  1. You know Owl, that was just plain ol bad taste..I do not even have a funk n waggnals and at least we use fresh road kill...it was wolf whistling before we hit it and the doctor says I can take the bandages off in a week or two. Beisdes you keep leaving out the most important part... my wife is not a mountain man!
  2. It was neat to help you guys see Idaho's best kept secret...and with these photos we were able to see some familiar faces!!! Thanks again Rocket! Hope you and Rod continue to have a fabulous trip! Teri- the redhead of Pakidaho
  3. Ya... Sneaky is a good word for Rockets money under the key board thing...:whistling:sort of like the tooth fairy, cept no one here is missing any teeth and Rocket is not a fairy, well at least I did not see him flashing any wings. One thing for certain is that we sure enjoyed Rocket and Rods company. I did put in a Christmas order for a set of wrenches like he has to. I wonder if there is an award for a Venture Rider visiting the most Venture riders along the journey sort of thing, for certain they are adding up the miles and no doubt by the end of the journey will have spread loads of Rockets brand of good will.
  4. So...bribing with cigars...now THAT'S an idea! Erv and I could whip up some mean fish tacos, exceptional salsa and we could pass out fine, cold, barley-based beverages...but that is seen as bribery yet cash is not? Hmmmm....fish tacos and burritos it is then...oh, and the occasional Idaho Cigar...no cheating...just good business! Teri - the redhead of Pakidaho
  5. Hold on here a minute... these rules came out after we signed up... Distributing beer to potential judges and chili lovers is included in the recipe.. I guess we could call it Idaho kool aid...nothing in the rules bout that. On the other hand if there would be enough interest we could do fish tacos... we actually had a fish taco cart for a season and had allot of fun with it. We have a mind blowing salsa that we do with the tacos and anyone who has had them will tell you they are fantastic and they go with chili and beer very well... just say'n!
  6. Well Teri n I are not afraid to cook CHILI... spelled correctly? See they evun have schools in Idaho and they even teach us when we kin come but sumtimes we gotta pick them spuds in them there mountains insted of goin to them schools they have. We don't have much room in the trailer for chili fix'n supplies, pots and such so if'n you have them there we will most certainly enjoy an opportunity to build our brand of CHILI.
  7. Well Rocket (Paul) and Grump (Rod) were able to get off this morning. I find myself thankful that they did have an extended stay and in that I must thank the crappy weather. I would match Grump's story telling against any comer... the guy can talk! Rocket has his hands full. Rocket is saying he wants this to be a trip of a life time and I hope he finds plenty of joy and has more than his expectations filled. It is a honor to be among his friends, and I am certainly going to miss his company and am so grateful that he found time to stop in and shower us with his presence. I believe they will try to make it to Bozeman Montana today.
  8. We seem to have a couple of extra Canadians hanging around. Wonder if there is any connection? Seems like they are happy with food, homebrew, and the neighbor lady Rod has taken a fancy to... We just didn't feel right sending them off riding into the snowstorm, so we subdued them with beer and company. Worked so far. We like them, they are polite, and don't seem to require any type of tasering or other control devices. On the whole they are well behaved. Oh wait...there is the whole Rod and the neighbor lady exception... Teri, the redheaded part of Pakidaho
  9. Sounds like they had a chat with the Sheriff from Hamilton... must of been a long one. Sure is a relief to know he is ok fine, not sure if they are coming over the pass tonight because of possible snow on the highway. Took a look on the highway camera, road appears wet but not snow covered.
  10. Spoke with him on the phone this morning bout 8:00 a.m. he said he was in Post Falls Idaho and heading to Salmon today. He said he needed to get a prepaid phone card and would try to call from Missoula Montana. I figure it should be about four hours from Post Falls to Missoula...conservative speed, then three hours from Missoula to Salmon. It is now nearly 6p.m. here in Salmon and we have not heard a word from him. His tracker says he has not left Post Falls... needless to say we are a bit concerned. If you have heard from Rocket, please give us a shout. Thanks, Erv
  11. Idaho home grown, Burly and Havana mix for filler. Nothing like growing and rolling your own. My favorite store bought was Aurto Fuente Exquisito maduro but having grown my own for several years I find I prefer those to any store bought. If by chance you find yourself interested in rolling your own I have a friend in PA that sells leaf for 6.50 a pound...enough for 25 to 75 cigars depending on how large you like em.
  12. Appreciate your sharing, your Dad will always be there with you. Many of my best conversations have been with my Mom during and after she passed, after forty years I still enjoy that moment of sitting and sharing the moment with her.
