  1. My first RSV had 'em swapped and someone had to tell me. Now that I've converted mine to a single Firefly it's hard for me to not notice.
  2. Unless that was an optical delusion, yep. Seems to happen a lot. Dreyer Motorsports is the oldest Honda dealer in the US. Up until about three months ago every RSV they've had in the Yamaha show room has had the antennas swapped. I kept telling 'em. The sales people kept patting me on the head and rolling their eyes. I wound up shooting the breeze with the boss and told him about it. Rest assured, now they get it right. He said that the instructions they have must be incorrect. Um, whatever. You can verify easily enough. The AM/FM antenna's wire is routed forward, under the seats and tank, and into the fairing. The CB antenna's wire is routed into a black plastic box under the trunk. Easy swap. The folding mounts unscrew from the bases. Both threaded portions are the same (non standard) size. It takes longer to tell about it than do it.
  3. Congratulations on the new bike. It's a beauty. Remember, it's "Safety Chrome". It might not help, but it's worth a try. By the way, the CB antenna goes on the clutch side.
  4. The single antenna tech article Ross mentioned is basically an illustrated version of the Marshall Mod plus. I've seen 2' antennas at truck stops, but I went with the 3' Firefly because of it's superior reputation. While I can't hear the output, I'm told my single Firefly system works quite well. Some folks prefer the look of dual antennas, even though that is a less efficient antenna configuration. If that's the case for you, just build an antenna/base on each side. In the end, a lot of this is a matter of taste. Most of us seem to use the CB to talk to folks we're riding with, so a truly high output system isn't really necessary. If you have questions, ask. If you find a good quality folder, please pass the word.
  5. Google for "Fallen Heroes Patch". It's also called "Defenders of Freedom". There are quite a few places selling them. They appear to come in two sizes, 12" and 5". Mine's the 12". I haven't seen one, but I suspect the 5" would lose some detail. There are also other types (LEO/Fire, for example).
  6. I think this patch pretty much says it all. I will never be able to thank those who stood for, and with, me enough.
  7. From the side.
  8. The tech area works fine for me. Are you guys sure it's not a problem with your OS? (Sorry, couldn't help myself.)
  9. Filter: KN-303 Got 'em from Amazon, still looking for a local source. This online article illustrates why. Oil: Yamalube Synthetic. Nobody around consistently has an acceptable synthetic. I tried Amsoil, but it's a pain to get. Yamaha has a new synthetic. They recommend it. The dealer has it on the shelf.
  10. [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=10518]Here's a write up[/ame] with photos done by Tartan Terror. It's quite good, with pics and all. Just bear in mind that the dots that are mentioned may wind up anywhere. That part rotates. Just match up the dots, where ever they may be, and you'll be fine. It's an easy job.
  11. FWIW I wired my music player adapter, using aux and power, into the trunk through the hole originally used by the CD player wiring. I just start the player and drop it into the pouch in the trunk.
  12. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.
  13. The Venture audio system uses the C-BUS communication format. C-BUS was replaced by CeBus years ago. I found an Ipod to CeBus adapter, but nothing to go from CeBus to C-BUS. What I've learned from the car guys: In order to use the CD input for any other device, you have to supply the CD's "Magazine Loaded" signal to the audio control system. So far the only way anyone has found to do this is to simply keep the CD player and route the audio from the Ipod. One guy uses a switch to select CD or Ipod. Either way a CD has to be in the player and spinning for the system to accept the audio input.
  14. Sigh. So true, so true. Mend well and rapidly Tinkerbell!
  15. I run a modulator on my high beam. I also put a modulator, activated by the horn circuit, on my passing lamps. Once run over, twice shy.
  16. You know that's true! One of my favorites is fried corn. Every summer as the sweet corn's coming in Irene goes to a farm stand and buys what seems like half a truck full. We shuck it, she cuts it off the cob, and it's in bags in the freezer as quickly as we can get it there. (Trying to beat, as much as is possible, the sugar to starch conversion that goes on once it's picked.) Come Thanksgiving she pulls out a bag or three and fries it up with butter in a big cast skillet. Wow.
  17. The H (130mph) is the speed rating. The 80 (992#) and 71 (761#) are the load index numbers. Are the beads closer together on the narrower tire? I'm figuring it was just mashed onto a shelf tighter than the other. Just guessing, of course.
  18. I slowly ran the zipper up and over the curve of the trunk wing. As I slid it across the curve of the passenger back rest the fabric teasingly parted revealing Black Cherry curves and glittering chrome. That's when two things dawned upon me: Black Cherry is the sexiest Venture color. I really like the EZ-Zip cover. For the convenience, of course.
  19. This won't be any quicker, and may be a bit late, but: Normally the CB lives in a box under the trunk. Since you don't have the stock CB you should have some space there. How about facing down between the braces under the trunk? Perhaps a couple of wire ties for testing, then a more permanent mount once the placement is proven acceptable...
  20. The first place that comes to mind is inside the fairing. There's some space on either side of the radio gear. I have a full sized, old style, radar detector receiver mounted pointing mostly forward in there on the brake side. I've also added a set of electric horns, and a stack of relays. If I can squeeze all that in there I'm pretty sure that alarm module should fit. I've never had to replace the starter relay, so I can't really point you directly to it, but it lives inside the side covers under the seat. I'm expecting it to be near the fuel filter in the center, or on the clutch side, but that's just a guess. It's been a while since I've been in there rooting around.
  21. The instructions in the service manual are incorrect. Check out [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=258]this post[/ame] for the corrections. You're also going to need a long #2 phillips screw driver. A foot might do. 16 inches is a bit long. There's a screw on the left that has to be adjusted from the right side.
  22. I'm sitting here going "Hmmm did the fan..." (Read the body of the post) "Oh." Good one Jerry. Got me.
  23. That's terrible, Carlos. Irene and I certainly hope your son pulls through, and soon! Stay strong. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
  24. I just got my pins in the mail. They look great! Bob, thanks for doing this.

    Here it is

But Dan, they look so good together. Congrats on the find. Good luck on the decision.
