Think it could be the ignition module under the seat? Perhaps both, each causing a different problem: Erratic display from the dash module and the miss from the spark box?

Brad and Lonna, Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do. Hey, he's your Dad, after all. My Mom had both hips done quite a few years back. She handled it well with no complications. I'm sure with all these years of practice the medical world has only gotten better at it. Doing it certainly made things better for her. You'll all be in our thoughts and prayers.

So it would seem that newer cars are, in fact, substantially more safe for the occupants than the older cars without air bags, crumple zones, and many years of safety related innovations. Isn't that interesting?

Summertime Turtle Blues Ball and Chain Wow. Not exactly a pretty voice, but beauty comes in many flavors. The raw emotion that came across was amazing.

Ron, This can be a rough time of the year. I'm sure these losses haven't helped. I lost my Mom in November after ten years as primary care giver. It was time, perhaps a bit past, but that really doesn't help much at first. All I can tell you is: One foot in front of the other, and remember the good times. Best of luck with it all, and take care.

Have you tried washing it with a strong dish washing detergent? I've used a vehicle soap for a few years now because dish washing detergent tends to strip the wax off while the vehicle soap does not. It might take several tries, or even the straight concentrate, but it seems worth a try if you haven't already. Irene said that she used to use an ammonia solution on wax buildup on linoleum, but I don't know if that'd be a good idea on a windshield.

Oil and gas in exhaust
Bummer replied to thoward's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
How high is your oil level? It should be right at the middle of the sight glass when the bike's upright. High oil level can sometimes allow oil to wind up in the wrong places. -
How will we protect ourselves from the Martians?

They didn't so much go to, as get taken. Here's a source. They also have a smoke colored one. You can get the LED boards from these guys. While you're at it you might want to look at these turn signal inserts. Load equalizers are not really needed. They just flash a little fast, which people notice even more. I have the early 128 LED version of the RadiantZ tail light. It's so bright that the plate couldn't be seen at night. It has 3 plate LEDs but the tail light portion completely overwhelms them. At ten feet the plate was lost in darkness under the trunk. I already had a chrome plate frame, so I added a chrome six LED plate light similar to the one in the pics in this thread. Unfortunately I can only find a vertical version at this time, however for those without an existing plate frame, they have 'em with the built in light.

There are several adapters available. They all look a bit different so you'll want to shop around. 5/16 to 10mm. A quick Google brought up these: http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/3/14/138/14906/DPITEM/Cruiser-Motorcycle-Mirrors-Drag-Specialties-Stealth-Mirror-Adapters.aspx http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/3/14/138/9904/ITEM/Kuryakyn-Yamaha-Cruiser-Mirror-Adapters.aspx http://www.hellrisercustoms.com/bikes/11/category/Handlebars (About a third of the way down the page.)

Oldest & YOungest: WHO WAS 77 YR OLD RIDER? Lost record. Help!
Bummer replied to Zfrebird4's topic in Watering Hole
I have a sister-in-law who's had her 30th birthday somewhere around 35 times. -
No specific brand suggestion, but I went with a "sports cam". They seem to be more shake resistant. Look for something that has a car charger available and can record while powered. Mine won't and it's only good for about 40 minutes of recording time. On top of that I tend to ruin batteries by not discharging them regularly, but keeping them charged. This last season I didn't get any decent video because of battery problems. You can check out examples of video from a Samsung sports cam (not exactly an endorsement, just an example) at http://home.comcast.net/~s_bumgardner.

