when I repainted my bike I reinforced that area with fiberglass cloth and resin. It's really poorly designed and needed more strength. 1st gens hold together because we don't have to spend all our time polishing chrome.

I am getting the whole thing finished, it looks like the bulb that is installed in the platinum burners with a chromed heat sink to protect it. I tested a "warm white" color and it was not as bright as the yellow, in fact yellow is brighter than the bright white by a factor of 2. Being yellow, I had an idea, wire up relays so that when the headlight is set for "bright" they are on but blink with the turn signal on that side, set the headlight for "normal" and they will not blink. I think it will take 4 relays, 2 on the blinker lines. One each to make the Foglight on that side turn off when the turn signal blinks on, then back on when the turn signal blinks off. then 2 to override them to not allow operation when the low beam is on. Any interest in this? I can publish the drawings and you can do it with your own relays and wiring. I'd use the bosch 10A relays, so putting them up in the fairing is probably a good idea. I'll have photos of the finished lamps monday. I can sell them for the ballpark price above. if you buy just he bulb assemblies you will have to make a plasticl cover and seal up the lamps yourself. we dont have any seals in stock that can withstand the heat, and a small run like this I wanted to keep the cost down. If I was to seal up the lamp assemblies it would nearly double the price of them. I need to order 20 at a time, so that is 10 sets at a time. I dont get another price break unless we can buy 100 sets. I then pay and place the order and 2 weeks later I get them back to be able to ship out. $60.00 for a set of yellow lamp assemblies. If you want me to seal up a set of burners so you have a set ready to go, $100.00. Sealed up ready to go platinum burners will take longer to ship as I have to physically build them. I dont have $600.00 to put in as credit on these so I will be asking for pre-pay. I'm selling these at my cost, I'm getting paid about $15.00 for an hour and a half of assembling the complete burners. I have not figured out shipping. Any interest at this price point?

Banks are scammers. First most process debits BEFORE credits even if you deposited a large sum of money 3-6 hours before you wrote a check, they will process the check and then the deposit to make sure they generate a bounce fee. So if you transfer say $5500 from your savings that morning and go to a car dealer and buy a car then write the check for the car, your check bounces. I honestly hate all banks, they are designed to try and screw the customer. you have to almost ask about their rules monthly and change your habits according to how they wanted to shuffle them this time. When I bought my last house, I had to have a lawyer write a letter to the bank demanding they release my money. They claimed they had a new "30 day wait" policy from when you cash in your CD to when they give you the money. so I was unable to get my money. They use that 30 days to get free money from your money. And dont get me started how those thieves stole most of our money on the stock market.

Cant remember where I got this.... but it was in my snippets file and the reason why I stopped buying plexus and switched to Lemon Pledge. ------ Lemon Pledge Ingredients: Naphtha, petroleum, light alkylate 5%-10% Polydimethylsiloxanes (Silicon oil) 5%-10% Water 70%-85% Butane 1% -5% Isobutane 1% - 5% Propane 1% - 5% Source: Consumer Product Information Database Silcon based cleaners(silicon oil) are said to be O.K. for Lexan, but not alcohol or ammonia-based cleansers. At this point I was not sure whether any of these ingredients contained alcohol or ammonia, or were safe for Lexan—until I compared them to those chemicals found in Plexus. Plexus ingredients: Alipathic petroleum distillates 23% Isobutane 12% Propane 3 % Source: Plexus Plastic Cleaner MSDS Page 1 of 3 Material Safety Data Sheet I think the rest is water, just like lemon pledge. Another Pledge similarity is listed Under “Appearance and Odor”. It states, “White/Off White creamy emulsion with Lemon Odor in an Aerosol can.” However, there are those “Alipathic petroleum distillates” listed for Plexus in this MSDS, but I believe I found what those are in another MSDS listing for Plexus : Solvent Naptha(Petroleum) light Aliphatic, 23 % - also found in Pledge(5%-10% Naptha/Petroleum & 5%-10% Silicon Oil) In terms of cost, Plexus can go for $16 aerosol can, while Lemon Pledge is about $5 -$7 can. ------

I saw that until I went to my local ace... Nope sorry no chrome in metric I was told. I'm thinking of drilling an tapping both sides to SAE so I can use chrome allen cap screws instead of big hex head bolts. It's not like I'm going to put mirrors on there... Thanks all for the ideas and help. Lonestar, get a aluminum polishing kit from harbor freight and wetsand the clutch and brake caps. you can polish them to a chrome look quite easily.

from the quality of some of the work I have seen dealer mechanics do to a bike, Half rate is twice of what they should get. The dealer here locally will butcher your bike.

