Don't waste any time at all thinking like that! It saddens me, but certainly does not tire me. Not bored, but concerned. Anything that helps is more than OK with me!

In my case it's strictly taste buds. No great argument for or against, I just prefer shaft. Mostly I'm just very happy with what I have, so I'm not longing for something else. I save most of my grumping for the whole air cooled v-twin part. I just don't want one until I have a stable of at least four other liquid cooled multis parked behind my Venture. Anybody spotted a flock of pigs? I keep hoping. Nice enough bike, though. Not as pretty as the RSV, but quite adequate.

Ok You old Timers who been asking How I have been
Bummer replied to E-Fishin-C's topic in Watering Hole
Good to see from you again! Yep, those are fish. Some nice ones too. Most of what I've caught look more like the blue one. -
chrome breather covers

Yamaha part STR-4XY27-72-01 for smooth, STR-4XY27-72-02 for ball milled, which is the one in your pic. Both have the Star logo. List is 329.95. From '02 they've required K&N filters at about $100 for the set, depending on where you get them. -
I see he's wearing a full face helmet. That's probably a wise idea.

I'm a little shocked to see that I'm the big spender here. I've been laid off for almost four months! All I did was chip in a little each month this has been going on. Well, that and my Mom matched me for the cause. Apparantly it adds up. Now come on people. Dig down. Pump your relatives. Squeeze your friends. This is for the babies! Lets do Mean Dog proud.

Passing lights and turn signals 2002 Venture
Bummer replied to RossKean's topic in General Tech Talk
Federal law mandates maximum candela ratings per vehicle type. As a consequence passing lamps are only legal with low beams throughout the US. This is the federal vehicle code, which has naturally been written for ease of readability, nudge nudge wink wink. It doesn't actually mention passing lamps. Just total output. Each state has its own statutes, most of which are pretty goofy. Indiana spends a lot of space talking about minimum and maximum heights. They also allow only one passing light and one running light, each of which can be the same size and have the same output but different allowable placements. Other states talk about illuminating something at a specific distance. If it comes to an argument between State and Federal, Federal wins. My passing lamps are on their own switched circuit. I have a headlight modulator on the high beam. I set my lights up this way so that the passing lamps would work with the modulated high beam during the day time. Basically I just take responsibility for turning them off when the high beam is on at night. Of course I worry about that a lot. My son in law is a LEO. His attitude is basically that because of the way the laws are written he has no way of knowing if the lighting intensity is actually legal, just don't blind him (or presumably anyone else). -
While the comparison is way too funny, I must echo Pegscraper and Maineac. It's a striking bike. They certainly did their own thing. I have a cousin who rides one. He seems quite happy with it. That's cool - take pride in your ride and all that. Personally I'm not interested in a two cylinder traditional engine with belt drive. Still, the Vision deserves a spot in the Motorcycle section of the Smithsonian. It is a work of art in its own right. Of course I think the RSV should also be there simply because it's the most beautiful bike on the road.

I had to chew on this one for a bit. What do I really do? Hmmmmmm. I'm with Goose, and others. Pass. Do not linger. Do not hot rod. Certainly do not ride along side - ever. Dropping back will just get you run over by the next one. If I had an actual choice I probably would not choose to be in that situation, but on the other hand I've ridden through stuff where a sane individual would park their cage. I rode through the edge of a tornado because I didn't know (until I got home) and I didn't have a viable choice. It wiped out some apartments about five miles north of where it made me fairly miserable. Some times you gotta do what you gotta do. I do like the idea of chatting them up on the CB, though I'm not sure I would try the whole CB lingo version. I've asked if Venture riders had their "ears on" before. Apparantly one trucker felt the "ears" itched. If I do it, English is going to have to do. I've never had any luck hailing the occasional Venture, so I'm not expecting much luck with the truckers either.

New looking for direction on pipes
Bummer replied to Billie's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Did you wrap the baffles or leave them unwrapped? I lust for a set of those something awful, but don't want a lot of added noise. -
Hmmm. Good point. From the look of it I'll bet it's a bit lumpy right where your knees go. There was a lot good to be said about those rubber tank side pads on the bikes from the '70s.

Hey Dan, you look good on that V-Max. Unfortunately due to family issues I'm not going to be able to get away today. Maybe tomorrow. With any luck the rain'll be done for a while. It looks like it's pushing up and may miss us. (Fingers crossed.)

I'm not sure about the design yet. I may like it, as an artistic study. It'll make a fine museum piece. Air cooled V-Twin? No thanks. I'm not interested in stepping that far back into history.

Congratulations Gary, and the very best wishes for the future for Matt and Valerie!

fall morning, rethinking ClearView ouch
Bummer replied to Seaking's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
RainX will not hurt the Clearview. I've been using it for two years with no problems at all. I'm under the impression it'll cause the stock shield to become opaque. From his post I'd say johnny-canuck can tell us about using it on a stocker. -
All work and no play makes Dan a little slower than normal? See now, I hadn't noticed this part. I'm less than three miles from the track, so I have to go by a few times, just to see what's up. I might even stop since I don't have to get a big ticket. Unfortunately I won't be able to make the race - family reunion in Terre Haute. One irritating point to it all: They're rebuilding the interstate on this side of town and they've closed the 21st Street bridge. That takes away one of the good short cuts to the track. I used to be able to slip in between the traffic control roadblocks.

Anyone want to check out the schedule of events? I'm particularly amused by the stunting competition they're having downtown. I'm betting they won't be keeping both tires on the pavement. Here's a list of vendors. Free motorcycle parking (while it lasts) on the north end of the track. The whole idea of the police checking for loud pipes strikes me as funny. I was downtown in the wife's pickup the other day and got passed by two Indy motorcycle cops. Both were running loud pipes.

"Did I make a mistake" is a hard question to answer. Most Ventures seem to be trouble free. Maybe an annoyance here or there, but overall a very sound design. On the other hand once in a while we see one come by with problems. Not that I'm superstitious or anything but I don't know how much I want to say about the amount of time mine has not spent at the dealer. I did have to get the bracket for the wind deflector on the front fork replaced under warranty. I went ahead and put the chrome ones on right after that anyway. And I did let them do the first maintenance. Other than that it's just been there for me to pick up tiny bits that I've stripped out or lost. Seat bolts leap to mind. I hope yours settles out and becomes as reliable as the rest.

Clearview warning
Bummer replied to James Ardrey's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I'm wondering how much of a part the size may have played. Xx tall gives the air a lot of surface to push against. On the other hand you need/want the size you need/want. Just pondering. -
Welcome Lew. Use the built in system. It works great. All you need is a pair of headsets. A lot of guys go with Edsets, others use J&M. It uses the same plug as the Wing does.

Gary, we are so sad to hear this. Irene's and my thoughts and prayers are with you, your Dad, and your family.

Congratulations! May you have a happy life together, full of blessings, and fine rides.

I don't know if I'll ever need it but it's filed in the back of the head. Thanks for posting it.
