While I'm a firm believer in rider training, and retraining, and retraining, I'd sure feel better if the DRIVERS had to get a little training now and again too. There's only so much I can do to prevent an crash. Particularly when it's caused by the other guy.

Glad to have met you Erik, so what was your mom-in-law's name? I'm trying to get as many names as I can with the pics on my web site. (Links posted in the Pictures area.)

Want to add extra brake lights.......need ideas please!
Bummer replied to mashley's topic in Watering Hole
Love that RadiantZ tail light board. Too bad they don't make 'em like that anymore. I note that they do make what appears to be the same board for the VTX. I've sent them an email about whether it's the same one turned upside down, and/or if it'll work. I love this light! It's poke your eye bright, probably not really legal since the feds say the light can not glare, but I don't care. It's bright even in the day time. -
With the passive type you have to be going at least 40 for them to make any measurable sound. The sound they do make is mostly out of the range of the deers' hearing anyway. As to active whistles, the jury's still out and probably always will be in the sense that having butter/margarine in the fridge keeps elephants out. Some non definitive links: http://www.ibmwr.org/otech/deerw.html http://www.ibmwr.org/prodreview/deerwsle.html A bit more definitive: http://advance.uconn.edu/2002/021118/02111812.htm A link to info about active deer whistles: http://911phone.net/Alert.htm

Here's a link to my web site. This link is to the Indiana M&E photos. This one is to the Indiana M&E photos with out the frame for those with smaller monitors. Sorry if I didn't get your name in there. I was overwhelmed by the number of new folks I met. Above all, thanks to everyone for coming! A special thanks to Squidley and Sweetnothing for coming from Michigan. Thanks Dan, for taking over lead after my appendix blew up. I'm glad it went off well, and I hope we can continue to get together!

I'm wondering just how much you need. I have a tip laying around if that's what you're looking for. The part from the black plastic thingie (load) up. I broke the load and replaced both antennas with a single Firefly. Cost about $75 at the time. Theoretically the single antenna system should work better since the FM antenna tends to suck up a bunch of the CB's output power.

13k on the rear. I could have gone longer but I replaced it because I was planning to do a lot of riding in Ontario and the center was getting somewhat flat. Sigh. The best laid plans...

Unfit's unfit if you ask me. Being diabetic shouldn't be an excuse for hit and run.

Hi Atwell, I'm afraid I'm unable to ride right now (appendix), but I live immediately off of 465 at the 10th Street exit (first exit after 74 hits 465). If you need ANYTHING, including a break, please don't hesitate to call. 317 919 6743. I have a lot of free time right now and 465 is nearly in my back yard. Now, if I can just get the Doc to change that weight limit...

Woops. My bad. I just looked it up. Charlie Cutsinger is pres of 144 now, not Elmo. If you've purchased a new RSV eventually they'll send you a year's free membership. Mine only took two years.

Next time you're at Dryer's look up Elmo. He used to be the pres of the local chapter, may still be. He works at Dryer's. Shows up on here sometimes too. Welcome. There's a Meet & Eat around Brown Co. area this Saturday. If you can make it check out the Meet & Eat section for info.

Hmmm. The new Buell 1125R uses a Rotax engine. I wonder if that's who they bought. (Road Rage - now that's funny.)

I did notice that the front end was lower too. It wasn't just the rear. This has lead me to wonder about tires. Could the Avons' cross section yield that much lower a total tire height?

My most direct knowledge of that route involves interstates. A sailor on leave isn't looking for the scenic route. Back in "the day" US 421 was a primary "going south" route from here, at least through Indiana and Kentucky. It goes all the way to Wilmington South Carolina. The stretch from Gates City, KY to Greensburg, IN, where it gets swallowed up by I 74, tends to be pretty scenic. I'm afraid I can't address the camping issue. When I rode that route last my Mom-in-law lived in Corbin so we just stayed at the bottom of the holler, with them. My sister in law says she and her husband took US 41 from Florida to Terre Haute. They took four days, but could probably have done it in three.

Congratulations. I don't know how you do it. I'm mid thirties and that's that. Less with a headwind. I've hit the forties before but not often. Been that way since I bought an '85 back in '90. I guess I should be glad I didn't buy this bike for mileage.

Don't know about quality, but I think the OEM rack looks the best. That is, of course, a matter of taste.

I've got six weeks. I can pretty well guarantee by the time I'm on the road again the headset will be gone through again and readjusted a good deal stiffer. I'm also going to be trying to figure out why it sits lower than everyone elses' with the links. Thanks for the heads ups, and all the help, guys.

I'm still glad I went. Ok, so I only got to ride the first day. We had fun, and certainly hope to go back and check out some of what we missed. The way my week turned out only reinforced my belief in the family that this group is. Thank you. And Gayle, thanks again for the sandwiches. They really hit the spot. Love you guys.

Beartooth. Perhaps based in Billings Mt. No, I'm not there to set it up or anything but it's my absolute favorite road ever and if asked will always say "Lets go to the Beartooth."

We made it! Thank you all so very much. Bob and Ruth (the MarinerFans) brought us from Lynn and Lori's (the pegscrapers). I can't thank you guys enough. Before I try, I have to lay down a while. (Doing ok, considering.)
-
Just wanted to post and say that the pegscrapers are going to take us and the bike home. We can't thank you guys enough. You're great! Thank you!

I'm going to get in touch with pegscraper and see about taking him up on his offer. I just don't want to get him up early on a Saturday. Figured I'd wait until at least 8. This way I can get a little real food in me. Most of the week has been jello and broth. With the ton of antiboitics and the pain killers I'm pretty much thrashed. This has caused me to think about how I've always done things. Insurance, sure, but since I've been generally healthy when I planned trips there was never much of an emergency plan. Never needed one. That's gonna have to change. I still have a spleen, and a gall bladder, and with - uh - maturity coming on just picking up and going isn't all that wise. I love this site and the people on it. Thanks everybody! Spear: Not a bad idea as long as I get to come with it.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to regroup. Sitting up shooting the breeze with BradT and Rhonda took more out of me that I had expected. There's no way I should be traveling Saturday. The doc said I was "too stoic", the pain killers wore off long enough for me to realize he's probably right about that too. pegscraper, you have mail... Thanks everyone.
-
Sorry to be a bit slow responding. I had to lay down for a while. BradT and Rhonda just left with the bike. They're keeping it in their garage until I can get back up to get it or it gets relayed - however that works out. Swifty's going to drop us off at home - he's heading to BC the long way and kindly offered to make it a bit longer. We sincerely appreciate ALL the offers of help. Sorry to cut it short, but I'm still more than a little woozy from the pain killers and the entire experience. Can't thank you guys enough.