Quasi-Scientific Iridium Plug Test (AKA "Magic" plugs)
timgray replied to V7Goose's topic in General Tech Talk
Iridium plugs are really only for lasting 100,000 miles. nothing more. the "special" ones with split cross diagonal eco fire are nothing more than snake oil. My wife's Aztek came factory with Iridium plugs, they have 150,000 miles on them and still look and work good. THAT is their only advantage. -
I run a synthetic because the transmission gears are bathed in it and the bike shifts a LOT smoother with 15W40 Mobil 1 for trucks in it than Yamalube. Also I am hoping that the wear on the 2nd gear thrust washer is reduced so that I can limp the bike along for another 2 years before I can afford to have the transmission fixed.

They are M10 1.25 bolts that are a MAX of 20mm long, Left one is standard thread, right one is left handed thread. Locally, nobody carries metric. every place I went to asking for metric bolts gave me a look as if I was insane for asking for such a thing.
-
At least that is what I think they are. If you have a royale, these screws/bolts are holding your radio controls to the handlebars. If you dont have a Royale, there are plastic plugs over the holes in the clutch and brake reservoirs. I am trying to mount something in those locations and cant find what bolt goes in there. Plus I'm sure the right hand one is left and thread from the looks of it. Anyone know of a store online that may have metric fine thread left hand bolts in chrome? If not chrome then stainless? if not stainless then anything? I'm sure finding a set of stock ones is like finding hen's teeth.

No problem. I still say that if someone wants one of these to check out the listing on ebay. I find it makes a big difference on the car and my testing on the bike showed a marked improvement. The high beam is simply incredible on a dark country road. It's like someone turned on floodlights.

Technically yes, you did not do anything illegal. I'm looking at it as incredibly rude or very bad manners. Asking first would have been the right thing to do. I more than likely would have gladly let you do it, or partnered with you on it if you would have asked. The low beam is shadowed by your inset behind the glass, there is a lot of side light that comes out of that lens and it will light up the road side better when installed on the left side. Actually I will ask for something to be done.... I want you to change the listing to call it a VentureRider.org headlight mod kit. and any you sell from now on to be called that. I'd ask for you to donate a portion from every sale to the site here as well, but that is your decision.

Well Snaggletooth let me know that someone ripped off my idea.... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Yamaha-Venture-83-85-Projection-Headlight-Upgrade-Kit_W0QQitemZ170377748373QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotorcycles_Parts_Accessories?hash=item27ab4e1f95&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245 I really dont care that much about it, but they make it sound like they came up with the whole idea. So if anyone has been waiting for this, There you go. I'm not going to be making any of these outside the prototype I have. Note: dont install the lamps like his photo shows. They are backwards. Install them the other way around as the glass lens one is the low beam and has a better roadside coverage if installed on the right side.

My local Yamaha Dealer is desperate to get sales, he has a set of the 2nd gen Helmet headsets for $50.00. Will the 2nd Gen headsets work on the 1st gen? If so I'm gonna snap these 2 up as it seems that most online are 4X this price.

Yes, if you tap in and leave the existing bulbs you cand add hundreds of led's to your bike that go on with the brake lights. In fact I could make these fog lights in red that will burn out the retinas of all the car drivers behind you when you hit the brakes.
-
Yamaha FJR1300... Test rode one... Holy cow it's fast compared even to my 1st gen. That engine has so much low end torque it almost leaps out from under you.
-
no. you have to change your blinker module to a LED compatable one, which disables the auto cancel. Then the dashboard computer will complain about dead bulbs. so that has to be rewired to disable the dash warning indicators. The 1st gens are a lot of work to get working with LED correctly for Turn and stoplights. ADDING brake light led bars or bar end led signals will work though, the system needs those regular bulbs to work with stock wiring. The fogs, they work no matter what.

