I'm glad you guys enjoyed the videos. It's something of a gamble every time. I set the camera up on the mount, turn it on and off, and hope for the best. I've finally figured out how to get more music and less wind noise, which is why this one still has audio. It's all a learning experience.

Lewis, I'm afraid I don't have much in the way of video software. Cinelerra crashes every time I try to do anything with it, and LiVES doesn't have many features. Right now I can remove audio but not enhance it. I'll be happy to try, if you can send me the file, but I sure can't make any promises.

Irene's and my thoughts and prayers remain with you still. I simply can not imagine...

I'm saddened to read that you lost of a member of your family. We lost our dog to old age a few years back. I still can't imagine seeking a replacement. They become too much a part of us.

That's great, Lewis! Thanks for the video. Eck, I liked that part too. Real heart warming.

Videos of the ride from the Flying J to the Ronald McDonald House at St Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis. If you don't like ZZ Top you might want to turn the volume down. And for those with MKI First Gens, make sure those side bags get locked on. If you forget to shoot the mechanisms with a little white grease they can get dry and stick. Then when the lock doesn't engage completely it'll be the whole side bag sliding down the road jelly side down.

Irene and I got home about 7:30. We had a wonderful time. We got to make some new friends and spend time with some not so new ones. It was great! Many thanks to Lewis for setting it up, to Brad and Bobbie for their special encouragement, to those who rode for being there, and to those who donated for making it happen.

Hi Jerry, By hand here too. Never more than 3/4 turn after gasket to surface contact - car or bike. If you overdo it they can be hard to remove.

Fantastic news! I hope things keep heading in a good direction for you.

Irene and I are leaving the Indy area Friday morning. We're going to spend Friday and Saturday night at the Midtown/Medical Center Holiday Inn Express. We're planning on being at the Flying J by 11am Saturday. Probably a little before.

Sorry guy(s), different time, different direction. Sure hope you have a safe ride though! See you there.

I've done the following a couple of times to save friends' computer data. I've never done it with XP. You can get a Linux live disc - Knoppix, Ubuntu, etc - which runs a complete Linux OS off of the CD. They're free for the download online. Boot from the CD. Mount your windows partition (sometimes this is done automatically). Copy your important data to an external hard drive - pics, config files, etc. Then you can reboot to windows and work with it using the standard windows tools and perhaps save it, or, failing that start fresh. You can then copy the stuff you put on the external drive back onto windows.

I'm thinking these people have relatives all over the place.

Glad you made it through the live practice. And it's not even a full moon.

Thanks for the info. Irene and I are already scheduled and reserved. We've been excited about it for a while now! The weather liar is even making sunny promises.

This unit can be wired to either pattern flash constantly or for a few seconds then go solid. I have one on my wing light. It is, however, forty bucks.

Prayers sent. Will send more. We'll also be thinking about the family.

Mounting Driving Lights........
Bummer replied to BoomerCPO's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Got a son in law who's a LEO. I tried to ask him about motorcycling lighting laws. He basically said there are too many variables, just don't blind him and it won't come up. I'm thinking that if they're off they're just a couple of lumps of chrome and glass. Most LEOs would probably look the other way over out of State riders. However, last year the Tennessee police were on the Dragon hanging paper over absolutely everything the weekend before Irene and I went. 18 LEOs in 10 miles. Seems there had been a couple of deaths the week before and they were having a crackdown. There was a big write up about it on Killboy's site. We almost didn't go. We went ahead and rode it the following Tuesday and barely saw a soul. Pretty much everything depends on some form of chance. Really I just did some research about motorcycle laws and learned some oddball stuff. Every now and then some of it comes in handy. FWIW I couldn't find anything in the Michigan vehicle code online about lights. It would appear they default to the federal. Of course they may just not have it online. IANAL. -

Just keep in mind that some States, Indiana and Connecticut included, have a minimum light height of 16". Tennassee was ticketing everyone for stuff just like this when they had the Dragon crackdown a while back. -

I have the OEM passing light assembly. The light bar has the mounts for the wind deflector brackets at a poor angle. If the bottom rubber bumper thingie doesn't come in firm contact with the fork the deflector mounting plate you're talking about will crack, and potentially fall off unless you catch it first. They seem to do ok if they are set up to be in contact and not vibrate. I realize that doesn't actually answer your question, but there it is. If you do try it, make sure the rubber bumper thingie remains in firm contact with the fork and regularly check where the brackets bolt on for cracks. Also, DiamondR makes a replacement bracket. I have 'em along with the nifty chromium deflectors they sell. Again, not a light, but they sure look better than the plastic ones.
