Dyna Beads - Tire Balancing
Tartan Terror replied to KeithR's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Im very familiar with those kinds of products. Dyna beads and also a product named Equal is used as an internal balancing compound. I feel it dont work very well in smaller tires but on tractor trailer ones it is a little better. Nothing beats a good high speed balance. Now the other draw back, as there is now stuff in your tire you will run into problems with the beads or powder it will clog up the valve core unless you use the special cores with the filter on it. Even at that Ive seen tires let the air out of themselves because of this stuff. Now one more factor. You cant put any sealer in the tire with it or you will just get mud and the bike will be unrideable! Not saying I endorse any internal sealer cuz I dont but what if you use it in an emergency to get the bike home and you have this junk in it? I deal with tires all day and like to try new stuff to benefit my customers but I dont use it based on what I have tired and learned. -
Suddenly my brain seems very small. I would think that would suppress combustiion. Can spraying it really break it down enough to make it its basic elements? My understanding is that it takes significant energy to break to down to make it useable as energy. More than it produces iv heard. That would make it kind of not cost effective. I better be careful with my garden hose or the pool may explode!!! LOL

I just pulled my tins off and had them polished. I also polished the lower forks by first sanding them and then using a buff wheel and rouge in different grades. Cost me about 150 to have the tins polished and they look like chrome and same with the forks. Looks great. check out my gallery.

Nitrogen filled tires
Tartan Terror replied to geresti's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
What is in the tire has no effect on the temp of a tire. Its the outside temp and the friction on the tire. Proper inflation will keep the tire right no matter what is inside. -
Nitrogen filled tires
Tartan Terror replied to geresti's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
OK a lesson on nitrogen. I own a tire business so her is the truth. Dont waste your money. Keep in mind that the air you breath is 78% nitogen. Now take this into mind, unless when they put nitogen in you tires they vaccum out the air that is in it a number of times while hooked up you will never get more than 85 to 90% nitogen in it. They do this in Nascar because it is an inert gas which means it wont expand with the heat. Keeps the setup in the car mor consistant. Now keep in mind the real factor you need to fight is the moisture. Its the water in the air that is more of the problem. You can have just as much air in the nitogen too. Nitrogen will leak just as easy as air so now if you need a little more pressure you now need to go to the dealer to get it or you ruin all the ratios. I own a dealership and I dont use it as it is just a waste of time so I dont use it in my own vehicle. Sure Ill sell if if you believe the hype. Just check you tires regularly. Ive thought of using it in my bike as it stays more consistant in outside temp changes but unless you can attach the equiptment and suck air out to a negative (you will have volume of outside air in there that must come out) and then install nitrogen to fill and mix with the volume of air left in there and then once again suck out the nitogen and not install again you wont get the 99% nitrogen that you need for it even to be effective. You dont just stick a hose on a tire and expect it to just be nitrogen. All I can say is unless you do the whole procedure its just a scam! Put a good line dryer (to remove the water) and check you tires. -
Duct tape works!!!

Actually there is a cross section of a Tire on here to show the thickness of the tread area. I deal with tires all day and the thing I have found through experience is that all tires will get flats. Ive seen flats on my customers vehicles from earrings, Stones, Clamshells, wood splinters and even a Raccoons tooth ( that was his revenge). You figure speed, angle and weight of the bike pretty much anything can get through. If it was leaking i would say the Ride-On didnt really work right but then I am no fan of Fix-a-flat type products. False sense of security. I would rather plug in an emergency but I recommend changing the tire out now. Best bet is to check your pressure often and be alert. Even at that you never know what can happen, just ask Brad and Lonna.

I know what you mean about the white of wax. I also have a Chevy Avalanche with the Claddings. (Plastic Armor). That stuff is very sensitive and dont take kindly to the paste wax. The hot setup over there is the Turtle wax Called ICE. Apparently its silicone based and is clear so if you get it on the claddings it wont get all chalky. I guess the FX is the same type of thing. By the way on that vehicle Future floor wax is the big thing on the Claddings. Dont use that on paint thought.