Here's some details and questions from everyone answered. 260 Lumens per unit, 35Watt Halogen MR16's are 340-380 Lumens. output from the LED spec sheet. I have a huge heatsink on mine,so I highly doubt the 4-5 watt H3 bulbs on ebay actually work, someoene is welcome to try though, I have a pile of ebay led lights that are useless in my garage. They will not be cheap. The lamp modules I had made will cost about $30.00 each. so 2 are needed for your set of burners. It's because I am not making 10,000 at a time but I have to pay for 20 to be made at a time. Cyan might be illegal in your area, in Michigan if it's not white or yellow facing out the front of the vehicle/bike it's illegal. I find yellow gives better visibility, in fog/rain even better. when I am ready to do this I will need 10 orders at a time. White, warm white, and Yellow are readily available. But there is still a lead time as my projects are last in line over the paying customers jobs. This is not set in stone but a ballpark price. 1 set of 2 bulbs to fit in platinum burners small round lights is $60.00 + shipping, then you need to figure out a way to seal up the front with some thin lexan and silicone the whole assembly closed. $100.00 + shipping if you want them already done and I can get the platinum Burners lights myself, and I assemble the whole shebang so they are completely built and sealed for you. I'll post photos tonight of the warm white, they accidentally made one in warm white for me. It's fun to have a manufacturing facility at your disposal. as for making ones that fit in the taillight and turn signals.... http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/commerce.cgi?product=CAR&cart_id=5589168.20133#1157-xLX3 They have the 1157's and 1156's in Amber and red. you still need to rewire your bike to flash them right. I cant touch that pricing even at my cost, although I am unsure of how well they will work in the Bike's lenses. Again, How things work with these LED lamps designed to replace a stock lamp are never really good. That's why I did not even try to use the reflector design and picked some of the optics available to direct all the light to the front.

Here's some night shots.

right now it's not a replacement. you have to gut the unit and I designed them specific for the Burners platinum small round chrome lights. They only work in that fog-lamp housing. I cant use the reflectors of existing lights as it's very inefficient for LED. the only way to get 100% of the light is by using lenses, so a drop in bulb will not be as effective. I tried making a H3 bulb type LED insert. they dont work as you cant get more than a 1W LED in there and you need a "projector" style lens assembly on the foglight body. anything above 1W needs cooling and you cant fit it in a H3 bulb size. I run with my fogs on 100% of the time. Too many really blind cagers around here that play the "I don't see you" game. These new yellow ones I designed are outright painful to look at, and in the daytime can't be ignored.
-
I had them made, I am waiting for a quote from MFG to tell me how much for a set of the bulbs. To make them waterproof you silicone the burners closed, they are LED so they never need a bulb change. If there is a interest for them here, I'll see how much to get them manufacturered. Maybe I can get a discount. I do knw they are not cheap. the high output 3W LED's are nearly $15.00 each just for the part.

that same light bar is at West Marine for $19.95. Dont buy from ChromeGlow they simply mark up things you can buy at local truck and boat places.

Found at Wally world the "Burners" small chrome foglights that would work great on a motorcycle. Problem is they draw 100 watts and most bikes dont have that to spare. Swapping down to 35Watt bulbs drops the load to 70 watts but that's not good enough for me. I work for a company that is on the cutting edge of LED lighting. the image attached shows 2 different lights in the same small Burners foglights. the white one is a 1 watt white LED matrix, the other is a blinding 3 Watt assembly with focusing lenses. The Image does not show it, but it hurts to look at the Yellow one. I went 1 block down and the bike was incredibly obvious. And yellow is an attention getting color that is legal for the front of the bike. the white ones are a wide flood, dont light the road any. the Yellow ones light the road. what do you guys think? Oh the high power yellow ones draw a total of 6 watts. I can put 3 sets on a bike and still be way under the typical foglight draw. I love how stark the yellow color is, very attention getting. Note photo was taken in bright daylight. I'll take another tonight.
