side stand kill switch ??
painterman67 replied to painterman67's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
No, nothing electrical on the dash works with the side stand up.Pulling the clutch because the bike will start in gear on side stand so I was trying to keep it from moving. I noticed this on a ride to the office to pick up check The dash electronics went out so I figured I had a fuse pop out (this has happened before) . When I put the side stand down I expected the bike to shut off and it didnt and then the dash electronics came on. Side stand down everything except horn works. Side stand down nothing works in the dash but speedo.BIke in neautral and no dasd electronics work. -
Okay so when I have the bike in gear and the side stand down with clutch held in the dash electronics work. Shift into neutral and they go out. Put back in gear and dash electronics work again. Did some reading and figured to try to put in a jumper and see if the side stand switch is the problem. Most threads I found show a 2 wire system. This on seems to be 3 wire so I have no idea how to jumper it. Well I decided to try and crank it with the side stand unplugged. Cranked wright up and all symptoms are the same. My question is should it crank with switch unplugged? Beings as the local Yamaha Shop says it a discontinued part whats my next recourse.help please as Im lost.............tried selling the bike and its not moving so maybe would with a few repairs Thanks in advance David

ok so BobRSVMillenium has made me an offer I really like but this is a long ways from home . Is there anyone in or near that could go check this bike out for me. Hope this is not too taboo to have a member check out another members bike but I tend to lean on the conservative side and 16 or so hours back home on a new to me bike comcerns me as it is. Much less one I havent had a chance to check out. This trip would mean I would have to take at least 4 days off to get there and back and most of that being the ride back. Would like to be assured as much as possible. BobRSVMillenium has assured me himself its a good bike but hey I am who I am and originally I said no as money was the biggest issue but that can be arranged for the wright bike. BobRSVMillenium I hope this doesnt come off as an insult to you as it is not meant to be I am just overtly anal about things like this so if someone is willing I hope you would be willing also to have someone look at it for me. This is no less than I would do if it was someone outside of the group too . Thanks in advance David

looks just like the bunhouse in my driveway...........mine has the front room addition too. You will love this thing and it pulls well behind a truck too. Although I do get weird looks pulling it behind my Beast ( 99 silverado 2500 4x4) .

Ok what I have is a 91 vr with what I think is a ground or some sort of electrical problem. What happens is in gear with kickstand up going down the road the instrument panel does not work. At least the electrical parts dont. Stop with bike in gear and hold the clutch in and then put bike on side stand all electrical works . Through all of this the horn will not work. With bike in gear and side stand down instrument panel works until you try to use the horn then it all goes out. The horn never blows. With sidestand down and bike in gear change to nuetral and instrument panel goes out again..............any ideas as Im tired of working on this bike and considering just selling it and moving on to something different? Any help will be apreciated Thanks in advance David

ok so took it to advanced auto battery check showed 12.66 not running and 592 cca running went from 12.88-14.6 depending on revs. oki so now for the weird......decided to check the air filter to see if its clean.........filthy and tried cranking it with airbox back together without filter and no more sputtering in the drive. I dont want to go down the road and get dirt in. Going to clean the filter tomorrow (K&N and I have plenty of filter oil and no cleaner). Then let dry and try it again..........thanks for all the help........Im not sure if this is the fix but it seems to help............any other ideas and I will check them. I do love my bike and dont want to sale her just not a mechanic and Im lost and spitballing any ideas. Muffinman also suggested checking the diaphrams but that scares me so Ill let my betters check those.... again many thanks and I will follow through as best as I can on my end

well my 91 VR is sputtering bad...............it all started on a charity ride when it cut off at a light and took a while to recrank then didn't run well after that. Talked to muffinman and he said check for vacume leak around carbs with wd40. Did that and now it will idle after I found one leak. Put new fuel filter on also and it runs better but still not wright. When you go from idle to full throttle (either in gear under load or on sidestand in neutral) it will spit and sputter and eventually catch up. Less so under load in gear. help please as Im at so much of a loss I am debating just selling the old girl and save a year or 2 till I can fund something newer

ok not looking for parts Dingy already took care of the mirror i was looking for so in the spirit of things Ill throw this in. I have a homemade trailer free to good home. I cant find the title but can do a lost title if needed . This is mine and registered to me. Who ever wants it will need to come and get it. I pulled it behind my 91 vr for many a mile with no problem. Toungue is a little long for some folks but it worked on mine. Before I had the section added to stretch it the trailer would tail wag. So here goes nothing as I was the first to make an issue with this thread then I will make amens.............really just want it out of my yard. Its taking up space. the tag holder on the rear is staying with me though to be installed on my bunkhouse trailer -
dingy how much? I will keep you in mind. Muffinman says he has one for me but we havent discussed price yet. And he is coming to greensboro next month or so so I can get his then David

thats kinda like asking what oil to use. Every body has an opinion and most of the time for their personal reasons. I was told not to go with Dunlop E3's but did anyways because they were to had for a real good deal so I did. They feel really good. The tires I had before were Shinko tourmasters. Great tire if you like sticky tires. Things would hold on to ice I would bet. Stuck to the road like glue but so soft I only got 6000 mile from the rear and 10000 from the front. Still for the price I didn't complain. Kinda why I said that was a subjsective question with many many m,any answers and all have their valid points...........good luck I think I will stay with the E 3' s as I already have passed the 6000 mile range with these and they still look relatively new.

spin on filter
painterman67 replied to Rosie1965's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I have the same setup on my 91. I use the purolator and have never looked back. Cant if its any better or worse as far as filtering but it is a lot easier to change and the up side at least for my bike is an extra half quart of oil so bike seems to run a bit cooler.............seems to but that could be just me David -
Hey Beer....seen this on another forum and just had to pass it on...