Dray he is looking for Car tires and not the bike. I use southwest moto for my bike tires too. Jim there is a part of the size missing. Im thinking it is a 225/70R-15. In the 60s they never made made the BFG Radial T/A. and I think back then it was a H78-15 bias. Just check the size on the car and I will get you the info that you need.

When you put it all together you will see on the discs and plates that there is two notches in the bottom of the plate and discs. They need to be lined up with the two dots in the basket. I think though that you just didnt get the funky purple thingy (Pressure plate) lined up with the splines properly. I almost did that when I put mine together( I used the PCW) but i caught it when I was tightening the bolts. here is the Tech I wrote for the PCW set up but really it goes together the same. Look at the part on the splines for the pressure plate. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=10518

Honestly I think you should come to Riverhead NY and buy them from Scottys D&E Tire Service but if you need to buy online www.tirerack.com is good. I will tell you though that I would shop local as buy the time you pay shipping and then pay to have the tires mounted any good shop shold be right at the same price. Figure about 10 per tire for shipping and about 15 for mounting (Lowball price). When all the numbers are crunched you really dont save much if any. Also if you have a problem with the tire try getting anyone local to warranty it which means now you have to get it dismounted and ship it to them. Local is the best bet.

Actually if you look at my tech on that you will see it. PCW uses a stock type spring. Not stock and not stacking it. The spring is thicker and stronger and will give you a tighter pull on the clutch lever. Actually if you look at the Star performance parts for the Roadstar you will see Yamaha does the same thing (Roadstar and Warrior as well as the Vmax is the same clutch) Barrnett uses a different plate set up. The only advantage to the Barrnet is that it looks purdy! Now worth it. Yamaha uses great discs so use the factory discs. Thats what al the racers are using. Install the extra disc to get a firmer grip. Yamaha uses the half disc inside so you get a softer engage but a light slip too. Bottom line is go with the PCW set up as the cost is better and works like its designed to. Look at my tech and you will see the parts and how it is done.

Thats not an aura. Thats Speed!! The speed he is moving on that plate was blinding!!! LOL

I agree very much with the Political stuff being left elsewhere. I belong to a Mako Boats forum and even though it is great there and filled with information they tend to get into very raw political banter and people get very upset. Even the owner of the site gets involved and posts stuff of that nature to. Very Bad. As for the Religion stuff I feel it is fine to state how you feel but as many have different feelings on this to debate religious views gets just a touchy. I am a Christian and thats part of my personality but its not my job to come on here and tell everyone that they have to be to.

I'm Formalizing The Butler Mod
Tartan Terror replied to Rick Butler's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Rick I was hoping you would put the mod together for sale. You put so much work into the research that you need to get credit. Im just sorry that your friend got hurt and that was the factor that prompted you to make this decision. Kit- I realize that now you are in the glow of the new Wing but keep in mind that constant comments saying this is the worst bike when only a short time ago this was the best bike are only gonna make people pissed. Keep in mind this is a Venture site and we happen to be here cuz we love the Venture. We really dont need to be told all the time it sucks by someone who just didnt have it fir his style. Stay and enjoy the riding and company but please stop bashing the bike I love. -
This is the kit I used to mount mine. Comes with everything to get rid of the lighter plug so you dont need to make it look crappy. Also use a splitter in the fairing to connect the aux and its very clean. http://www.tss-radio.com/professional-motorcycle-install-kit-sirpmk1-p-4430.html For installed pix go to my gallery. Mounts infront of the clutch master nice and low and neat

Pardon my insensitivity but when you ride reckless you multiply the chances of disaster. At 130 mph its only a matter of time. Its like standing on an archery range and trying to dodge an arrow. I feel sorry for the families but not for him. A few years ago we had a young man die here. He had just had a new born and then it happened. He was riding rediculously fast and coming off a traffic circle. A woman was making a left turn and at the time into a shopping center about 200 ft beyond the exit of the traffic circle. The bike ( Crotch Rocket) came off the circle in a wheelie and hit the car on the passenger door. At first everyone was calling for the woman to be punished but fact of the matter is when the woman started her turn there was no oncoming traffic. Front wheel of the bike also hit the roof of the car first. I feel the woman was at no fault. How can you avoid something that you cant see and is traveling more thatn twice the speed limit. I feel bad for the family but that guy in my opinion committed suicide!