  13. Russ, Erv and I drink Hyson Green tea from CoffeeAM.com. Sometimes we may drink some Sencha. I like Rooibos, or Red Tea, as well as a variance of herbal teas. My favorite is Sweet Dreams in the bag, Red Tea in the press as well as Hyson. Also, have you tried Chai? There are some nice bulk blends of Chai. Take care sweetie! Teri and Erv
  14. As many folks of this forum have stated, there is no easy/pat answer for this. Having been through something similar as well as being a counselor and having a degree in Legal Studies, there are a few things I would like to point out. I agree with Condor...push your attorney to look at the issue of smoking. If the mother and boyfriend are smoking in the house and in the car, see if there are any statutes or case law in your state that would at least put a stop to this behavior. Age of the children has a lot to do with this next pointer. Ask them to write letters to the judge stating what they want. Give them a stamp and an envelope, address that envelope, but DON"T read the letter...have them mail it on their own. Go to the school, contact the principal and the teachers. Let them know you intend to be an involved parent, not just a visitor, in your children's lives. Keep track and document all incidents of concern, as well as your response to those incidents. Never make your child feel as if they need your permission to love the other parent. Badmouthing will hurt you in the end, so try to support the mother's rules as best you can. Do not ask children to deal with adult circumstances. Depending on their ages, they may have a legal say in where they go. You may also want to arrange for a therapist for them, but allow the therapist to meet with the kids without your influence. This can be scary, but it can equate to a soft place to land without fear of retribution, punishment, or abandonment for the kids. I know my children say that was one of the best things I could have done for them during the difficult times they experienced. Last but not least, keep your integrity. Answer your son with an honest "I don't know why these bad things happen, but please believe I love you." Comfort him and reassure him you will continue to fight for his right to be in a nurturing, loving, healthy home. Then do just that. It is also possible to get an attorney for the kids...through the local Legal Aid office. Try a CASA volunteer...they are trained to look at these situations. Call your local courthouse for info on CASA. In the long run, you being consistent, non-condemning, and loving will resonate more than anything else. Love your children through this, as they will grow to appreciate it. This experience will shape their lives, so make sure they learn integrity, honesty, and standing up for what is right will get them where they want to go by your example. Good luck and God Bless! 15. Happy birthday!!!! We love you Rocket! Can't wait to see you this coming summer!!!!! Erv and Teri
  16. Saw this video figured it is well worth sharing considering what day this is. http://unclejayexplains.com/2010/09/19/uncle-jay-explains-sept-20-2010/
  17. Teri and I have been here summarizing our rides during this season. Just returned from south Utah where we had the fortune of visiting our folks (her in-laws). We went down through Evanston Wyoming found some very scenic highways to travel.. Utah state highway 150 was delightful, technical and worthy of another ride. Highway 72 was also very nice...great ride. Riding through Salt Lake City on the other hand is not fun not scenic and makes my knuckles white. Pretty much every place we camped this season BC to south Utah we met folks either giving us firewood, Salmon cooked on Ceder boards, fresh fantastic stew, shared their fires with us, great conversation...friendly sharing what they have with out any asking. People just seem to go out of their way to be generous and kind. We both agree we are seeing a change..or maybe we are both finally open to it and we realize how profound the effects this sort of kindness has on us. We have always enjoyed sharing what we have with folks yet have been reluctant to be open to accepting what others would share with us. We realize we have more often than not avoided that opportunity for others to share with us. We have found that Venture Riders exemplify a giving sharing attitude and through our travels we have been very proud to be Venture Riders and demonstrate the core philosophy that we believe Venture Riders values. Our experience has made us both more determined than ever to go out of our way to perform random acts of kindness, as well as accept them. Would be nice to hear of some of those sharing stories others here have experienced. Teri n Erv
  18. Maybe we will remember where we put the camera n get some photos... Thanks we are looking forward to getting outta here.... We both realized yesterday that She who had hair of Red picked Friday the 13th to go...hummmm Good thing we are not superstitious... or are we!
  19. We hit Glacier pretty hard last year went over the Sun road... was so crowded that it was like one of those rides at a fun park where you wait two hours in line for a three minute ride.... certainly a ride worth taking though and the park is amazing...wish we would have had kayaks though.
  20. So little time so much to see!!! We hope you get to make it back to North Idaho as well and while your at it stop n see us near Salmon, we'll keep the lights on.
  21. Hey thanks very much appreciated. We will be checking Kimberley out on de map and hopefully make time to get there. We brew our own beer and like making visits to brewery's... yep nutin like a free beer.
  22. Thanks we will look at that. We enjoy that ride through Craters of the Moon... long and open with some fine desert scenery.
  23. Hello everyone...Erv and I are planning our North-bound vacation. We got tired of waiting for folks to stop by our place during their jaunts via Highway 93, so we shall strike out in search of adventure. We hope to leave the 13th (Friday) from home along Highway 93 between Challis and Salmon, Idaho and camp over at Wayfarer's State Park near Flathead Lake, Montana. We hope to cross the border at Roosville and on to Radium Hot Springs for Saturday and Sunday night. Saturday we are planning a day trip from Radium to Lake Louise, Golden, and back to Radium. Day 4 would see us going South from Radium to Cranbrook and on to Creston. We would stay the night in Creston, and on the advice of Rocket, would tour the brewery there. Day five would be a ride from Creston to Osoyoos, Day six would be Osoyoos to Couer de Alene, Idaho. Day seven would see us making it to Banks, and then day 8 would have us coming home from Banks. We have pondered the idea of going from Golden to Revelstoke on day 3 and on to Creston via Castelgar, but looking at the route we would take lets us think we may lose our one day buffer, as we only have ten days for this adventure. We invite input on our proposed routes and destinations, and if you are anywhere near where we are going, let us know so we can meet up and visit. Thanks, peace out, stay warm (LOL) and hope to see some feedback. Erv and Teri
  24. My wife was having tire envy over my new E3 tires. They transformed my ride to a whole new level. Handle well on wet roads, corner sweet...SWEET! My only regret is that I did not get them a couple years earlier. They have boosted my confidence in my bikes ability. Now we shall see how many miles I get before having to replace them... no doubt many more than the Bridgestone Ecedra tires I have ran in the past.
