I was going to add phone, but decided against it. I dont want to answer the cellphone when riding. I like the intercom to the wife and the FRS radio to my riding buddies though....
  2. MotorKote works fine in a wet clutch environment. I know it goes against traditional thinking, but look at this way… When you wet sand paper it still retains its function, in fact it actually works better, the same is true with a MotorKoted wet clutch. Actually, MotorKote makes the clutch perform better and because it keeps the assembly clean it also makes it last longer. The above is what they claim. I dont know if this is true or not. and I dont think they will offer a warranty on it. What I wonder is if it's added to a very low miles 1st gen that will blow out it's 2nd gear, will this "magic lubricant" stop the failure or significantly slow down the failure of the 2nd gear?
  3. It's a helical antenna. they work down south and more to the middle of the states. they work poorly up here in Michigan. I had one that came with my portable radio, it only had 1 bar signal compared to the full 4 bars the flat patch antenna gave me.
  4. Just saw the call for paypal to buy them. I just sent the Paypal Cash to danob11@comcast.net Been away riding.
  5. I use the same username, or if it's not available, one of my variants at every site. I then use the same password SEED with a siteid for the site. Example: for VentureRider.org user: timgray pass:MyPassword65VentureRider Honestly it's incredibly secure because 99% of all account cracking is done by a bot and the chances of them figuring out my password scheme is zero unless they have a keylogger on my computer. Then it don't matter if I use V Ser6S$%g674%G^xdft as my password as they get it every time I change it. Dont think that keyloggers are rare, most viruses and trojans contain them. I spent several years as a Antivirus specalist taking apart viruses in a disassembler and watching them in a sandbox to see what they do. The new ones today are evil buggers that even fight being looked at. Make it easy for you, (hard to get timgray at every website I go to) but complex for them and you will be fine. Note: to increase your security, change the middle 2 digits every year or expand it to 4 digits and make it YYMM or MMYY or MYMY and change your passwords monthly. I dont. Because it would take me a month to change all of them. Never had an account hacked by password guessing, had one hacked by the little turd sniffing the cablemodem stream when I logged intoa FTP site to upload website changes. Scared him good when I showed up at his door with a cop. I worked for comcast at that time, I had access to all IP records, his parents used to be comcast customers.
  6. Great! thanks for doing that for me
  7. Cant tell if I'm on that list as I dont have Word and I use a mac. can you post it in a universal format like TXT or RTF?
  8. I just got a Monster brand iEZclick Ipod remote and it works GREAT. Waterproof and has a thick rubber body with a slot down the back to make it easy to mount. http://tbn1.google.com/images?q=tbn:gJQhAkZMAe3nNM:http://www.freshpilot.com/wp-content/images/monster_iezclick_ipod.jpg I'm making a bracket that slides into the slot in back and bolts to one of the mounting bolts on the brake cyl on the throttle side of the handlebars. Simply rotate a thumb up and press the button you want. Glove friendly buttons as well. got mine for $18.00 on amazon.com I'm thinking of getting another one to mount one back by the queen seat to give her the ability to change songs.
  9. Wow the capacitor across the battery scam is back. I have not seen those since the late 80's. I wonder when the magnets on the gas line scam are going to resurface. Yes the device is a fake item, run away screaming.
  10. Buddy of mine has a Triumph that is a V6. Looks like a small car engine sitting there. it is custom though. I need to ask where he had it done. Gm 3800SC on a motorcycle.... Hmmm, that would be a fun ride.
  11. I found a 2st gen for sale in a yard near Kalamazoo, MI.. it was an 85 that was in OK shape. The guy thought he was giving people a deal at $8900 FIRM I had a good hard laugh.
  12. A buddy of mine that drives a truck has added a security VCR + video camera aiming out of the windshield. He records all the time because there are raging idiots all over the roads. He has had the "you rearended me" fake crash too many times and now records it for evidence.
  13. They are all over Ebay, I found one with a Buy it now for $60.00. The car kit came with it. It' was a "refurb" or at least that is what the box said, they never mentioned it in the listing. I have one on it's way to me as well, I'll mount it and put up a photo.
