into smoke. the set I have are rated at 350 watts (yeah right they are) and they sound great with the 12 watts the stock amp actually puts out. As for getting "waterproof" if you want them, buy them at a marine store. I buy the Pyle coaxial speaker that are poly cone and rubber surround. If I have to replace them every 3 years, I'll not feel bad at $19.99 a pair, and they sound 100X better than the stock speakers.
  8. just got back home from this years' Blessing in Baldwin. Great fun, went with a 60 bike ride from Muskegon, and had a ton of fun, I only saw 1, 1st gen Venture, A gold two tone with a matching trailer. I waved as we drove by and I gave him a huge thumbs up. WE skipped the blessing it's self, we would have been pinned against the fence. we went and at at the restaurant with the giant fish on the roof. Great food. The number of vendors was not in the hundreds, unless they were hiding them. I counted maybe 50 vendor tents.
  9. It depends on who makes the helmet. I tried a flip up at a local motorcycle shop that weighed less than my beanie. It was all carbon fiber and weighed nearly nothing, had bluetooth, etc... You also lost weight when you bought it as it took everything in your wallet to buy it. It was $998.00 on sale. so you can get a flip up that weighs almost nothing, but you are gonna pay dearly for it.
  10. Anyone know where to get intercom headset cables? I really need the long one that goes to the passenger location but would like both. Anything I can find does not want to fit as they are not the tight right angle that is needed to fit in that spot.
  11. I found a great site for reading motorcycle spark plugs.... http://www.angelfire.com/fl4/pontiacdude428/Readplugs.html
  12. Helmets are rated for multiple impacts. Anyone going down will never have one impact but from 5 to 20 impacts. It's a old urban legend that if you drop your helmet you have to replace it. The impact from 3-4 feet is nothing compared to hitting the pavement at 25 mph with a head inside it. The foam inside is what saves your head, the outer shell keeps the foam from grinding away really fast. Even if you drop it and the foam is loose, replace it. Now, if the helmet's mechanisms are damaged from the impact, then you need to replace it. but if you drop it 3 feet on it and all it has is scuffed paint that helmet is still 100% and perfectly fine to continue using.

    wolo horn

I just wish they made them in a right hand and left hand version. It would be nice to ride with two proudly mounted to both sides of the bike ready to make all the cagers around you soil themselves.
  14. Radio parts? I'll take broken ones as well as wiring harness for the radio. I'm after them for reverse engineering and documenting the wiring inside. I really need a dead CB and a Dead class unit. Also if you have a class unit, got the right top trim panels that go around it and under it? Thanks!
  15. shielded multi cable. 5 conductor plus drain 22awg wire with a braided and foil shield around it all. That's the proper wire. You might get away with twisted pair but it will allow electrical noise to get in there.
  16. J&M CB's are insanely expensive They must be made from solid gold, $256 for their base model. As for the cable from CB to amp, I would hope it's ping for pin so buy a couple of 6 pin din connectors and wire them up pin for pin. I don't have a CB to pin-out to verify this. If you can plug it in and it works but when seated in the bike it does not, carefully tighten the spring contacts in the mating big blue plug. Use a straight pin and very VERY carefully bend them back. Also spray the connectors down with contact cleaner then rub them with a q-tip. I got a lot of tarnish off of the one I had to dig silicone out of. You might have a broken wire that when everything is bolted down is bending and not making contact. NOTE: the big blue connector with the 20 or so pins is not speaker out but power and control to the FM radio control head. FM radio audio goes through the black wire that plugs in to the din plugs next to the headset and CB plugs. The actual speaker out is the big white snap lock connector with the red, blue, yellow, orange and 4 black with striped wires. the black wires with the yellow and white stripes are the actual speaker-out wiring that goes to the fairing speakers.
  17. Uninstall yahoo search and google search. also uninstall all the toolbars you added in. Yuo have keywords in one of your "search helpers" and it's highlighting things.
  18. Ok, I have a working amplifier module courtesy of fleabay. Ran the setup at 50% volume for 3 hours last night on the dining room table.. Wife was NOT happy. If you have a problem with the audio fading out after a while I have the same problem with the 1st amp I have. I'll be tearing into it and identifying the part that has failed, I'm pretty sure it's the amplifier Chip insidde and I really hope they are still available. A lot of semiconductors have been discontinued from the 80's-90's. I did notice one major thing though. a Lot of guys are trying to seal up the radios better with silicone. This does not help at all, in fact it causes problems because it causes bad connections and traps moisture, dielectric grease for electric contacts is what you need to use, not the stuff you caulk your windows with. I fixed a radio module by spending an afternooon scraping the silicone from all the tiny pins in the connector.
  19. I cant find ANYTHING.... is there any replacement pegs aftermarket for the driver? my rubber covers on my 83 are getting really tattered. Who found any aftermarket chrome ones that will fit where the stock pegs go? I'd love a set of ISO wing pegs, but I cant find what adapters to order to make them fit the 1st gen MK1 Some of you out there HAS to be running aftermarket pegs... What did you buy?
  20. Actually in my 83 it's not like that at all. The Computer simply runs the power for the headlight through a coil wrapped around a reed switch. Current flow will close the reed switch because of the magnetic field. It looked to be the same for the brake light sensor as well. They may have upgraded to shunts and comparators for newer bikes though and I believe that is what they did for the Battery indicator. The kickstand, oil and brake senders are simply looking for ground. I have not been inside a 84+ computer to see if they upgraded things.
  21. Yup. The 120db badboy should be stock on every bike sold. I'm so happy with it that I'm going to add one to my cage
  22. Wife and I were heading home last night. Stopped at a familiar light where a side road crosses the highway, next to the train tracks. My light turned green. Car in front went, I started to follow and slammed on the brakes hard as I saw bouncing headlights to my right. A driver blew the red light hard. doing about 50 mph she barely missed the rear bumper of the car in front of me and I would have been broadsided by an idiot on her phone who thinks laying on the horn is more important than brakes. Her look on her face was as clear as day as my headlight could not have been more than 3 feet from her. Be very aware out there. The light was a solid green for at least 10 seconds before I got into the intersection, if it had been raining or day I would have never saw the bouncing headlights that let me know that someone flew over the train tracks and was driving recklessly. Honestly, at her speed, if I waited for the car next to me to enter the intersection to go along, I would have had the other car on top of me. Dont assume that cager will stop.
  23. I complain to the city and police every spring about the sand and gravel on corners and intersections until they clean it up. It is a road hazard and you can actually force the city to pay for bike damages if they do not clean it up. It's the city's job to break out the street sweeper and keep the roads safe. They never do it until someone reminds them.
  24. Did you use This truck box? http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=97012 That is a very cool idea. What does it all weigh?
  25. nope. Cassette in can not exceed 1Volt as it's line level signal levels. a car stereo typically runs at 12 volts to 35 volts (for high end) out the speakers and will smoke the amplifier and other parts if you connected the speaker out into the cassette in lines. line level out of a car stereo ( that has line level outputs) will work into the casette in lines. but that would be overkill. as for the nav input to intercom.. cant do a third, I do think I can make it override the back seat's intercom to talk to you. Basically a circuit that when it has audio it will cut out the rear set mic and inject the nav audio in. I need to get a fully working system together to start working on those modifications. I may also be able to inject it into the CB audio lines...
