  1. My coin is blank on both sides. I'm hoping for an edge.

This is unbelievably important. Nothing like taking a video of a place you may never get to visit again and finding that there's a bug fuzzing it all up. My camera eats up 25 megs every time the button gets pushed. I have two batteries for the GoPro. Each battery will allow me to take 7 gigs of video. I have a 32 gig SD for the GoPro and 4 8 gig SD cards for the camera. Plus various spares. I never delete the raw videos or photos. Different strokes and all that. Of course that has a serious price. I build my own computers and started this box with 2.4 TB of space. I filled it up and added a 3 TB drive. Plus I have 2 TB of external drives and a box I swap old hard drives in and out of, then stack the drives on a shelf. That allows me multiple copies. One may die, but all of them won't at the same time - and if they do I'm really not likely to care - end of the world and all that. Not a cheap hobby, but then I have a few videos of riding the Dragon, and a couple of driving my 370Z Roadster there as well. Videos of riding with Dano and others on the Beartooth Pass. Videos of rides with Leadwolf and Tinkerbell. Videos with Squid and Lonna. Lots of memories I truly cherish. In the end it's more than worth it.

I have the second version of the GoPro Hero. I use a Ram mount attached to the right mirror base. The mounting system places it just to the right of the windshield. There are a few issues but nothing really major. GoPro has listened to their customers and have fixed some, if not all, of the problems on their latest version. I've taken quite a few videos. At first I posted them on YouTube, but after a while that became too time consuming, mostly because of editing issues. I've had problems getting editing software for the computer OS I use. I have enjoyed having and using the GoPro, but it can be a time and hard drive space consuming side hobby.
  4. I have. From a distance the one I saw looked a lot like those eagles.
  5. It's good to hear about the extent of the injuries. Sounds like it could be a lot worse. Irene and I are willing Joyce as much strength as we can. While I was down back in '05 we learned that the one in the waiting room has the harder job. Mend quick, Larry!
  6. Thanks for letting us all know. Truly terrible news. Irene and I will be here hoping and praying that Larry isn't badly hurt in spite of the ride he must have taken.
  7. , Brad! May you have many more!
  8. I don't care which direction I go, but I do have a strong day preference: Tuesday. Weekends are absolutely out. Fridays and Mondays can have long-weekenders. Tuesdays have had the least people of any days I've been there. That's a good thing. And yes, the Cherohala is a must-do.

  12. In Chrome, I right clicked on the avatar and selected Copy image URL, and then Open image in new tab. Each time I got the following message: Duplicate headers received from server The response from the server contained duplicate headers. This problem is generally the result of a misconfigured website or proxy. Only the website or proxy administrator can fix this issue. Error 349 (net::ERR_RESPONSE_HEADERS_MULTIPLE_CONTENT_DISPOSITION): Multiple distinct Content-Disposition headers received. This is disallowed to protect against HTTP response splitting attacks. I added the colors to distinguish the specific menu items chosen and the actual message returned. The image displays normally in Opera and Firefox (Linux - no Interwebz Exploder here). Is that Mabry's Mill?
  13. Is the fluid in the reservoir going down? If you're referring to the rear shock I'd wonder about the shock going bad. They often leak oil as they're going.
  14. I got the stainless ones from DiamondR accessories. Unfortunately right now it looks like all they have are the brackets. You can try bidding on the ones on Ebay. That has to be a better deal than paying $250 for a complete set through a Yamaha dealer.
  15. Lisdexya can be rugoh.
  16. A bit annoying, still I suspect bug spray may not help. I have a fly swatter at hand.
  17. Ok, I guess I don't understand what you're looking for. Those are the Yamaha rails that sit up off of the lid, can have bungies tied to them to hold stuff, and look good when they don't have stuff tied to them.
  18. This may be a bit more than you want to spend, but someone on Ebay is selling a set of the Yamaha billet ones. Just search Ebay for "YAMAHA ROYAL STAR VENTURE BILLET SADDLEBAG HINGE KIT". Seller is "Yamahaonestopshop". Of course for the price they want I'd just peel the existing ones off and make a template from them. And get 'em made from stainless. Yamaha aftermarket chrome doesn't seem to last very well.
  19. Try an Ebay search for "yamaha venture saddlebag lid rails".
  20. Yes. Or at least I did until the wiring got pinched. Now I'm looking for a replacement of the same type. No cover. The one I used was built-in with a waterproof display.
  21. I have one of these on my clutch reservoir with the passing lamps wired to the rightmost switch. It would fit on either reservoir, but I already have a tach on the brake reservoir. Because of the audio head's position I had to make a mounting plate to move it an inch or so away from the clutch reservoir. Small plate of aluminum with four holes in it - trivial. Of course, an adapter would not be needed to mount one on the brake reservoir. I've also used it to control other electrical devices, some of which have come and gone. (MP3 player, GPS, etc.)

    WHEW!!!

My car's thermometer was reading 107 on my way to work at 5pm. It was reading the temp a foot or so above the pavement on I-70. Toasty!
  23. That's terrible! It's good that you're here to tell us. Mend fast and get well soon!
  24. It's hard to slide stuff by the folks here! May you have many more!
  25. Welcome! Nice looking bike. I recommend against using the "drill a new hole" technique. Just loosen the front bolt slightly, then grab the back corner closest to the fender and push down. Do it a little at a time and just bend the back to achieve the alignment you're looking for. A shorter windshield will change the whine you hear, though it probably won't remove it completely. I find the best bet in most cases is to simply downshift. (Some Ventures have the whine so bad that the only option is the I basket, but that's often not the case.) I use the whine as an indicator that I'm running in too high a gear, since the whine only happens on mine between 2500 and 3000. These engines are happiest above 3k. If you've come to the Venture from a V-twin of some kind, you probably should take it out and bump it into the rev-limiter a few times. Won't hurt it, but it'll help you get used to how high these engines rev. Just remember, one or two rpms before it starts cutting out it's completely happy. In fact, you can get a Dyna3000 that allows you to raise the redline. (Max 7500 without a V-Max spring job.) And use second gear. Third will put you pretty close to 100 when it cuts out. Of course that can be fun too, but some of our friends in law enforcement will feel compelled to frown on that sort of thing. There is a tach you can put on the brake reservoir. There are other ways to add a tach, but this one is probably the easiest.