  14. It's just an opinion but my next bike after the 83 venture 1st gen will be a FJR1300. I love the looks of the 1st gen and nothing out there is close to it other than the sport touring bikes. The retro cruisers are pretty to look at and I am sure are a great ride, but they are not for me. I got to sit on an FJR1300 with a long distance Corbin seat a big trunk pegs were moved and custom handlebar risers and repositioned. I sat like I do on my Venture. It was quite comfortable. He had a larger windshield that blocks a lot of wind. Just an idea. and they are dirt cheap new. My local Yama Dealer has a new 2009 in stock they are trying to sell for $10900.00
  15. In many states, if you hit a dog in the roadway the dog owner is responsible for any and all damage to your car. In fact if you stop and they call the cops the cop will write the dog owner a ticket. you are not obliged to stop. It's the same as hitting a deer or rabbit. not all states are this way but I know Michigan is. My wife hit a dog that ran after her car, she called the cops all worried and the cops not only ticketed the owner but Informed her to notify the insurance company of what happened and the dog owner will be responsible for the deductible.
  16. Wow sierrra MC must make them out of solid gold for that price. I just paid $15.00 shipped for a NOS one on ebay for the rear seat which is 5X longer than the drivers one. I might just buy another rear one and coil up the extra cord in the fairing.
  17. I found an excellent GPS for a buddy of mine for his bike. He's quite poor and cant afford a $690.00 Gps so I found him one for $60.00 that is beautiful to read in direct sunlight and at night. It's a Garmin iQue 3600. the car kit we modified to screw it to the bike's dash and it works great. He can even play mp3's on it. No the maps are not current but that does not matter to him. (Or me, I am happy with 2 year old maps) It's the cheapest GPS I could find that you can shine a 60,000,000CP flashlight at it and you can still read it. Just a tip for the poor guys out there. No it's not waterproof. it does not have XM,Sirius,Onstar, or anything else in it like that. I'm getting a second one for me and selling the current GPS I have because of it's huge screen.
  18. If I hit a big enough pothole my centerstand will "klunk" took me a month to figure that one out.
  19. Looks like the carbs need a synching.
  20. 2nd gear failure is not a if but a when. it will blow out 2nd gear, and unless you are able to fix it yourself it will cost over $2000.00 to have fixed. To check test ride the bike, and get on it full throttle in 2nd from a slow speed. Really stress that gear hard. if you feel what feels like a slipping clutch, the gear is already going bad. Mine lasted to 50,000 miles before it is becoming useless to use 2nd. the more it is used, the faster it deteriorates. All 83's and 84's will have the 2nd gear failure. Some 83's have had frame tearing near the rear shock that can cause dangerous failure if it happens on a curve or at highway speed. This does not seem to be a guaranteed to happen problem. Mine shows zero damage in that area, I inspect it 2 times a year. The bike is great, I love my 83. But it's not a bike to be owned by someone that is afraid of tearing apart a bike or fixing it themselves. The bikes can be quirky, they need TLC regularly, they are reliable as all get out if you treat them right, But any bike that is over 25 years old will need this as well.
  21. I have the passenger headset cord that runs to the back of the bike, I need a driver's headset cord that comes from the radio and lays next to the tank cover. Anyone got one they are willing to sell?
  22. Another update. I finally got a second set of radio parts off ebay for $50.00. It seems that 1s gen radio parts have came down to the dirt cheap price levels. So I installed them in my bike to have a live testing platform. 4ohm car speakers make the stereo very VERY loud. At 1/2 volume It's loud enough to start making the speakers distort from maximum cone excursion which makes me think putting in 100uF non polar caps on the speakers would be a good idea to eliminate the BASS from destroying the cones. I also think adding a 4 ohm 30Watt resistor in line with the speaker will cut the volume in 1/2 and help there as well. One audio injection point IS the cassette input lines. when the radio is on and you inject audio into the cassette lines you get that audio out the speakers. Making a small "mixer" to match impedance and levels and a GPS or Radar detector can inject their audio into the FM radio/Ipod audio.
  23. Just changed the Coolant in the 83 today and noticed at the car parts place a product called "water wetter" it makes water/antifreeze pull more heat out of the engine and dump it faster into the radiator. http://www.redlineoil.com/products_coolant.asp Anyone tried this stuff? does it actually work? They claim 30 degree temperature drops.
  24. I'm in for one. Sounds like an excellent winter project.
  25. Ignition switch going bad, High/low beam switch dirty or going bad. I'd start at those first, clean them up with good electrical contact cleaner.
