Folks, for a long time now I've wondered just how many of these things have been made. (First and Second, though I don't remember the number of my '85 right off hand, so I'll focus on second for now.) Yamaha's not going to tell us, so we'll have to figure it out for ourselves. I'm currently riding '06 number 10,039. I had '05 Midnight number 8752, which was totalled by a madman who turned left twenty feet before the intersection even began. This suggests a max of perhaps 1500 a model year. 3,000 if the standard and S models are numbered seperately. Or do they start over at 0 every year? MMs seem to have their own number set. Does every year get one? Does anyone have an '06 with a number below 8752? How about an '05 with a number above 10,039? Ultimately I'm trying to figure out just how rare these things are. Anyone else want to play along?

Thanks. I try. Hey, all this premature gray has to be good for something.

I don't think the problem is brand related, actually. I've gotten more cold shoulders from the BMW crowd. Personally I think that attitude, from anyone, comes from their own self doubts. I love my ride. I smile a lot. I wave at everyone. Well, everyone I can. Sometimes it just ain't wise. What could possibly motivate someone to be upset with someone else over what they ride? Doubt is the only thing I can see. Something along the lines of "I spent all this money and he looks happier than I am." Clearly this isn't a problem for everyone. Freezy's perfectly cool about it all. Snarly Bill is too. They are satisfied within themselves and act the part (aside from when they get rubbed the wrong way, perhaps.) So, my suggestion is: Next time someone snubs you, just smile. You ride one of the rarest bikes on the road. A rolling work of art. All the right curves in all the right places, and hands down the sexiest color. Let the real problem be theirs.

I have no insurance related advice, just GET WELL! Congratulations on being able to tell the tale.

Target fixation due to fatigue. Can happen to anyone. In fact it's probably already happened to most of us, with varying results. Good luck both with healing and repairing the ride.

That really inhales sharply through pursed lips. I'm rubbing my leg just thinking about it. Happens every time I hear the word "Crushed". Get well soon! I know I'd rather splash than bounce.

Classical clarinet anyone? I think I still remember Greensleeves. Maybe Don can play along. Strum strum squeeeeeeeeek honk. Ouch. About those earplugs... Meanwhile Irene said "Ooooh Garth" and smacked me up side the head. Didn't help. No accounting for taste. She likes the Ditzy Chicks.

Thanks! I certainly enjoyed meeting everyone. I had a good time, considering. Funny how an exploding appendix can bring camaraderie and brotherhood into focus.

Pink Floyd? Jethro Tull? I hear Procol Harem's still touring. On a more modern note KT Tunstall does a great solo version of Black Horse and a Cherry Tree. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DehtqLVmdcA]YouTube - kt tunstall - black horse and the cherry tree[/ame] Oh, wait. You were serious. Old rocker. Can't help myself. What ever works for you guys. I'll even suffer Country out of love for my brothers, though I will bring ear plugs. Ok, ok, serious answer: A DJ would be more content neutral. Meanwhile I'll settle for the sprinklers at the campground.

Has this happned to you?
Bummer replied to Sideoftheroad's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Actually I broke my CB antenna's load when I was taking the tank off. Didn't put the antenna up, stepped in, click. Easy as pie. Did you know you can convert to a single Firefly and wind up with more efficient CB output? The AM/FM mast absorbs a bunch of the signal. (I've read 20% but I haven't measured it or anything.) Costs less too. I know that doesn't help much if you already have the stuff... Symmetry has its price. -
That's pretty cool. I renamed VIP to ICE, but it doesn't change the icon.

Looks like a great trip full of fun, family, and friends. Thanks for sharing.

Backfiring after sync
Bummer replied to YamaGeezer's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Any chance they followed Yamaha's carb sync instructions? Of course there's no way for you to know, but if they did it probably made them worse. This is one of many things I think it's best to do for oneself. Nobody loves your stuff as much as you do. There is no "good enough" under my shade tree. FWIW, free carb syncs at Bummer's house. Might as well get some use out of that two foot long screwdriver. A little far to travel you say? Hey, it's a Venture. Got a valve adjustment tool too, but I'm not volunteering for that one.- 4 replies

Sweet! There's a nostalgia moment.

Well, first off is it set for SP? (Sorry, always start with the doh stuff. Don't ask how I know.) Middle button. One press. Should be either HS for headset or SP for speakers. After that I'd check the plugs under the hood. I have dielectric grease in all of mine. Tends to keep down the hassles. After that I'd take it to the dealer and say something along the lines of WTF? Still got some warranty left, might as well use it.

Hi! I like to add up the total load I'm going to be running with the lop off the right number. eg 200 lbs, 20 psig in rear shock. 400 lbs, 40 psig in rear shock. I put 6 in the front and just leave it there. Keeps it from bottoming on hard braking. Where in Indy. If we're ever in the same place at the same time I can show you the pumps I have for the suspension.

Not since all the wires rattled loose. Ok, that was the '85 and I fixed it by just resoldering all the connections, but time does take its toll.

I got a 3" under Clearview with vent. The passenger gets a little more wind, so I got her a new hat. Symax 2. Now we're both happy campers.

Very interesting route. The Blue Ridge can be a beautiful thing if you don't get stuck behind a Winnebago. Glad to see you had a safe, and uneventful, trip.

Yamaha actually put a tiny bit of vibration back into the RSV. Nothing really noticeable, just a little something that's supposed to give it character. The handlebars do not vibrate. It's more of an ear thing. Bear in mind this is not a V-twin. It does not thump like a V-twin. It likes RPMs and will happily spin well over 6grand. Mine reminds me of an indy car engine when it's bumping into the rev limiter at 100 in third (Dyna @ 7250 - no speedo healer). She screams purty. I heard a couple of wingers bragging about placing a glass of water on their bikes and having no ripples. The RSV will probably have some small ripples. A V-twin will fling the glass across the parking lot. Since I don't really need a glass of water on my gas tank, I never bothered to try this. You should really ride one to see. Take mama. Do not be in a big hurry to shift gears. Let that baby breathe. These are very comfortable bikes, and my beard has been all gray for a while now. (I blame it on the kids. Couldn't possibly be mileage.)

Hmmmm. Trailering eh? Well, stop at Billings and park the truck. Get on the bike and take 212 toward Yellowstone. When you get to the top keep an eye out and turn left on Chief Joseph Highway, which will take you into Cody. When you get to Cody turn around an do it the other direction. Pick up the truck and return to your normally scheduled programming. Sure. You could do it in the truck, pulling the bike, but how sad would that be? 212 from Red Lodge to Yellowstone is the absolute DO NOT MISS road. That's the Beartooth! If I'm within a couple of states I figure I'm there and I'm going. Went to Ft. Collins last year, by way of the Beartooth. Gonna go see Crazy Horse? Oooohhh. Beartooth. I'm trying to figure out how to go to Arkansas by way of the Beartooth. Getting ready for next year, you know. Here's why:

Mine melted. Well, actually I pulled it out of my wallet to look at it and it pretty much fell apart. (Folded up piece of paper with ICE on both outer sides.) Time to make a new one. Hadn't added that to my cell, but will in the next few minutes. Thanks for the reminder guys.

Google lists: Riverview At Camp Nelson RV Park 468 Camp Nelson Rd Lancaster, KY 40444 (606) 548-2113 That's off of 27. Somewhat out of the way. There's also: Cummins Ferry Campground 2558 Cummins Ferry Rd Salvisa, KY 40372 (859) 865-2003 That one appears to be a couple of miles east of 127 just after Mcafee, KY. Pretty much on your route. You might try giving them a call. (I've never been there, just did a google search.)