You might just get it. Sigh. Oh so true. One study I read indicated that we can only keep track of a very limited number of things at any given time, and driving alone uses that up all by itself. Anything additional takes away from the attention needed for a function of driving. Another study indicated that while cell phone use and being drunk lead to somewhat different results, both were about as bad and both were very different from attentive behavior. A 20 year old has about the skill level (reflexes, situational awareness, etc.) of an 85 year old while talking on a cell phone. It only gets worse from there. Hands-free only extended the distraction time due to greater use. Absolutely! Back in the day when the entire inside of a car was made out of metal, and you weren't strapped in, people were more careful. They had to be or they got hurt and they knew it. I say ban seat belts and air bags, require the 12" spike, and let 'em use their cell phone, yak at their buddies, play with their radio, whatever. Put the consequences back where they belong. It won't take long for the problem to correct itself.

Passing Lights Switch
Bummer replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
DMW, that looks like a pretty nice solution for those who do not need additional switches. It doesn't look significantly more difficult than setting up the passing lamps in the first place. They really need to be on a relay and this just adds one more connection to the existing wiring. I've bookmarked their site. Thanks for the info. -
By eyebrow kit could he mean the visors for the lights? Looks like fringe on the lever(s) - not real good. It does have the trunk rack. Then there is the math. MSRP 18k. Paid 20k. Asking 14k. Save 8k? If he paid 20k and didn't get at least 3k in chrome extras he didn't do well at all. Of course there is one overwhelmingly redeeming point, it's Black Cherry; the sexy color.

Passing Lights Switch
Bummer replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I can't say if others notice it, but I don't. Of course it's sort of symmetrical. I have a chrome tach on top of the right master cylinder and a chrome switch box on the left master cylinder. Bear in mind, the right side switch assembly wasn't brushed or chromed and it took me a couple of months to notice. Plus I'm going to be replacing my front brake master cylinder with a 14mm unit, and I don't care it it's chrome or brushed as long as it's the right size. Perhaps I'm not the best judge of the glaringly obvious. -
Passing Lights Switch
Bummer replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
The switch base replaces the metal part of the existing reservoir cover. The original plastic and rubber parts are re-used. The body of the switch box slips onto the cover and is bolted from the back. I ran the wires alongside the other wiring running from the audio head. It's on the "wrong" side, I have the Baron tach on the right, so it's a tight fit. The third pic shows the adapter I crafted to move the audio head to gain clearance. I do not think the switches with longer toggles would work on the left. Of course if you do not plan to use the Baron tach it would be a straight forward install on the right. -
Push the Select button for at least two seconds.

Passing Lights Switch
Bummer replied to rumboogy's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Ways to mess up? Well, you could always drill the holes for the trunk rack in the wrong places. All I can say about that is measure a dozen times and drill once. Definitely use a relay. There are instructions in there's info in the Relay FAQ in [ame=http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=43150]this thread[/ame]. (In the spirit of deja vu all over again...) I installed a 3 switch box that mounts on the clutch reservoir in place of the cover. It's supposed to go on the brake reservoir, but that already has a Baron's tach on there. The switch box I used is from Kuryakyn. Since I used it on the left I had to make a small plate to move the audio head about an inch away from the reservoir. Harder to explain than to do. If you decide to try this and need more details, holler. -

Nope. In fact, lean too hard on that back brake and it'll throw you on the ground and stomp on you. Unlike the fronts it's a four piston caliper. The rear brake, and/or too quick a downshift into too low a gear, will stop the rear tire NOW. Not good. Mostly I think this is a matter of relying on the rear brake far more than the fronts (pure speculation). I know I use the rear a lot during low speed maneuvers, which probably eats up the pads even faster. In an attempt to lessen the effectiveness of the back brake some of us have installed a metering valve. I'm currently experimenting with putting one of the front brakes on the rear. I put four piston calipers on the front and have the old two piston calipers in a box, so I thought I'd give it a try. There are complications involving the master cylinders so I don't know how this is going to work out yet. Once I know how it works I'll let everyone know in the Second Gen Tech area. V7Goose is putting together a FAQ in the Second Gen Tech area that you'll want to read if you haven't already.

That's a fantastic road. It's a definite don't-miss. If you can while you're in the area, ride the Durango/Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad up to Silverton and back. Double wow!
